Pairs: Tarted Up and Truth

Hey Wednesday, how's it going? I'm ignoring the wind and the rain here. No, let's not talk about the weather. Let's find something more interesting to do instead. ..

On Wednesday last year, and in 2013, I always kept an eye out for the photos over at Helena's blog. In 2014 she used the middle of the week to post a Zoom In, Zoom Out picture pairing: always interesting, often intriguing, ZIZO gathered quite a few fans. So for 2015 Helena suggested a free choice of pairs - any two photos with a link.

Mmm..what to choose? what to choose? I like the possibilities with "then and now" - always a favourite kind of scrapbook page for me, I think if I started to gather more "then and now" pictures, I'd find at least a story or two to tell.

But for today I have a different pairing. All this finding out how to use my new camera has me pondering the way we show ourselves through the images we choose to post on our blogs. The perfect versus the imperfect, the unedited against the heavily tweaked. Messy life, or magazine perfect. Everyone has an opinion. So, with this in mind, and as I continue to experiment with my pictures, I offer you..

....The tarted up and the truth

That's my tarted up picture at the top. I can think of several stories I could use it for. But that wouldn't really be the truth. Here's the truth:

Not one nice bottle, but instead, every free bottle we could find. There were others, but we had already drained them by the time I took my picture. Yes, that's a kilner jar, full of cocoa cola.

The (Not So) Small One was given a cocoa cola making kit LAST Christmas. We got it out of the box and she mixed up her own brew THIS Christmas. There was a lot of it. Gallons, probably. It smells - um, yeasty. It tastes - not bad at all. And that's the truth.

love this idea for a pair - what with staging and good cameras and pixel magic it is so easy to present an image. Cola making sounds lots of fun and I can just imagine the running around to find enough containers.

I've never heard of a coca-cola kit - how cool! Love the depth of field in that top photo - you are clearly mastering your new camera very well.

Love your 'tarted up' top photo....and I never imagined you could make your own coke.

The "tarted up" one shows you are already mastering that new camera. Homemade cola, I would have never thought of that!

You've added some great ideas for the photo pairs. Good to see you joining in and it looks like the cola was a great success!

I've never heard of making your own Coke. I'm not sure I would have had enough jars and bottles---probably just pitchers. Love your photos!!

I have never heard of a coca-cola kit either!!
I think this truth vs tarted will be very popular this year...

Great to see the camera in action. I like the top picture! I'm with you on the bottle issue. I have never made coca cola but I do make Elderflower cordial and never remember to keep bottles ready for it!

I like both photos. Ha ha I usually try to make it look a little better for the blog but sometimes it is more reality which is fine, as it is real life.

Another one who never knew there was such a thing as a cola-making kit!...keep enjoying your camera! Xx

love your take on it. I do often stage a photo, but sometimes unless I take it in it's real environment I'm never going to get around to taking it at all! Interesting....
Yes, I'm with you on not talking about the weather - I'm tired of winter already (not that I want to wish my life away!).
Congrats on the new camera - have fun. T.

Happy New Year Sian. Catching up with you today with your brilliant pairing. It has reminded me of something very similar going on in my house of the holiday. I have my fingers crossed I can make a picture for next weeks pair. Hope your Christmas was everything you had hoped it would be. I'm just hoping I can get myself up together and attend to my poor ole blog. Oh and I didn't know about a coke lit either.

Great depth of field in that first shot...but I love the truth about the second...making your own Cola (yeasty or otherwise) sounds like fun!!

We used to make root beer as you couldn't buy it in the UK. Perhaps you should have got one of those plastic beer brewing kegs for her?
