Memorandum Monday

So, have I got this right? I've checked the calendar, just to make sure we really do have an extra day this year. On a Monday, too, which could feel like a bad thing; but which instead leaves me quite happy to finish off February the way I had intended

Because over the weekend I realised I was in danger of having as my learning experience the feeling of complete sock failure. I wasn't ready for that. Back in January I laid out my plan for a "sock of the month": a different pair for a different mood each month, all year. January featured a back-to-work plain black pair. February was to be a Valentine's pair, with little hearts on the heels.. And here we were kicking at the door for March, and I had done about two rows. I had to work fast. If I drop behind now, I'll be stuck on Easter bunnies in August (though, honestly, I'm unlikely to wear socks with, um, bunnies on. I'll think of something else).

So, where's the new? I put aside the self striping wool and instead I striped by own fair hand; and then I followed the chart and knitted in a heart. As you can see from the picture, I have one finished and the other (artfully arranged) one nearly there. I discovered this morning that there is no good way to take a photo of hearts on your heels if you are on your own in the house. (That has to be a country song title somewhere?)

I can recommend the pattern. It's a free Ravelry download called Love Socks, by Devon Clement, and it's very easy to follow. It's on my sock knitting Pinterest board. Now, March: socks of green? Too obvious?

Have you done something this weekend you have never done before? Learned something new? You are very welcome to share! Last week

Becky, Melissa, Deb, Ruth, Helena, Jane, Alison, Miriam, Mitra, Mary-Lou, Ladkyis, Karen, Cheri, Susanne, Maggie, MardiBeverly and KraftyKaren

all made a Memorandum on Monday. Go on, give 'em a wave! And have a good week.

Now that's very clever. Four leaf clovers on your heels for March? Happy Monday to you Sian.

Wearing your hearts on your heel, are you? Love the colors, perfect for wearing with blue jeans. Those are always the socks I wear out first.

yeah Feb seems to have wizzed by. Love the socks. I'm hearing that song already - have a great week

Can I do the follow up to your country song? with my own lament [which I'm having again, right now] 'There's no easy way to get a photo of the back of your head when you're alone in the house'.

Those socks looks so comfy!

Have a good week ahead. x

Hearts in the heels? How wonderful! And the blue on blue looks very cool indeed.

Love the socks, and am always in awe of anyone who can knit something other than a scarf!

Those hearts on your socks are great. I was thinking maybe eggs for March? Now I am not brilliant at Maths but I do know that I can work out whether it is a leap year by dividing the year number by 4. While we are on the subject my friend 's 24 year old son is celebrating his 6 th birthday today. How about that?

Hearts on your heels - how can you possibly hide those away in a pair of boots?!
March design ideas: it's my birthday in March so how about cakes or balloons?

I know just how you feel, I hate failing at anything, I would be knitting through the night!

Your concept of a pair of socks a month sounds like a fun idea. Until it's not! Just enjoy the process. If you have to skip a month, just do it. You certainly don't need any pressure. Fun is supposed to be fun. Let's keep it that way. Your socks are all amazing, no matter how many there are!

Beautiful socks Sian and thank you for this funny post ;)
March socks have to have green but what about some yellow for the daffodils, oh and some pink for the Cherry blossoms, and some red for the tulips and.... ☺

Well better a heart on the heel than on the sleeve - maybe not the most catching of sayings, I will work on this a bit more. Yes the second sock is very artfully posed & very nice colours. Socks have featured predominantly in my world today - It's crazy sock day at the work.

I've cast on round needles for the first time to knit a snood! It doesn't look right though as the needle part is thicker than the wirey bit so when I've pushed the stitches round they look very loose :-( - anyhoo, I need to scrapbook fir the first time lol and you must do bunnies on your socks xx

With hearts on my heels I wouldn't want to put my shoes on :)

I continue to be in awe of your knitting skills!

I was most impressed with your photo! How many times did you take it? I was looking for the heart and then when you said it was on your heel...I was all kinds of impressed with that idea...want a pair myself! The blue is delish!

I just cant imagine being able to knit a sock that fits a foot let alone knit a heart into it. Sock knitters amaze me.... you have to get two pieces exactly the same... scary stuff!
I do love your commitment to a drawer full of the most beautiful hand knitted socks though...and you are on target!
Have a great week.

Very cute socks, I had planned to knit a pair a month last year but I failed terribly :)

I'm impressed that you can knit socks let alone put hearts on the heels. My own attempts ... well, the least said, the better!

Good plan! Hope it's gotten executed by now....me not being around much means getting behind. I'll be getting further behind in the next few months...so will have to adjust in similar ways to you, too....& I have a plan for Easter. Eggs, sort of representations thereof. In different colours. Overlapping patterns. I can SEE it ....but of course, that's the extent of my sock skills;)!!!

They look lovely, Sian. I'd never have guessed the other one wasn't finished! You are very clever ...
