Memorandum Monday

Oh, Monday I'm ready! You could almost say I've been waiting a lifetime for this week, in which we'll celebrate the 21st birthday of our first born. I was supposed to go into hospital on Valentine's Day in 1995; but I talked the midwife out of her plan - I thought he'd like it better that way, having a different birthday - so I held on and stayed home with my feet up.

Twenty one years later we had a restful day at home too. A nice dinner, some sock knitting, a jigsaw..

Oh yes, the jigsaw: that would bring me to what I did for the first time ever over the weekend. I signed up for Amazon Prime. I know: I'm probably the last person on the planet to put a tick in that box. But for this direct debit hating, monthly subscription avoiding, don't pay for it if you can't see it, kind of shopper? That's quite a step. Two things made me do it in the end: the thought of any book I chose landing in my lap the very next day; and the urgent - very urgent - need for a Valentine's Day gift with lightening speed. That would be the jigsaw.

So that would be me almost in the 21st Century, what with my upgraded phone and all. Little E facetimed last night and I told him all about my technological advances. I was even thinking, I said, of making a video with my phone and I'd been looking at clips and holders for said phone, so I'd be hands free (and the very next day, too, now, thanks to Prime). He nodded. Of course he knew what I meant. He's a six year old boy, way ahead of me. I'll show you, he said, with this phone and our holder. Which led, as his uncle pointed out, to quote of the weekend:

" Just hold on Auntie Sian. I'm going to suction cup you to the wall..."
Have a good Monday! Last week:

Becky, Melissa, Deb, Jane, Karen, Fiona, Mary Lou, Maggie, Karen, Susanne, Mitra, Barbara, Eileen, Rinda, Helena, KraftyKaren, Miriam and Cheri

shared their notes on what was new, what was done for the first time. Go on, check them out: I can practically guarantee you'll learn something you didn't know before!

Oh, and I did do one other thing this weekend. Now that instagram has made it so much easier to switch between accounts, I opened a new one for my knitting and crochet projects. It's an experiment, to see if it looks and feels better keeping the papercrafting more focussed. We'll see. I can always pull them together again. If you like socks, you can find me @sianknits

More soon.

hope you are no longer suction cupped to the wall - great quote. I haven't succumbed to prime yet - so far I've managed to hold my impatience and use normal delivery. Have a great week

I'm another without Prime ... so you're not the only one who's been resisting (I don't think I'd use it enough to make it worthwhile).

I do love that quote. So much. How times and tech have changed - even in those 21 years of TTO.

As for my weekend lessons... that good friends don't mind when you don't take any crafting to a crafting day because your crafted out. And they tolerate you taking a laptop instead. And they ask when you're writing that book.

Happy Monday Sian, enjoy the week ahead. x

No idea what Prime is... But glad you're enjoying it!!! I rather like the mix of your socks & scraps - but see how it feels ....& congrats on having a 21 yo :)

I keep resisting amazon prime, perhaps one day. My husband is doing a jigsaw as I type!

Awww you are far more technologically advanced than me and I'm getting worse for putting my head in the sand but I really need to try and change!!

Hope it didnt hurt getting suction cupped to the wall - there is nothing worse lol.

Happy 21st to your son.

The only jigsaws I like are the ones with little pegs on ;-)

Have a great week x

It was a "needing a gift in a hurry" situation, that caused me to grab a month's free trial just over a year ago. I kept it for the streaming, rather than the next day delivery, although that still comes in handy now and again. I highly recommend Outlander, especially if you're partial to men in kilts!

Lots of lol moments in your post today. I am maybe going in the technology opposite way. I have joined a group that is putting down as much technology as possible for the 40 days of lent & at the end we will meet to discuss how much we really want to pick up again (requirements in jobs do not count). Our youngest member is 8 years old & our oldest member is 78 years old.

Okay, I must be the last person on the planet to resist Amazon Prime. I have Netflix, so don't need the tv streaming. I read a lot of books, but I'm not sure if they are all free for my Kindle. We already have that expedited shipping here in Nashville---although I don't know if it costs extra. I guess I'll have to check out Prime and see if it would really be worth it for me. Sounds like you are already getting your money's worth.

I keep laughing as I think of you stuck to the wall with a suction cup :) I put my feet up with Maddie, they told me on the Wednesday that she was on her way and I wouldn't allow it because Wednesday's child is full of woe so I made her wait until the Thursday :)

Suction cupped to the wall, that sounds painful! Good job you've got Little E to help you with all things technical.
I don't have Amazon prime, but I'm sure it's just a matter of time before I succumb. I need to be sure that I can justify the cost - ask me again in December!

I can't believe that Little E would do such a thing! You are in good company having resisted Amazon Prime for so long. My daughter has it for the streaming and the fast delivery, which I took benefit of last summer when she is home - she gets a student half price rate. But now that she's at school I'm on the fence about how long I can delay getting my own account. We tend to buy more and more things through Amazon these days - from books to toilet seats to an occasional scrapbook doodad - all of that just since Christmas.

A year or so ago, Sarah discovered that it's possible to share an Amazon Prime account, so that's what we've been doing for awhile. Helps keep the price down, but I love the 2-day shipping. In Chicago, there are even items that can be delivered the day you order them! (An advantage to living in a large market. Little E does it again. I hope there's scrapbook page coming.

Well! When you do manage to get down off the wall I hope you have a good time celebrating the 21st. What you didn't say was whether he is home to celebrate it with you. Need any help with the jigsaw? I am getting jigsaw withdrawal symptoms but know really I should be getting on with other things. I have not been drawn into Amazon Prime yet but the other day I did do something kind of similar. I was ordering one thing from M&S . Now normally I would up the order to £50 just to get the free postage. You know the kind of thing. Tights, new knickers, socks, greetings cards. Anything to boost the bill which will come in useful one day but THIS time. No! I had it sent by fast delivery to make sure it was here in time! The extravagance!

I now have this picture in my head of you suction cupped to the wall!

I don't use Amazon Prime, I've managed to resist it so far.

Happy Birthday to your first born. 21 years ago, so a celebration for you too ... you did all the hard work after all!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your son Sian! 21, that is quite the birthday! My son turned 21 at Christmas.
Thanks for this fun post!

I've managed to resist Prime so far too! Hope you have done wonderful birthday celebrations. Xx

Joining in a day late but I'm here eventually!
Happy Birthday to your son. I hope you got (or get) a chance to celebrate together.
I loved the quote .. only littlies can say things like that.
I use my sister's amazon prime for the TV. I did sign up for a free trial when I wanted a parcel next day - but then cancelled. I do use amazon loads, but not everything can be done 'prime' so I need to research if it would be worth while.

So what was it like, hanging on the wall? It's something I haven't experienced yet! And I seem to be in good company when I say I haven't joined Prime yet. My daughter is a member. My younger two got their free year as college students but then dropped it. I could see paying for it if it wasn't quite so expensive. I usually just make sure my order is over the free shipping limit and that I'm not in a hurry...

Oh, little E really knows how to come out with them, doesn't he! We make brief videos to send to The Littles, but we just prop our phone up against a book. I'm sure we have a suction cap thingy lurking in the man cave ... I am sure he and you will have a lot of fun :). Many congratulations to the birthday boy, though 'man' is probably much more appropriate. And well done you on holding off for a day - there's determination for you. Admiringly yours, Alexa.

Little E is too smart :) Happy birthday to TTO X

Love that quote "I'll suction you to the wall!" LOL

Oh yes, Amazon Prime is our friend . . . so FUN to get what you want within a day or two with no extra fee for shipping. As often as we order, it's saved us money for sure. Enjoy!

I'll be back this week for Memorandum Monday now that I've caught my breath after three weekends of teaching and then my parents' anniversary celebration.

Well you're one up on me! How do you open a second IG account

LOL - love that quote. 6 year olds are the best! Good luck with your technological adventures. Haven't joined Prime yet although it sure has been tempting.
