Tuesday, Not Monday

Do you have any traditions for this time of year? Apart from the obvious I mean? We have. Every Easter Monday we pack a picnic and head out for the day with a bunch of longtime friends.

We've all been together since we shared a house together in our student days. When we did things like boil potatoes without water in the saucepan (doesn't work); and use the carpet as an irong board (doesn't work); and charm the landlord into letting us redecorate (can work if you really work it).

We've been to each others weddings and visited each others newborns in hospital. We've celebrated new jobs, big birthdays and the Millenium along the way. And we've cried together when one of our own lost her darling husband to cancer.

We're a party, now, of nine adults and eleven children. And, every year we gather together on New Years Eve and Easter Monday (and several other days in between). No arguments, no excuses allowed. Except this year it's a Tuesday.

But, no matter. If the sun shines we'll be sitting at a picnic table enjoying our festive hardboiled egg sandwiches. And if the heavens open - yes, we'll be sitting at a picnic table enjoying our festive hardboiled egg sandwiches. It's been known to blow a gale. It's been known to snow. But that hasn't stopped us yet. And the forecast is looking pretty good for today..

Whatever you are doing this Tuesday, have a Good One!

Oh yes the delights of any weather picnics - I've heard Queen Victoria always refused to defer a picnic due to weather

Sadly I am back to work today and the children are back at school boo hoo! On the upside I only work 3 hours on a Tuesday and there is another 4 day weekend coming up... yippeee! Enjoy your picnic sounds like great fun!

This sounds like a great tradtion,Sian....we too have a small group of friends we always meet up with about 4 times a year.
And why would you ever cancel a picnic because of the weather...we Brits are made of sterner stuff than that!!!!!

Hope you have a great day - whatever the weather.

April is a really beautiful time of the year here so we spend as much time as possible outside before winter comes .. though that sounds so dramatic since it doesn't go under 8C during our winter here anyway!

Hi Sian - a great tradition. There are five of us from college that meet every summer - we rotate around the houses. We are now 10 adults and 11 children - we all get on it is great. Have a good day.
ps you asked about the photos from the visit from the roald dahl museum. Fred took loads of photos that they and they were all fantastic - I turned them into a photobook. He was a photo journalist in a former life.

What a great tradition:) My best friends from college are spread all around the country/world! We've stayed in touch sporadically over the last 20 years, but Facebook has brought us all together again now:)

sweet little card. this was our first easter at home for a good few years so in a way we just broke with tradition. anyway, it was a lovely sunny long weekend. x

I know you'll have a lovely time today. I said good-bye to my son this morning as he and his dad pulled out of the driveway with a loaded U-Haul on their way to Denver. His old bedroom has never been so empty even when he was living in apartments. He took it all. I'll be meeting up with them in a couple of days, but the house feels pretty quiet!

I've been waiting to see that beautiful card--and beautiful it is!

That sounds like a great tradition to keep, and you have lovely weather to enjoy those egg sandwiches! (takes me back to my childhood - the aroma of egg sandwiches released when opening that lunchbox on the bus during a hot and sticky school trip!)

What a wonderful tradition and a great celebration of friendship! I hope that the weather cooperates and you aren't sharing laughs and egg sandwiches in the pouring rain.

Lovely card, Sian!

What a great thing, to have a group of long-term friends and meet up every year, whatever... I hope you have a very happy Easter Tuesday picnic and that, if the sun doesn't shine, you at least get to eat those egg sandwiches in the dry!

Happy Easter Sian, and what a fabby tradition! I do hope you all enjoy your egg butties, rain or shine. I recall BBQ's in the rain when we lived in the UK, we just ate under a sun umbrella! Easter isn't celebrated much in Dubai, although we do scoff chocolate eggs and sometimes get organised enough to have an egg hunt!

What a great way to spend a day. It's great to keep in touch with old friends. Egg sarnies, my fav. but with cress and salad creme for me please.

I have two friends like that too, who were roommates with me way back when when I was in the Navy. We had that shared experience plus getting married, having children, etc., more or less at the same time. We don't get together as often or as regularly as you and your friends do, but when we do it's as if we'd been together just yesterday. No awkwardness or hesitation--just friends from beginning to end.

I lost a lot of traditions after my mom died. It just all seemed to die with her. I tried really hard to establish new traditions with my new family, but with kids from 2 ex-wives (my husband's, not mine) it's hard to set up traditions. Christmas was the most success. Your traditions are the kind I always wanted though... with a group of close knit friends/family. TFS!

Sounds like a fantastic day out. My hubby has to work a lot of bank holidays, he only works in a shop but lots of silly people seem to want to go shopping on bank hols these days! He worked all over easter weekend so it was all a bit subdued here, but at least the weather was good!
hope you have a great day, x

Sounds like a great tradition. Hope Mother Nature co-operated. I remember a few picnics when we were growing up that we had to have in the car. It's just not quite the same. No Easter Monday traditions here other than taking it easy.

Can you believe I forgot it was Easter Sunday and didn't get a roast in? *Hangs head in shame*
