So , to go along with the chicken egg timer he gave me for my birthday, Little E had also wrapped a very useful tin of paperclips and elastic bands, a Minions multi colour pen (LOVE that), and sent a card. I love you to the moon and back, it said, and he had signed it himself.
But what Little E couldn't have known was that, just a couple of weeks before, I had been working on a page about the very book from which that now famous phrase has been pulled:
Guess How Much I Love You has been a favourite here for a long, long time, ever since Uncle Dave heard that he was going to be an uncle and went straight out and bought me a copy. I read it to the baby before he was born (which, I guess, is as good a way as any for a librarian on maternity leave to spend her time), and I read it again after we met him properly, and then of course to his little sister too, after.
In those days we had no idea of the worldwide fame Guess How Much I Love You would go on to achieve. Then, we thought we had found a little gem by a man who lived just down the road, in its first printing, stacked up high in the local bookshop. But it's still selling in thousands, as it should. If you have come across it, you'll know why. If you have yet to enjoy that pleasure - quick, search out someone small and see if they'll share...
This page was made in response to a sketch challenge at Get It Scrapped. The original design is by the hugely talented Corrie Jones, whose pages I admire very much and you can see how it has been interpreted by other Creative Team members (and download a copy of the sketch) on the Get It Scrapped blog right here. The stamp is by Gossamer Blue, I cut the black letters with my Slice machine and just for a change I chose a soft blue background. Now, how much am I thinking about a bedtime story right now? Just. Guess.

This is an absolutely fabulous page! I love the stitched rays, the wonderful "Story Time" cow, and all the little embellishments. To say nothing of the journaling, and the fact that we, too, love this book! Our children are now reading it to their children---as it should be.

Love love love that stitched star burst. Will have to try that. Yes this is or was a fave in our house too. It's now safely stored in the loft awaiting the arrival of small people to read it too ( probably a good few years off but I couldn't part with it and several others!)
I'm another who loves the stitched star burst and the cow embellie! Do you want to know something? The Boy Child never really took to Guess How Much I Love You, his favourites when he was small were the Hairy Maclary books.
Interesting page. I never read or had read to me this story. I am curious so I just might wander to the library to spend an hour or two in their air conditioning reading up on some children's stories.
A beautiful page. Love the stitching and placement of the journaling. I've seen that book but my girls never had it. I'll have to go look at it at the book store. Might find its way onto my children's book shelf.
How wonderful to have a first edition, Sian ... I like your stitching very much and the way it divides up the page. And all those little wooden (?) stars - perfect for your theme and cow/moon :).

That is one of my favourite books too Sian, all my three grand daughters had it read to them, over and over. We have little rabbit characters too.

Great take on that sketch & how FUN that Little E's card had a quote from that book! (And a Minion pen sounds FUN, too!) I just might use that sketch today as I'm hibernating in my craft room due to the extremely HOT temperatures outside! :)

That has been a favourite book of mine and Sam's since she was little, she's 21 now but we still have to read it every time we see it :) Great page x
