Sock Knitting (But With Papercrafting..)

...because, although I have a new found enthusiasm for one, I could never stop loving the other..

...and that means a new page in The Big Brown Notebook Of Socks..

...for my first pair of manly man socks: a UK size 10 knitted in Drops Fabel Grey/Brown print from the basic pattern in Ann Budd's Getting Started Knitting Socks

Yes making a page in my notebook was just as much fun as knitting the socks. I added some Crate Paper and Shimelle diecuts, Simple Stories alpha stickers, a stamp from Gossamer Blue and gold accents, including a big coffee splat stamp I've had for years. Manly, see?

I've noted that I did the tops and heel flaps in plain grey. Next time I might leave the heel patterned and knit the toe in a plain.

After all, I've got to keep it interesting. I have a whole notebook to fill...

Well, I love the socks---your choice of pattern and color are wonderful---, but I also love the notebook pages you're creating and wondering how I might "jazz" up a couple notebooks of mine.

Isn't it good when two (or more) passions can come together. Like the colour of the socks.

Gorgeous and very manly, you would never suffer from a pack of black socks that have different heels and toes and that once worn they never find their 'heel and toe' mate ever again!

magnificent manly socks. And love how the notebook is a scrapbook too

Your sock prowess never ceases to amaze! And I love that coffee splat stamp ~ brilliant! I'm hoping that I'll be able to see some "Sian socks" IRL very soon ...

Love the loose fit of the socks. Perfect for lounging about. And I know what you mean about the lure of paper crafting. I've been drawn back to scrapping so much this year.

OK...so I STILL hate the idea of knitting the darned things [or darning them for that matter]..but I have to say, with those colours & that pattern...well....if you're ever taking orders, count me in. Hate to admit it, but they're winning me over. And I have to say it. COME ON....get a REAL coffee cup stain going over the pretend splat. G'arn.....it will look sensational & be oh, so authentic;)!!!!

Those are amazing! So many projects, so little time..

A real coffee cup drip would make lovely crinkly pages. I like crinkly pages..though it's probably somewhere in the Librarian code that I'm not allowed to say that.

These yarns are just so clever with their neat pattering. Another gorgeous pair of socks and I love how you are documenting them. It makes me think of The Foot Book by Dr Seuss.

OMGosh! Those socks are incredible. I love the yarn and colors. I've never made socks. They look too daunting to me.

Sian, those socks are absolutely gorgeous and they look so very comfortable. I LOVE socks in the winter time, something so soft you can almost feel them loving your feet and legs. LOL
I want to thank you too for visiting my blog!

I am admiring your sock pattern Sian and it takes me straight back to the Shetlands and the fair isle knitting I saw. I went to a wool mill - it was heaven sent! I saw every stage from unpacking fleeces to the spinning of finished wool. The only thing missing was the dying process, but it was fascinating to see washing, carding, spinning and the knitting. I bought a huge bag of half knitted pieces that were rejected, ready to felt or make into bags etc. I wish I had the patience to knit like you.... the socks look so cosy and original. Lucky those who get to wear them.

The socks are adorable - how I wish I had the skill, patience and time for knitting! It makes me want to give it a go when I come over here. But in my heart I know it would be a fail! But the paper crafting aspect is just as adorable. I love how you've really summed up the style of the socks wit the products and designs choices you've made!

These are just beautiful, Sian! How clever you are! Those colours and patterns are right up my street (you know I love grey!), and I'd love a cardie like that :). Your page is delightful too with those colours and I am sure you (and Nona!) are going to find it incrediby useful in the years to come ...

Sorry, was that a little gender-biased? :(. The Tall One too might find inspiration - I have a fantasy of him in wig and gown with his sock-knitting under the lectern/table in front of him for all the boring bits ...

Love the idea of the sock/project notebook and the socks look great. I have a couple on needles that I've never finished - got to the point of the heel and then lost interest. Maybe I'll pick them up while I'm at home between treatments.
