Dashing Through the Snow

Dashing through the snow?

We don't, though. Snow slows and, if we're lucky. it lets us be quiet and think. No snow at all here yet this year, not even a hint of a sprinkling. But I found this photo on my desk when I was doing a big New Year clear up; and I decided to put it with all the other bits and pieces I discovered. That little cut out girl has been waiting for a home for about eighteen months, now I think she fits here because she looks like an illustration from a book published round about the times the houses in the photo were built. That's the view from my bedroom window this time two years ago.

Papers from I Lowe Scrap. Alpha stickers from Studio Calico. Journaling on a pull-out card. And a roughly tied blue bow which I thought echoed the dressing gown chord, but now think looks like a dodgy knot...

It was this time five years ago that I bought my very first scrapbooking supplies. I can remember the excitement so well. The girls in  the Craft Shop here were packing away unsold Christmas kits as I rifled through the tiny corner shelf stacked with paper and glue. Almost everything I chose that day I still have; because, of course, it turned out to be not what I really needed at all. But we've all done that, I guess. It was a thrill then, and it's still a thrill today. Every time I pick up a pair of scissors and cut.

For 2013 I have a few crafting plans:

- I'm going to make cards with Nat's 52 cards Challenge I discovered on UKScrappers

- I'm going to sew more dolls clothes with the help of the two new books I got for Christmas

- I'm thinking about some kind of new swap to organise

- I've got some great guests coming up on So This is Scrapbooking

- and we're starting it all off with the first edition of Storytelling Sunday this weekend. All the details  for Year Three Pick Your Precious are here. See you then?

Before I go today, I'm in organised and together mood at the minute, so, while I remember, I'd love to ask -
- anyone who has a So This is Scrapbooking post in the works: ready to go? or need a bit more time? And, while we're here - any new prospective guests out there, now that you've seen a few posts go out?

Oh my goodness, she needs some footwear, not to mention some warm clothes! Wonderfully chosen colours to go with that photo ... I do admire your layering style :). Looking forward to all this lovely scrapbooking inspiration for another year.

like the idea of a swap of some kind (any kind really)

although I dislike being out in snow I do miss lookin out over a white world (growing up in Aberdeen we had snow every winter)

Its so true - i have some really vintage stash that I never use but can't seem to part with. Like a whole carousel of shaped scissors - I could never cut straight with them! Great vintage layout too!

I too have some stash bought when I first started scrapbooking and still have.....will I ever use it?
Love the idea of some kind of swop....maybe we could start with swapping our weather with some from the southern hemisphere!!!!
A gorgeous page,Sian....love the dash of blue.

I love your vintage look and subtle colours. It's amazing to think you have only been scrapbooking for 5 years, your distinct style is so strong.
I like the idea of a swap. Was thinking along the same lines myself.
I am at a crop next week and we are having bring 'n buy and freecycle tables. A chance to part with some of the stash I don't use. I know I will replace it but hopefully with things I will use!

I could loan you some snow---lots of it. Last year, almost none. This year, lots already. I love the monochrome colors on this layout and the title!

Great page. Sweet and chilly at the same time. We've had about 8 inches of the white stuff here already - but well-timed so as not to cause much fuss. I'll have to go check out that challenge on UKS, it might dovetail nicely with a "plan" I have for '13, if it is not meant to be Christmas cards only. See you Sunday.

I like the tied together look of that bow and that little girl is sweet - glad she found a home. Pretty snow - none around here thankfully.

Goals for this year - on my list for this afternoon :)

Very pretty layout Sian. Love the subtle tomes you have used. Ohh, we have had snow this winter already, nice to look at for a day but rotten to trek in or clear when it freezes/goes slushy.

A lovely LO as always Sian! The little cut-out girl was perfect for this theme & I love that 'Baby it's cold outside'font & your perfect title work too! Is it really only five years since you started scrapbooking? Doesn't time fly!!! I'm intrigued by what sort of swap you might devise...whatever it is I'm sure it'll be good!! :D

I love your page. I also have things I bought when I first started scrapping 9 years ago, I use them as a reminder to ask myself "do I need it, will I use it" when I'm shopping now...of course the answer is always YES! :D

lovely layout as always, big fan of the subtle colors! (and of I lowe scrap, but they're always sold out!). i'm starting to miss the snow here, we had like 20cm the day i left Canada and all we have in Paris is rain...

Lovely layout Sian. I have a load of stash from when I started and in fact over Christmas I went through ALL my stash and I have a huge box full of stuff which I know I am never going to use. I have found a lady on UKScrappers who would like it for charity use, so it is being parcelled up and sent to her this weekend. I now feel lighter and in the right frame of mind to start the new year with papers I WANT to scrap with, not that I HAVE to scrap with because I bought it when I first started!

your seasonal layout is full of winter wonderfulness! i love that cute little girl - cold weather isn't going to get her down. :-)

i am planning my storybook sunday post today and can't wait to see what everyone else comes up with...

That cut out girl was perfect for this layout. We had snow had Christmas, and it did allow for several days indoors, reading, relaxing, thinking.

I'm all set for Storytelling Sunday!

pretty! Love the touches of blue.

Thanks for the link to the 52 card challenge - that is one I have been wanting/thinking of doing for a year or two now and I like what you get from it!

BTW - I looked back at your original post about the 3rd year of STS and see all stories are welcomed :)

Gorgeous layout! The die cut layering looks so pretty and perfect. I love the ILS PPs, do you get them from a uk stockist? I have seen the new lines due out in spring and I MUST have them, especially the stamps ;)

Hi Sian! Thanks for replying, shall be stalking Sodalicious daily until 'divine this line' is in stock and they have restocks of some other rather beautiful products that caught my eye ;)

It is a lovely monochromatic page Sian. I really like the different textures and the pops of blue. I loved reading your crafty plans for the new year! I can't wait to see them unfold here ;)

What a great layout Sian. Where do you get all these vintage cutouts? This is absolutely perfect for the layout.
I've got so much old stuff (and I don't mean vintage) I don't know what I'll ever do with it. :)
