Today I'm posting the page I made for Tuesday's Gossamer Blue Insta-Hop. An insta-hop? Like a blog hop, only faster and more fun. We always share some extra inspiration in the middle of the month and to shake things up a little this time round, we turned to instagram. If you're there, you can find me @fromhighinthesky, tap on the photo which looks like the one below, and before you know it, you'll be racing through a whole new gallery of projects for @gossamerblue.
I held out against instagram for years. I thought I didn't need another place to "be". Turns out I was wrong. Not only is instagram stuffed with a brain crunching number of wonderfully creative individuals willing to share what they've been up to, it has also made it easy to click that little heart and show some appreciation of what you are seeing. And because the inspiration is there, I've been encouraged to work on my photos, to find different ways to show my layouts. You could say that everything was coming up roses. (No: you really could. Spring is in the air and my photos have actually been all about the roses this week).
And then..and then came the news of changes. Instagram is reworking the way it displays your feed. It will no longer be arranged chronologically and, instead, an algorithm will be used to decide what you will be seeing, when. This I don't like. I'm thinking about signing the petition at change.org
But I'm also musing over a different take, which I found this morning here at smalltalksocial . It's a persuasive article and definitely worth a look. Let me know what you think!
Oh, and have a good St Patrick's Day if you are planning anything emerald coloured and full of good fortune. I have my March Sock of the Month started, with a touch of green and a plan for added authenticity: if it works out, I'll have learned something new. Stay lucky!

Aaaah. Why do they not just leave things alone? I know Change is a Constant...but honestly. ANNOYING....off to check out those links..... lovely florals on your page...& clever photography :)
I have accounts on both FaceBook and Instagram, so the articles interested me. I decided some time ago that blog reading would be my internet addiction (letting FaceBook and Instagram go, for the most part), so I'm not in any position to register an opinion. I do, however, have an opinion about your layout----and it's lovely as always, as is the way you've photographed it.
Im trying not to go down the Instagram route (or twitter!) I have enough that I dont fully understand/use properly lol. It makes my head hurt lol. Love your layout xx
Lovely layout, very fresh. What I like most is that the photo stays the focus. A side note, that tour would have been SO fascinating.
I am not a tweeter, not an insta gal & not even my own F/B page - I get way too much of that at work; Reading the blogs & blogging takes a lot of time, so I stop there, other wise there would be no time for scrapping.
Happy St Patrick's Day to you.
I LOVE your page Sian.
I have always had a soft spot for roses!
Thanks for sharing the link toward the article.
I also feel like it's a bummer Insta is changing but I don't think we can do much about it.
WE will get over it and we will probably forget what it was like pre-algorythm and then once we have adapted, there will be another change again ;)
xx
This is not only a lovely page, Sian, but beautifully styled too with those fresh flowers. The Surgeon's Hall looks like a very interesting place to visit but possibly not for the faint-hearted? Hmmm, I hadn't caught up with this piece of Instagram news; and despite the breathless enthusiasm of your link lady, I'm not sure I would bother much with it any more if it doesn't let me see the most recent 'post' ...
I have an Instagram account but rarely use it. I feel limited by the square shape. Change can be very annoying. Facebook are the same for making changes all the time.
I like the page and the pops of yellow made me smile - feels so spring like.
Lovely page Sian.....the Instagram news hadn't reached me...am confused by algorithms but will be annoyed if it hangers too much! Xx
Thanks for the link, I had planned to sign the petition and still will even though I realize it won't make a difference @@ At least that way I feel my opinion has been expressed. I'm a little confused as to how it will change. I generally just see the people I follow so that part won't change will it?
I did sign the petition, even though I knew it wouldn't make one bit of difference but at least I feel I stood my corner. In sure I'll get used to the changes. I've already put my notifications on for some feeds. IG is such a friendly happy place, I hope it doesn't change.
A gorgeous gorgeous layout Sian x
I have Instagram and don't like what they are doing but am sure in time I will get used to it. Love your layout - the colours are gorgeous.
I signed the petition too....I just like things to stay the way I like them.
I know... progress...technology... things change...but I rather liked IG just the way it was. Gorgeous layout Sian...as always.
I love Instagram, it's quick to post to and it's quick to comment on! I also like the way that a group of people can post individual pictures using a hashtag to make a link so you can easily see what everyone else in the group is doing rather than having to scroll down to find them all.
Lovely layout!
The instagram stuff is interesting...things are changing faster than we can keep up with it and there are so many ways to share your work. I just posted on Medium this morning, which is more writing based. I say just keep on keeping on. Love your layout! Hugs!
Pretty page, as always, staged so lovely too. Why oh why can't Instagram stick with logical organization instead of subjecting us to the algorithms necessitated by advertising. Honestly, I don't care to give them that control!
I can't understand why they want to change it, it seems these tech people don't know the saying "if it ain't broke then don't fix it" I know I won't use it so much if it goes the way of Facebook. Great layout :)
Lovely layout Sian. Thanks for the link to the petition. They always seem to ruin things - I want to decide what I want to see not have them think they know what I want to see.
