Hi everyone! If you are looking for Memorandum Monday, please scroll to the next post down; and if you are looking for the Love Your Selfie Giveaway (still open until midnight Thursday 18th February) please scroll a little further to here.
It's not often I have two posts ready to go on one day; but today isn't just any Monday, it's Monday 15th and that means it's time for the mid month Gossamer Blue Inspiration Blog Hop. If your kit has just arrived with you, maybe you are wondering where to start? I never can go past a wood veneer without thinking about where I can place it on a page; and this month's Main Kit had me spoilt: the scissors! the speech bubble! I decided I would combine them:
I took my pencil and drew round the speech bubble so that I could stitch its shape
and save the original. And then I was inspired to do a little bit more stitching too. It is, after all, a layout about my eternal, internal struggle. I was brought up in a family of makers. We didn't buy it if we could make it ourselves. And that sticks. Even today I find it hard to spend money on something I could probably have a go at creating myself. In the back of my mind I can hear my Mum saying ..But you could make it yourself for half the price.
Maybe you could find a way to make the wood veneers do double duty for you too? But first, check out what the rest of the Gossamer Blue team have been up to, on the Inspiration Blog Hop. And if you are charmed by the veneers, you can find the kit here

Stitching on a scrap layout - it is perfect for your story. I make the thick cardboard letters do double duty by using them as a trace pattern, similar to your speech bubble. I was raised that things need to do double duty, including & especially crafts & hobby things.
Another clever, creative, delightful scrapbook page! I used to do a lot of sewing, making clothes for all of the family, but many years ago discovered it was less expensive to buy the clothes. The cost of fabric, buttons, patterns and thread had gone up so much that if I waited for a sale, it was considerably cheaper to buy the garment.
Gorgeous Gorgeous layout Sian!
This kit has your name written all over it!

great idea, I hate using my wood veneers, I'm always saving them for something special.
You stitched! Looks brilliant. Great idea. Shouldn't be surprised that you stitched..... I'm always surprised when I do, LOL... & that little '&' flair. YUM! Well worth showing off!!!
Beautiful page. So many wonderful little details!
We used to have the same discussion of "but I could make that..." I have now learned to follow it up with the question "But, will you?" If my time resources are tight or my skills questionable, I am willing to pay for someone else's labor - especially on creative things!
I love this page, with its horizontal gathering of photo and paper and clever speech bubble stitching. Neat! Great jumper - I love Fairisle, and it always makes me feel so young ....
Love this!! Love it in every way actually... the story...the jumper and your layout with stitching.

I think there's a lot of us who have the same struggle. I often think I can make it ... and know I will never get around to it. A page with lots going on and the added stitching finishes it nicely x
Those wood veneer scissors are so perfect on this great layout! And I like that you were able to use the speech bubble and save it, too!
That's so lovely Sian, very clever
Lovely layout and great use of the veneer. I'm always saying I could make things cheaper, it's a shame I don't have the time to make more!
Sian, this is amazing, every little detail, your writing, it's all amazing.
Great way to get double use out of an embellishment! The layout looks great!
