Me On Monday

Me on Monday? You've caught me shopping for stationery

and it's all down to our marathon weekend.

Reduced to three once more - after a mid week flight took one of our number back to Scotland for the new term - we had planned ahead, with a box set of Game of Thrones  for the Olds to watch while there was exam revision going on. Marathon Number One.

Then we remembered the actual marathon was on - in London, with real running and hard exercise and talent and heart warming moments - so we enjoyed that, for Marathon Number Two.

But the longest marathon of all was Number Three, which won't actually end until 9pm tonight (on the dot, not that she's counting or anything) belongs to The (Not So) Small One. Her Girl Guides are raising money for a local charity which supports the Homeless; and to boost funds this weekend, they have been holding a sponsored...

..Go Without Mobile Phones (and the rest). It's been a hard going, no phone, no laptop, no ipad, al;l devices banned, no communication kind of weekend

which ended with some back to basics games of draughts last night, then, while I knitted (rock on, socks!) and thought about old style correspondence.

I'd love to say my musings on letter writing were brought on entirely by the weekend lack of other forms of communication. But that wouldn't be entirely true. I'd already been following a trail I stumbled upon at the end of last week. Pocket Letters, anyone? I've been reading about them on the Pocket Letters blog and I could definitely be persuaded to give it a go: filling a page protector with all kinds of good stuff, writing a penpal letter and tucking it inside? Tempting, very tempting. Let's see how my week goes: I might have time to have a look at making one..

Last week Barbara, Jane, Fiona, Stacey, Deb, Helena, Eileen, Rachel B, Ladkyis, Ruth, Doris, Susanne and Alison all gave us a wave and a glimpse into how the week was starting out. Go on, wish 'em a good one!

And you have a great one, too

Ooh, I'd find that very difficult too. Well done to your girl for even attempting it. Hope they raise lots of money. I'm interested to know if you are a binge watcher of box sets, or whether you ration them out? My best friend and I began (separately) watching Breaking Bad last February. She finished all 5 seasons in around 3 weeks and I am currently on episode 5 of season 4!

Well done to TNSSO, I suspect it's harder than I might think! Love that iPad cover!

not sure how I'd fare in a no digital world weekend - or how long it would take to catch up on everything at the end. I've been binging Dr Who on Netflix this week

I admire you for being able to disconnect for the weekend. I say I can't do it, but then when it's forced upon me---unexpected computer repairs---I manage just fine. It's really more that I'm used to multi-tasking. Checking email, blogs, etc. while watching tv. When I scrapbook at the farm, we have no internet access or phone service. That's a forced dis-connect three times a year! Enough for me!

I spent the majority of last week disconnected and it was actually quite pleasant. I hope TNSSO enjoyed some of the time away from devices!

hello there! Just waving you a hello as I have been quiet lately, although I have been lurking :-) Pocket Letters? Yes, I have been doing a few for family and friends, not too arty, more a mix of pictures and a bit of stamping or quotes thrown in. It's fun - check out http://andrea-gomoll.de/2015/04/pocket-letter-pals-bunch-of-outgoing-pocketletters/ for inspiration overload! Have a lovely week.

Oh Sian, I'd absolutely LOVE to become pocket letter pals with you....that'd be just delightful (and their arrival from you would be a much needed 'pick me up'....oh, now you've got me dreaming and scheming....! LOVE your post....your weekend sounded just lovely...had totally forgotten it was the London marathon....usually a highlight of my year...I WILL run it one day.....one day.....

Sounds like a wonderful marathon weekend! We had a huge closet decluttering/organizing/cleaning weekend and now the master closet holds only the clothes that fit and that we want to wear! Lots of work, but worth it! Waving from Texas & hoping you have a lovely week as April comes to a close.

Sounds a great weekend - I like your version of marathons rather than the running variety - lol - they say anyone can run - but I really dont think so!! :-) xx

Sounds like a great 'marathon' weekend - had not heard of pocket letters, so thank you for the link. Hope she raised lots of money by going device free. Still not well enough to wave back at you just yet, I don't want to spread my germs around - hopefully next week I will be back to blogging again. I actually did some proper crafting yesterday!! Have a good week.

Oooh, thank-you for the links - I hadn't heard of pocket letters before. And well done on that marathon deprivation :). Do you think they'll all go on overdrive to catch up? Hoping the Tall One enjoys his last term ...

Game of thrones - big tick! No devices... EEEK! Good on her!!! Loss of body from house... Sad. Pocket page letters. Brill, got distracted following that up for a good 30 mins!!!!!!

I have to admit, I'd have a difficult time going totally device free for several days. I keep everything (including my grocery list) on my phone. Good for TNSSO for signing on! I hope the fund raising goes well.

I'm definitely a ration them out kind of girl! I can't still still long enough for more than two episodes at a time. Season two of Game Of Thrones will probably last us until Fathers Day..when I'm sure Three will arrive

Hi Theresa: It's great to hear from you :) Thanks for the link. I'll check it out

If you run it, I'll come to cheer because I couldn't do it in a million years!

I think my two eldest would shrivel up to nothing without their gadgets! Well done that girl!

The pocket pals sounds really like what I'm doing with my new penpal/bloggy pal. It is SUCH an amazing thing to open a package full of fabulousness and have a lovely long letter to sit and read with a cuppa. It really boosts my week. I say go for it!

We are just about to start Game of Thrones. Our last binge viewing was House of Cards. Sounds like a good weekend. Unplugging seems to be a challenge for all of us these days but I think it is a wonderful idea.

I love to shop for stationery as well, but always stop myself before actually buying anything. It is not like I don't have enough paper in the house as it is. My latest temptation was some Kate Spade items. And while I paused and considered pocket letters (this being the second time I had heard of them) I have decided not to be tempted to split my focus, which seems to be MIA these days. Although it might be a quick way to use up all my "extra" pocket page supplies. No, no, no . . . I am not tempted . . . am I?

Sounds like a great weekend, I don't think I could even go for an hour without my phone!

I can loose hours on the internet and computer so enforced time away would be a good thing. While in Shetland the signal was very poor and some days I had no access - it was quite liberating as I felt free to do other things and not to keep checking for updates. I might use your idea and set times when I do not use technology, and perhaps include the tv too.
As for the pocket letters, I already do something similar. Last year I signed up for an online course and a lovely group has developed through a FB page. As we all share a love for paper we regularly send happy mail and it is so exciting to have beautifully hand scripted envelopes come through my door. I never know what's in them and I love that snail mail is alive again, I think my postman enjoys it too.

Oh, that would be so hard for me what with all our family quite a distance (some thousands of miles) from us. It's my way of keeping in contact with them. I used to have lovely stationary but sadly don't seem to write anymore other than the Christmas letter. Need to change that.
