It's probably a sign, isn't it? When my computer crashes a few days before Christmas? Means I should be busy doing other festive things instead. But it is good to be back! Oh yes it is. More than a couple of days without any internet is a strange experience now..
But at least I did have some time to get Christmassy, with all those little things -
it wouldn't be Christmas without:
- The sweet smell of sticky mincemeat bubbling out of the pies and onto the baking sheet.
- The anticipation of a Christmas Eve trip To Little E's. That's always fun:
- The relentless "let's play board games" from The (Not So) Small One, who takes her Christmas "family togetherness" very seriously. Monopoly is her top choice and beating her mother, who is supposed to know a thing or two about property, is a point of honour. Funny, when I suggest she might like to try her hand at a bit of actual property management - like weeding - her enthusiasm disappears.
- The queue at the Post Office; and that feeling, when you walk away, that maybe a few more stamps would have been better. And thinking that I'm yet another year on from those times when I held a toddler up to the letterbox to let him post the cards one at a time.
- That other constant question: "Has Uncle Dave booked his flight home yet?" He better get a move on, because I'm not sure now much more I can take..
- Increased texting activity between The (Not So) Small One and my sister. That's a lot of gift hinting.
- The guess what gift item Little E will appear on this year competition. Last year's tins were pretty cool.
- Saying "I should have bought it when I saw it" at least once.
- and finally, for the first time since last January, being able to see down the stairs which are now now lit up with fairy lights. Let there be light. And internet.
Some scribbly crayon made from twine and a little car to take us to Little E |
Before I head off to do a bit of catching up I'd like to thank everyone who left a comment for Vicki on her So This is Scrapbooking post. There is still time to enter her giveaway and I'll announce the winner on Wednesday.

I love your list! (and smiled especially at the comment on weeding). Glad you're feeling connected again :). Your page is very cheering with those bright colours and I love twisty road and little car. Colouring - sigh! Such a calm and reflective alternative to the competitiveness of board games. Is there a colouring book and a set on pencils in her stocking?
Welcome back to blogland! :) I'm glad to hear that your stairs are well-lit at the moment - please keep them that way.... (I'm becoming a stair-safety bore!) Love your layout, but that goes without saying :)
PS Thank you for our lovely card xx
Such a fun post to read! Glad your internet is up and running again. Yes, we are so dependant on it. ;) Colouring with Little E. sounds like fun. The little ones always make Christmas special. Yes, I had forgotten about those days of lifting toddlers up so they could drop the letters into the mailbox. So many years ago for me.
It's funny how having no internet makes you feel...who'd have thought it!
A lovely snapshot of your family life and Christmas, and of course a super layout x
I know how you feel having had a virus last month and having to take my laptop to the pc doctor - twice. Love how you are getting Little E into cutting and sticking!
Love your page (as always) and love your words most of all (as always). Thank you so much for your wonderful card, which reminded me of why I miss blogging already! Blessings of the season to you! xx
Glad to see you back Sian! You have me thinking now - there are several things that happen around here too that just sing Christmas for us ... I might have to make a list too!
LOL - love these snippets of your family life. Super page!
Sounds like the not so small one is a girl after my heart. She would fit right in with our game playing family. I enjoyed this post of a little of this and that!
Our kids aren't off until the end of the week, which is way too close to Christmas for me. I haven't thought nearly enough about gifting (giving and receiving).

Lovely post, love the thought of your toddlers posting the cards. I hope you have a smoother week after illness and internet problems you deserve one.
Princess isn't off school yet either (she said to tell you that wan and mother's dosing doesn't work once you are 18... I still force vegetables and fruit tho'), colouring and sticking are very appropriate. Board games haven't happened yet, we've only just managed Christmas movies, games will happen next week when we're all off. Munchkin has been fun but I still prefer Settlers.
Property Maintenance - ask NSSO if she'd like to come deal with leaking floors and drains 'cause that's on my to do list today... ;)
Glad to hear you're back with us. It seems totally weird now not to a little bit of daily internet doesn't it? Don't know what I'm going to do while we're away. :) I liked reading your list of Christmas time at your house.
colouring in sounds a fine christmas eve tradition. Our game of chocie is creationary - like pictionary with lego
Christmas 24 channel for when the lurgy strikes and forces you onto the sofa. Shrieking loudly, well as loudly as possible with no voice, when the computer does the 'blue screen of death' and sits looking smug. The happy dance down the hall when you open a delightful card from someone who has become very dear to your heart. I have to write on my blog about this.
Love your list! It wouldn't be Christmas without me still scrambling at the last minute to finish something! (This time it is Christmas cards which haven't gone out yet!)
Sounds like the perfect Christmas! And variations of the questions asked here as well.
I would LOVE the smell of mince pies - however not sure how to get them. (Maybe my sister will sneak a few back for me? - another thing to the list(s))
Great layout - love the use of twine!
Great list - I think it wouldn't be Christmas without thinking a dozen times at least - I should have started much earlier!!
Having just spent a couple of hours with my for year old niece yesterday, I can appreciate how much you are looking forward to spending time with little E...love the LO!
Alison xx
Welcome back Sian, It is hard to imagine that there was a time that we didn't have t'inernet . I love this page, especially the bakers twine and the little car and the stamping and the sewing and the .......It's all gorgeous
'I wish I bought it when I saw it' is a frequent cry here.....and it wouldn't be christmas without the scent of M&S spiced candles, the sound of christmas songs and the taste of semolina biscuits.....all of which distract me from how much I hate wrapping a zillion gifts!!
such a wonderful peek into your life as the days toward christmas decrease.
Having no internet always sucks! We have been having some relentless board games going on here too, unless I can talk them into the card game versions. Those at least go a bit faster.
Just thinking of no internet makes me twitch! Lovely page, enjoy those board games while you can! Those were some fun times.
What a lovely list of your Christmas planning, Sian. Enjoy the season! xo
A great list and I love the comment about the light on the stairs!
Nope, it most definitely wouldn't be Christmas without Monopoly! When we unpacked the boardgames we decided to count the Monopoly boards ... 29 of them!!! All different. I can't begin to imagine a Christmas without at least one board under the tree. This year there was just the one ... the boys gave The Princess Monopoly Millionaire.
I didn't manage to make any mince pies this year, but we did play monopoly! I love games at Christmas. My daughter got lots for presents so the game playing will continue year round I'm sure! x
