Scrapbooking With Word Apps

First day back at school, The (Not So) Small One arrived home early.

"Quick!" I said  "I need help with A Beautiful Mess!"

She looked round at all the things I hadn't got done while she out.

"Throw some glitter on it, Mum," she replied. "You're half way there already."

But of course, what I was actually doing was playing around with some word apps on my phone. I've just downloaded A Beautiful Mess and I think I'm going to like it; but my longstanding favourite is Halftone. I've been using it for a couple of years now, ever since I discovered how easily it distracts the eye from a less than stellar photo. Or two. Or three. Halftone uses a comic book effect so it's one I always keep in mind for pages I hope will raise a smile:

There's the option to add a date, too, which can be as useful as any words sometimes. But watch out! It sounds obvious. It is obvious and that means I'm likely to miss it....

....check your spelling before you commit. Or you'll end up printing something like this:

Ack.

I love Halftone for cards too:

Great for personalised messages.

You'll find lots of other word app ideas and tips at Get It Scrapped's new article Photo Apps For Adding Text and Art Overlays

And if you'd like a bargain, you could have a look at Apps Gone Free, as recommended to me by my blogging friend Miriam. Thanks Miriam!

I have A Beautiful Mess and love their blog too but haven't heard of the other app so thanks for the tip. I love the comic style pics and it suits the content of your layout perfectly!

That's a great looking page! I photographed the bookshelves in the Tintin store in Belgium (and was then told I couldn't take photos ...)

really useful post Sian :) I am sat here thinking ABM - oh just like the Elsie blog - then I google and it IS by them :D

Hoping to get a phone soon so have bookmarked that to download when I get it - LOVE your Seuss page.

I've heard of A Beautiful Mess....might have to do more about that....LOOVE your page. Who DOESN'T love Dr S? When my youngest had a really bad start with reading....this Bloke got him back on track. So I'll love him forever....& you've got RIBBON on your page. That's pretty darn impressive!!! LOVE that bow:):):)

I feel soooooo behind the times now [well, I often do] as I still don't have a smartphone.

But as for 'Blue Lemonde' well ... I think you've found your burlesque/stripper name right there ... ;-)

I'll definitely be trying more photo phone apps as well, as I often take less than stellar photos. I can't resist taking pictures in bookstores, shamefully, sometimes of books I plan to buy later (on sale). Oh well, that's not as bad as being in burlesque! ;-) I also love having my Goodreads app on the phone so I can scan books and see if I already have them, and thus not buy a second copy due to bad memory. Perhaps my not-buying and double-buying cancelled each other out.

Super, all of them! I especially like The Tall One photo and caption. I love Halftone too - such fun!

Such FUN ways to play with your photos! I just had to laugh at the (not so) Small One's comment about the glitter.

I use a Beautiful Mess but need to check out the other app you mention as my lot are always playing the fool, so It will probably suit their photos :D

I have apps I just don't know how to use. I use my DSLR probably 75% of the time, and just haven't gotten into the habit of editing my iPhone photos with cool apps. Gotta start! Love the card with the Tall One! (And "just throw glitter on it," is great advice!)

"throw some glitter on it" is probably the best advice I have ever heard. I'm slow to adapt and still learning to take photos with my iPhone. Apps will be my next mountain to climb!

i've seen you use the halftone app, wasn't sure what it was called though. It looks good and suits your style.

I have not tried any of these photo apps yet. I need to put aside a little time to give them a try and play around. I always love what you do!

Ha, I love the photo collage, and the big bow, and the journaling! And the tip about spell checking! I have the beautiful mess app but I tend to use the Rhonna Designs app more often! x

I love the idea of using Halftone for a card. A few friends of mine would appreciate that ;-)
