Memorandum Monday

Well hello there sunny Monday: glad you could make it! It's work as usual here today, no holiday, but we're in a pretty good mood all the same.

What I was reading this weekend

In part I think that might be because we emerged unscathed from another "last" on Friday night. This was a big one: the last end of year Dance Show, after ten years of the same. Ten years of packing a bag every Friday afternoon and heading out to class: once the tiny girl in her first pair of jazz shoes, now she's a grown up beauty who still chooses dance class over partying on a Friday night. There was a "Leavers" dance on the programme, we knew it would be an emotional night. But we held it together, just. And now it's over.

Or maybe it's because we spent a satisfying afternoon in the fresh air, weeding Granny's garden yesterday. No firsts there; though I did wear my Practically Giving It Away shirt for the first time.

I chose a linen shirt - £25 - (love a linen shirt) this week, took it to the till and it rang in at £2.75. £2.75! You can't buy a magazine for that! The girl said that it must be sale stock which had been put out on the floor by mistake. So I took it up and ran with it before she changed her mind. Because I hadn't been looking for shirts in the first place. I was shopping for what my Grandma would delicately have classed as "foundation garments". And I re-learned what in our hearts we've all known since Jackie magazine told us as teenagers: properly fitting foundation garments really do make life quite a bit better. (Side Story: I have two friends who, when we were students, worked in the lingerie department of a famous, fancy department store here. The tales they tell of the things the good ladies of our fine city thought appropriate to leave behind in the changing rooms would curl your hair.) So, no huge revelations this weekend (um, unless you count the size I was wearing when I went into the shop measured against the size I came out in). What did I learn? Well that, obviously, and that star shaped toes are really fast to do when you are on a sock knitting deadline. Because it's practically June and that means a new pattern. I'm thinking of one called "Dither", to mark our inability this year to come up with a holiday plan to suit everyone. We have booked nothing.

How about you? Did you do anything for the first time? Learn something you didn't know before? maybe it's time to make a memorandum. On Monday.

Ruth, Helena, Eileen, Liz, Mitra, Mary-Lou, Karen, Deb, Jane, Krafty Karen, Ladkyis, Cheri, Susanne, Fiona , Maggie and Miriam did just that last week. Go on, give 'em a wave! And have a good week!

that is some milestone with the last dance show. I was discussing undergarments and first being measured for them at my craft/chat/cake group last week - lots of giggles and cringing. have a good week

lots of chuckles about "foundation under garments".

Ah the milestone last of anything is mixed with a moving on good & the sad leaving behind.

There must be so many lasts, SIan, at the moment. And in a few months, there'll be lots of firsts ... Envying you that linen shirt - what a bargain! Do make sure someone takes a photo. Sending that lovely daughter of yours every good wish for these exam days, and admiring her steadfastness to her dancing.

Goodness busy girl rehearsing for a show as well as revising. Well done for not crying. It's an emotional time isn't it? That shirt was a real bargain. I smiled about the foundation garments. Such a quaint name. The Sister in A&E at the hospital where I trained declared that she always ironed her underwear just in case one day she should be the one coming in on the stretcher!

What a bargain ... I'd have run too.

Sounds like you got yourself a real bargain there. Hope you manage to come up with a holiday plan soon and there is us getting twitchy because we have no idea or plans for next year apart from the conventions LOL!!

Hope you have a great week x

Now that was a bargain - I love it when you get extra bonus reductions at the till - feels like a reward for being happy to pay whatever the tag price was. Not that rewards come much bigger than yours - that was quite the discount!

Hoping the transition from such a regular pastime on to pastures new is smooth and buoyant - I'm sure she's going to embrace all the new opportunites heading her way.

Similarly ... wishing you well in your own transition to that new bra size [I won't use the word 'buoyant' here ... or maybe I should?]

Happy new week Sian. xx

Wow! What a bargain. Those "lasts" keep coming and it doesn't get any easier. Some exciting "firsts" on their way though. I keep thinking I should be professionally measured, but never seem to quite get round to it! I will need to go strapless for both my wedding guest outfits so that may be the push (up?) I need!

Score on the bargain shirt! And I understand the dithering too. Travel is glamorous and fun - travel planning is neither - but one has to remember is it usually necessary and almost always worth it. Unless you take the advice above, and just go - that's worked for us as well.

Oh wow. The last dance. Where has the time gone?

I took one of mine for some foundation garments the other day (I love that!) Am pleased to say I have instilled the bend and shoogle element of testing the fit in both my elder girls now. Just to make sure everything stays where it should ;) Love the bargain shirt too! I would have run as well!

Your description of the last dance recital brought back so many memories of my kids' senior "lasts." They stay with you forever. We had a great weekend, but there wasn't any time to get a blog post up since Monday was also part of the weekend here. Blog post coming later tonight.

That looks like a great and busy weekend with a great bargain! My friend was corsetiere to the Queen, she couldn't repeat any stories though.
