Scrapbooking With Journaling Pizzazz: Dear Little E

It's been a tough start to the summer for Little E, that adventurous rascal of a nephew of mine. But he finally has some good news: with the cast off his poor foot he'll be able to swim just as soon as he hits his holidays. I've been sending hims cards and books to try to cheer him up

And as I wrote, I couldn't help but shake my head. It's only a few weeks since I was making a page which included a little to the very same Little E, before there was any sign of a broken foot

From High in the Sky: journaling pizzazz for Get It Scrapped

Get It Scrapped had asked me for a layout with some journaling pizzazz (good word, that. I might say it again. Pizzazz). Mmm I thought: a different way of writing; and I remembered the story Granny tells of the picture letters her father used to send home when he was working away.

Now, I'm no artist. But I didn't think Little E would mind so I came up with this one. It's meant to be read aloud, so I gave it a rhythm and it goes like this:

Dear Little E,
Come back to the museum with me!
Will we see a TREE? Not inside!
But we might Find a BEE or a FLY or a FEATHER , whatever the weather.
Or a SHELL? That'd be swell.
So don't be a SNAIL when you get this mail
Let me know. Then we'll go.
The picture, of course, is of one of our other museum trips and I found a piece of brick paper by Simple Stories to pick up the house in the photo and to give me somewhere to scrawl.

pizzazz is such a glorious word - and saying it aloud creates a smile. I used to send letters like that to my nephews when they were young and really enjoyed creating them - great Lo and good to hear Little E is on the mend

This reminds me of the letters I used to do for my little step grand girls 20 odd years ago when they were wee. They loved them!! And that brick paper? GORGEOUS.....the writing sort of reminds me of graffiti....but of COURSE you would NOT be doing that!!!

Oh, Sian, this is so clever! Love it all, it's SO great! (I've just been writing these 'picture letters' with I: she's so interested in learning to start to read, it's been a great exercise for her, and she's been so excited that she's 'reading'.....).....so glad to hear his pot's off now - thank goodness! Hoping you make it to the Museum.....Helen xx P.S. "Pizzazz" (I couldn't resist, either: it *is* such a great word!)...

Pizzazz is a great word, seldom heard these days. Maybe you will start a revival! Love the brick paper, and the picture writing. I remember those... I used to love working them out. I remember sometimes a letter of the alphabet would be crossed out to give a clue too. Now I'm rhyming!

This is one stunner of a page, Sian, on lots of fronts: design (Yep, I always notice the shapes first!), journalling (you are a great wordsmith!) and sheer general oomph. Which I guess if another word for pizzazz. (Though not quite a pizzazz-y!).
