What Makes Her

Happy Mother's Day!

I hope it's a good one for you. I spent yesterday with my Mum (and Little E and his Mum) and we all had a great time. I love to see The (Not So) Small One with her Aunt and her Grannie: they're alike in so many ways. Two year ago (wow, really?) I made a layout called What Makes Me My Mum about the ways in which I thought I was turning into my own Mother; and this week I thought it might be time for a new one.

journaling in a circle by Sian from From High in the Sky

The original had stitched circles to hold my journaling and I wanted to echo that, but change it a little at the same time, with circles cut from tracing paper (yes, I left the pencil lines on purpose, for a bit of roughed up definition) and machine stitched in place. The end result looks like this:

and now it's finished I'm thinking maybe a couple of masculine versions should be next....

Gorgeous layout, Sian :) And I hope we get to see the masculine versions when you've done them!

PS Hope you've had a lovely Mother's Day x

The background paper is from Fancy Pants "The Good Life" and I got it in a kit from Citrus Twist..

..and that's not my Mum! It's TSO with her hair tied back

I love the journaling in circles stitched in place like this - and the crackled look is great with the brick background. Looking forward to the father and son versions too …

That's a great layout and I love that you left the pencil lines on there.

What a good idea! And a fabulous layout, I might add. I'm off to see my daughter later this week. I think I'll engage her in a conversation about this.

Ooh Sian! Isn't it awful when you start saying the same things your mum used to say ? Especially when it was all thd things you hated hearing:))) Lovely, lovely page:)

Beautiful - the Not So Small One is definitely not so small here!

I presumed you left the pencil lines and enjoyed that you did and then spotted your comment which made me smile :) Really like the layers and the sewing everything down so it doesn't float away. Such a fun idea and won't the full set be a treasure.

What a great idea for a subject and a gorgeous photo to play with! I love the typed journaling on the circles and all the other little details!

Great idea for a layout! Hubby keeps pointing out things that make the kids like me already! Love the peeling paint background, and how you deliberately left the pencil lines on the circles, it makes the layout very grungy-cool! x

What a gorgeous layout.
And, as I've said before, "sooner or later, we all quote our mothers."
