Scrapbooking With Text

This page was supposed to be about Shirley Temple. That's how it began. Instead, it features Schwarzenegger. But I guess that's how it goes in Hollywood.

from High in the Sky: scrapbooking text for Get It Scrapped

When The (Not So) Small One was a very little girl she had a bit of a thing for Shirley. Maybe it was the ringlets, or the little smocked dresses; but I think it was the button up, round toed shoes, which she learned to call Mary Janes, because she begged for a red pair for her birthday. So she was sad, of course, a few weeks back, when she heard that Shirley had gone; and we got to talking about our trip to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, when we once visited Uncle Dave in LA.

It's over ten years since we were there, when The (Not So) Small One was still singin' Shirley and there was only one star we wanted to see. We set out late one lazy LA afternoon, when the Californian sunshine was a dusty gold over the scuffed up glamour, and the stars stretched along the side walk and called out for us to pose.

That was the picture i had in my head when Get It Scrapped asked me to play around with adding text to a page and I thought of stars and the shape and the names, and I went looking for the photos. Turned out I didn't have the photo I had imagined, of Shirley and her small starstruck acolyte. I had shadows and poor snaps. But I did find Arnie, so he became the page instead. I wanted a peeling paint kind of look: soft thirties colours, glittery, but not so glitzy, the old and the new, the extravagant mixed with the inexpensive. Just the way I remembered it.

The star I made using Tagxedo. It was an easy way to add text to the page. but I'm no expert. For the best tips you need to head to my blogging friend Jemma's excellent Tagxedo posts. She'll really tell you how it works. Love the toned down glitz of your page and the way you anchored that star! Great story to tell on a page.

Fab page - great use of Tagxedo (thanks for the shout-out too - very kind).
Funny how the photos we think we have aren't always real.

I like the matted look to that star and well done on following Jemma's instructions so successfully. Fun use of text as a design element.

A very cool page for a super story...
"We set out late one lazy LA afternoon, when the Californian sunshine was a dusty gold over the scuffed up glamour, and the stars stretched along the sidewalk and called out for us to pose"... beautifully written.

Your Tagxedo star is wonderful, and I love how you were able to move from one story to the next, ending up with another fab layout!

Lovely story, lovely page :)

Can I just say, I really admire how you can scrap to a brief - to create something meaningful and beautiful from a request is just wonderful! I only say this as when I try challenges etc I find I can scrap everything else BUT what the challenge is!

I love the idea of you and the (not so) small one reminiscing about Shirley Temple. I had a pair of red, cloth Mary Jane's as a kid which I loved.

Another gorgeous story. Another gorgeous page. I always come away from these posts with a smile on my face - after a stressy morning, much needed. Thanks Sian x

Funny, how we start out with one idea and it evolves as we go along, sometimes into something very different. Great idea, to use Tagxedo as a page element that way.

What a lovely story and a great layout! Amazing how Shirley turned into Arnold! And isn't it funny how many new movies he's in these day with lots of the other older movie stars - it's like they've all come out of retirement now that one (or more) of them own their own studio! LOL

I loved your description of the scuffed up glamour - you write so evocatively. Love your use of the star too.

The photo may not have been the one you remembered or wanted, but I like how you merged the story of the page with your daughter's Shirley Temple enthusiasm.

It's good how one story leads to another. My BIL really did look like Shirley Temple when he was young. big blonde curls lol!
