Sunshine And Speech Day Part Two

Speech Day was a good one. We listened to the orchestra, we sat through the speeches, we clapped the prizewinners and then, suddenly, we were drawn back to the College of seventy years ago, to the sandbags and water tanks of war time. To the school Granny knew.

And we were charmed as our guest speaker, who was once a little girl of eight, told us how she had been too young to go to the Pictures with the other boarders one Saturday afternoon, and had ended up at a Sale Of Work with one of the teachers. There had been donkey rides as a special treat; and the donkey man had let her ride home in state to the stables, close to the school. It was a good lesson to learn, she said. That if someone tells you "no", take heart because there will always be something better just round the corner.

So we went home, marvelling at the thought of stables right next to school. Possibly right where Starbucks is now. And I finished up the second half of my double page layout:

I used a sketch from the Studio Calico Sunday sketch collection..and I'll be using it again. Plenty of room for journaling and space for lots of little pictures; and because the emphasis isn't on any one photo it's easy to include images which are only loosely related. It's a perfect design for any kind of round-up page.

I did finally manage to squeeze my doily embellishment in, but I have changed it just a bit. Can you spot the differences?

Today I'm Loving...the look of the kniting and crochet books by Lucinda Guy. Maybe The Small One and I will learn to crochet over the summer.

Yay, go for the crochet! I keep meaning to give it a go too :-) Another lovely layout, Sian, and another lovely story. And what a great motto to hang on to - wish The Girl could accept 'No' sometimes! xx

Layout looks fabby (as always, Sian!). I love the cute little doily embellishment.

Crochet is so nice to do. I much prefer it to knitting. Go and take a look at LollyChops' blog - she sometimes does crochet projects (along with soooo many other lovely things!). http://www.lollychops.com/lollychops/

I'm sure you'll love crochet, I say, give it a go :) A lovely, lovely page - I like the unusal style of it, with all the photos around the edge, and each small but important. Fabulous

Another lovely little story Sian & like you say, how nice to have had a stable around the corner!
Do have a go at the crochet. I love doing it when I have the time .... only simple granny squares though cos I only started a few months ago! If you haven't already seen lucys blog at http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/ I thoroughly recommend her. Also Pip at http://meet me at mikes.blogspot.com has some great video tutorials to get you started!
Have fun xx

Love each and everyone of those photos! And the bunting and butterfly from the sodapop paper.

I cam closer to figuring out crochet than knitting, so I say go for it!

That's a great lesson to learn. As one door closes another opens. Lovely layout, I like the idea of using several pictures in one layout and this design works fabulously.

Oh! I'm a big fan of crochet. And a bigger fan of your scrapbooking style. Your layouts are detailed and so beautiful. Thanks for checking in on my blog, I'm glad to be back blogging!

Love your story and that little embellishment. Is it the darker button and the two-tone thread that is different? I was never much good at those Spot The Differencs pictures!

I'm a big believer in the idea that things happen for a reason. I'm wishing you success with the crocheting. I was hopeless and always seemed to end up with a great big lump!!!!I think I'll stick to my cardmaking.
Love your LO by the way those photos look great around the page.

These pages go so well together Sian, I'm all thumbs when it comes to crocheting and knitting - they are not a strong point for me!

Another layout with so many lovely details. I'm very fond of the banner and clouds with the butterflies.

I love the page, esp the butterfly on the clouds. The slim photos look cool too. It looks a bit like a vintage movie poster, but better!

I've been planning to try crocheting some flowers for page embellishments, but we'll see!

I love the story behind the layouts, you really do scrap from the heart. What a lucky family you have, nothing important will be forgotten.
Thanks for the sweet comment about my layout too. Have a lovely weekend.
