It's Thursday..

..and I'm Thinking Out Loud again with

a snapshot of now

- Is there anything more deflating to a scrapbooker than a flat camera battery? Happened to me five minutes ago

- Can you believe the CHA sneaks are starting again? I've seen new Halloween papers already. And good stuff from Lilybee and Jillibean Soup

- We're dusting off the Mediterranean Chip Topped Pie recipe this week for what Nigella might call a kitchen supper, but  here we know as having friends round for tea.

- Thinking about a blog redesign. I've had this look for almost two years!

- I've got something planned for you From High in the Sky and it's coming soon. I hope you enjoy it!

- My thought to get you thinking for today: replying to emails. I've been business emailing (NOT scrapbooking related!) more than usual this week. Some people reply promptly; but when someone doesn't, it can be frustrating. But then I remember that some days I'm alert and ready to work out what I want to say. Other days it takes me a bit longer. Maybe we're all the same?

Don't forget - Storytelling Sunday this coming weekend! ETA: the excellent Sandi has reminded me that I didn't offer any suggestion of a theme for July. I have one for you - unusual souvenirs! As we head into the summer, let's think about things we bring back..

..(though, of course, as always you are also welcome to write on anything that takes your fancy!)

I'm an email girl. Phone me and I probably won't answer unless I am at work (then I have to answer), but email me and if I am awake I will usually respond pretty promptly. I have no idea how I would survive day to day without my iPhone as it is my constant email portal. As a kid I wasn't ever a 'phone' person but I used to write letters ... I treat emails as the 'new letter'. However, for business emails I am short and to the point so a reply is usually quick to write. I don't 'do' the frills unless I know the recipient would get offended if I left them off. :-) I expect mixed reactions to this one LOL

Ooh looking forward to what's coming soon :)

I was having a conversation about emails the other day and how terrible I am at replying. If I get an email to my iPhone I read it straight away but prefer to respond when I'm at a proper keyboard, the only trouble is at the end of the day my old mind has forgotten the email, I don't go on to the computer and don't reply as quickly as I should.

I'm the same as Jo - love reading emails on my phone but much prefer to respond at a proper keyboard. Someone once said that there is no such thing as an urgent email; if you want a prompt reply - pick up the phone!
I've loved catching up on the blog posts I have missed this week especially the one about Rinda's visit. If I lived local, I'd be camped out in your kitchen quizzing you on all kinds of Rinda trivia over a cup of tea! I have just printed off this year's scavenger list and as soon as I am allowed out, I will be on a mission. Already I think I know where I may be able to find a clothesline ;-)

It's funny, I don't even know when CHA is anymore .. now that I am completely digi I don't seem to notice when papers and products are released.

Email is a funny beast ... those changes all sounds rather interesting!

I'm definitely like Jo and Deb and I'm so far behind on answering emails right now. As for the camera - think the only thing worse is taking a wad of pictures and then realizing there is no card in the camera - happened to us last year - a whole day in Halifax (the Canadian one) gone - poof!

My camera uses AA batteries - they still go flat, but are at least easy to replace if I'm in or out and about!

I often reply to emails right away because, otherwise, if they fall off the first page, they get lost! Although I do try to review all my emails once a week or so to see if there's any I missed.
Henry and I were just discussing this recipe last night (as the chips he was eating resembled these). We may try it when we get home.

I read and answer emails on my puter, they would fall out of my mind if I read them on my phone. I haven't decided which story to tell on Sunday. Writing that gave me a panic attack because I looked at where my list stands and it wasn't there! Found it now....let me see....

Another interesting and thought provoking list.
*I have observed a lot of blogs have been given a make-over recently. Just when I have mastered the how to do it of my old fashioned one!
*With all the new technology, email seems to be the new snail mail.
*Thanks for the reminder about SS. It's always a good read.

I only read email on my computer and almost always reply immediately. I also find it frustrating when folks wait several days, as I'm not always sure they got it, and I don't want to be a pest. Although I love my phone, I just don't use it for email. My blog hasn't had a new header in a LONG time. I can do it, but it takes so long to remember how that I just let it go.

I love this layout!

I TRY to answer my email as soon as I open it. Open, answer, delete. I TRY to keep my "inbox" to one page (rarely possible). But when i get an email that invites a conversation - that requires more than a one or two line reply, I'll often save it to come back to later when I have more time to write a proper response. Sometimes that means it takes a day or two. I don't like when I do that but my choice is a quick response that doesn't give the email the attention it really deserves, or a delayed response that allows me to be fully in the moment and attentive to the intended recipient. Which would you rather receive???

Business related - definitely a fast reply. I have outstanding business at the minute I can't take care of until I get answers to questions

Personal - a long leisurely reply is always welcome!

a new look blog...i only want to change the top photo on mine and have given up trying to work out how to do it again!!

Emails, i try to answer when i read them otherwise i forget to reply. it is a nuisance when businesses take forever to respond...hope you get some answers soon.

STS - mine is scheduled and ready to go!!

I reply to emails right away---especially in reference to an invitation. There's nothing more frustrating than not knowing whether people are coming or not---but this has been a problem long before email!

Thx for the recipe share!

Oh my goodness, what a tease you are, alluding to something new coming on your blog & leaving us all in suspense! I can't believe it's almost Storytelling Sunday - where did June go?

scrappyjacky said...

I tend to answer emails fairly quickly....to save me totally forgetting....and emails are the first thing I check on the computer....but that's because I get work related emails.
Must admit....if something's urgent.....I pick up the phone.
Looking forward to whatever you have 'planned' for us!

I like the CHA sneaks, but am not ready to see anything Christmas just now! I give myself up to 24 hours to reply to an email. I figure if someone wanted an immediate response, they would phone or text me.

your daughter is so photogenic! i was in hobby lobby yesterday and they are already putting out christmas stuff!! awwww! how can i feel behind when it's only june?

I do love your current blog design but can't wait to see what you come up with. I am thinking of the same but I need to fins something I truly love and can live with a long time since I try to "brand" the blog, business, etsy and FB. Can't believe I have my story ready and waiting!

I'm looking forward to whatever it is you have up your sleeve!

I try to reply to business emails asap but in order of priority, then by date. But personal ones, and text messages can be a bit hit and miss at the mo as it's not always easy to find a quiet moment with a little one around requiring entertaining!

I think as we live in an age where we want 'instant'' we do get a bit frustrated when we don't get a reply. I am pretty good at replying to personal ones but as you say sometimes you want to think about those for a bit longer.

........and yes, nearly as bad - finding out that your printer has run out cof ink and being stranded at home as you are recovering from a knee op ;-)

I'm hopeless with emails on my phone...much rather reply on my laptop which means it has to wait until I have time to log on properly!! I'm much more efficient with text messaging!!

Can't wait to see what you have in store for us & as for Storytelling Sunday...is there a theme for July?

Oh, I just love this layout, Sian! I have been "thinking" about that cookbook I started putting together after the potluck that still needs to be finished. ~sigh~

On emails, some times I'm good at keeping up, some times not so good. With work emails I tend to be very prompt, but sometimes my personal ones get put off until I feel like I have time to type out a proper reply.

Looking forward to seeing what you have instore for us!

I tend to respond to emails quite quickly, and can't resist checking out a new arrival when it pings. Trouble is I end up being diverted and doing ten things at once... but then what's new? Love the page, and looking forward to finding out what you have in store. My blog design is in need of looking at too....

Sandi - Good point, we need a theme! Yes, I have one for you - how about "unusual souvenirs" as we come into the summer?

I think like a lot of people have said - with 'official' emails I try and reply as soon as I get them. I know Craig who as you know is self employed, grumbles a lot about people not believing in 9-5 office hours when dealing with him but he's STILL out there returning emails at gone midnight regardless. Even on holiday,he checks every day and replies even when he's set up "the business is closed, emails will be dealt with on such & such a date" auto response things - he can't help himself - he still checks and replies. He's even gone out and sourced stock, wrapped it and sent it while we were away on holiday but people don't appreciate it. Anyway... I digress.. Official =- reply as soon as possible. Personal - reply at leisure so you can havve a nice long waffle - this usually means I might take a couple of days to reply to those though :)

Wow - it doesn't feel like a couple of years since you were unveiling your new look! Can't believe in some ways that I've "known" you that long and in others feels like I've been visiting a lot longer :D

Great thoughts Sian.

Depends on the e-mail, some only need a quick answer back, others I need to consider first!

Can't wait to see what's in store for the blog.

And just to say i have the wedge topped pie baking in the oven as I type, it's not as neat as the small one's but it looks like it will be yummy!

I think you are among several blogs I follow that are doing a bit of rethinking lately. I wonder if the halfway mark of the year is making us all stop and take stock. I am torn between finding out what new and interesting things I could do to jazz up my blog (I've seen a couple interesting examples lately), or whether I want to keep it simple and totally focus on telling stories on paper and in print. You do a good job of keeping your blog pretty focused - I sometimes wish I wasn't so easily distracted to try other things. Speaking of which, I can't wait to see what you have coming next.

Nowadays, I get more Facebook messages than e-mails. No business related ones(yet ;) ).
Looking forward to the new project!
