Lost In Typation

The thing about working outside your comfort zone is that it can get you into some very hot water. This much was obvious on Friday afternoon, when The Accountant crashed through the back door. He was downcast and dampened after an unseemly tussle with a badly behaved washing machine. I opened my mouth to point out that he was dripping on the sofa; but he was waving a copy of Plumbing For Dummies in a threatening manner. So I left it. He stomped off to get changed. But I could tell it was still preying on his mind because, when he came back in later after leaving The Small One to her dance class, he said
"She's your daughter alright. She said she was tired and I said not as tired as I am. How many washing machines did you carry about today? And completely straight-faced she replied, 'Three. Because the Home Economics teacher wanted us to wash all the cookery class tea towels, so my friend and I strapped three washing machines on our backs and got on the Games bus and took them to the playing fields and washed the tea towels instead of playing hockey.' Straight-faced."
Then he laughed, because she had broken off and said "I've just got a text message from Mum. It says beong mire mokk"
"You still can't type on that iphone, can you?"
And I had to admit that no, I couldn't. I can't do a lot with it yet, to be honest, and I'm in need of a Dummies book myself. So all suggestions will be gratefully received. Anyone know of any good apps for scrapbooking bloggers? Many thanks

i have to say plumbing for dummies sounds like a cooler book than texting for dummies!!!!!!! oh dear know what having no washing machine is like and no cooker! i think u did handsomely not getting embroiled in the obvious angst, hope u know what i mean, of a girl and an accountant who don't know what they are doing!!!! lol. accountants are obviously g8 with money so perhaps employing a plumber rather than DIY would have suited him better and got u a machine that worked!!! good luck.

:o) I have no tips for you on the iPhone, but I loved reading your cute story!

Hmm, for someone who spent 10 years working in IT, I have rather a poor grasp of up-to-date technology! Sorry, can't help with the I-Phone (I-Pod is about all I can manage!).

But the story was great! Your family sound like a lot of fun - you really should keep notes and turn it into a book one day.

Another great story, Sian. I wish I could help with the iPhone, would love to have one, though. Can't do much with texting on my phone either, which my son finds most amusing!

I love my iphone, and I love the facebook app, which helps me post pictures to facebook, which is kindof like mini-blogging. In fact, facebook is what made me think I would like blogging in the first place.
Love, love, love the story. The small one rawks! My DH is not allowed to do plumbing about the house. . . something about a flooded townhouse kitchen during our first year of marriage.
By the way, I am signed up for the Debbie Hodges scrapbooking class. It was so inexpensive, and I thought I could use it to either do a project album (my wedding, most likely, or maybe my heritage album) or even work on regular pictures.

Sian, I honestly love your stories! You tell them so well! The small one sounds like my kinda girl! she's brilliant! I loved the page on the previous post btw, it's incredible!
In answer to the texting thing, i can't really give much help as i've grown up texting like all the time! Hope u get the hang of it though cos I-phones are really great! xxx

Ha, how this made me chuckle Sian. You always write a good story that makes me smile. I cannot help with the iphone. Sorry I don't own one, but I am sure someone can help out.

PS Thanks for the idea of making my dress, but my sewing skills are something left to be desired I am afraid. It is a shame you don't live closer, it would of been a great help as I have seen what I think want but it is the wrong colour. May have to sweet talk Steve's Gran for a bit of help.

I wonder where your daughter gets her imagination from? ;-)
So it would seem that plumbing does not come naturally to accountants. If it makes you feel better, from my husband's experience, building surveyors aren't very good plumbers either. I think it's time to call in the experts. Probably by land-line rather than text ;-)

Hurrah for The Small One - quick-thinking, a great inventor-on-the-spot ... she'll go far. As far as Narnia, and further! Sorry can't help with the texting problem but I know a good plumber. :) alexa

I would be no help to you whatsoever .... I have an antiquated little bomb of a phone that I can barely see the screen - oh, it has to be turned on for that ;-)

I'd love an iphone. My mobile's in perfect working order but so old that I feel tempted to drop it from a great height - just so that I'd have a justifiable excuse for buying a new one. Good luck with the texting :)

Maybe you have the same problem as me. My fingers are slower than my brain (or is it the other way round?) and I end up typing gobbleygook!

I don't have an iphone but I do have a kind of poor cousin to it - a touchscreen type - and it's led to several amusing typos. Not as amusing as predictive text though. My old phone turned my deputy head's name from Jill to Kill, and the head from Viv to Tit. I shall not tell you if these were appropriate alternatives ;-)
