Can't Complain..

No, I can't complain, can't feel too blue. It looks like all around me is brown instead

I've been resting with my foot up, doing all that sitting down stuff I'd been planning. After all, my Mum has been using a wheelchair for over twenty years now, so I'm not about to start moaning over a few days of immobility. Round here we're very used to leaving things within arm's reach and checking everything is on hand before we go out. It's not really new. The Big Kids have been brilliant: one can drive, one can cook. Sorted. And my favourite Little Kid has promised a visit on Friday.

I've been clicking the needles on another baby blanket (boy colours this time). I've been chewing on some sweetie hot dogs we'd been saving for a special occasion, and crunching on some delicious choc chip cookies The (Not So) Small One has provided. Watching her bake is very calming.

I have books and magazines; and I'd like to thank Lea of A Freeze Frame for sending me some new movie suggestions. She knows that when she urged me to watch Moonnrise Kingdom it turned into a new favourite!

Where do you think you might start, if you were confined to one spot? Which book would you pull from the shelf? (or maybe you'd treat yourself to something new?), which magazine would you ask for? which special treat would you hope might appear? Bet there's a layout in that. Or a blog post, or a journal page. Have a think and let me know. Please. I have plenty of time for reading...

...and I've been loving the Me On Monday posts I've seen popping up. Brilliant.

Glad to hear you are being well looked after xxx
I've just ordered the Mollie Makes photography addition so I'd love to browse through that & also read the book all the teens are talking about - A fault in our stars - John Green, before I see the movie x

Ah, how nice to be taking advantage of the joys of grown up children!

I was just saying last night just how few books I've read this year, compared to last. So if I was sitting in one spot all day, I'd reach for the library books I've already renewed once ... and see if they're really worth reading / renewing again!

But I'd also want to start on 'Great War Fashion': http://www.amazon.co.uk/Great-War-Fashion-History-Wardrobe/dp/0752493485/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1403091566&sr=1-1&keywords=great+war+fashion

.... a book I bought after going to see the live talk/performance by the author last week at the library. And ... I'd probably sit and blog about the talk too ... as I took photos of the original WW1 nurses uniforms!

Sending continued bone-healing thoughts across the sea to you. xx

Take advantage of this time of immobility. Do all the things you don't usually have time for and enjoy it! You'll be back on your feet before you know it.

Sounds like you're being well cared for, Sian. I'm so glad to hear this. :o) My hands are rarely idol while I'm sitting around so I'm sure I'd find something to keep them busy, just like you're doing. xo

My children make me tense when they bake. Maybe when they get older I'll be more relaxed about it.
When I am stuck in one place I have my kindle, which means I have ALL THE BOOKS I could ever want!!!
Just finished a series called Rock Chicks. The books are contemporary romance with a mystery type.

I'm glad to hear you're taking it easy and being well cared for. That cookie look yummy. Hmmm, I'd probably have my kindle, some knitting (swatching right now) and of course my laptop so I can keep up with blog reading. :)

Oh how wonderful to have someone baking cookies for you! I'd definitely have to have a small pile of books & magazines since I'm rarely only reading one thing at a time . . . and a nice cold Coca-Cola . . . and some of Mama's biscuits (my most comforting food)!

Glad you're being well looked after....as long as I had my IPad and some books, I think I could cope for a couple off days!

A driver and a baker....sounds perfect.
I hate sitting 'doing nothing' so I'd be reading....I've got a James Patterson and a Mollie Makes just waiting....and I'd surround myself with knitting and stitching....and a big bag of maltesers!

I would finally finish the series of books I have been reading since February 2013!!! I am on the last one now lol. I would want a copy of Shimelle's new Mollie Makes venture on photography. I would keep Farmville 2 open so I could obsessively tend to my lovely crops and animals (!!! I probably need to stop that one). I would watch the whole of Game Of Thrones from start to finish as I have 5 of the last season to savour yet. Any type of soup and ice cream, perfect bowl food :-)
I hope time is still passing well for you.

Lovely to hear you're being cared for and cooked for and driven around when needs must - clearly much loved, and rightly so :). me? I'd be catching up on all those unfinished online classes lurking in my Bookmarks folder. I might fit in a few volumes of Just William - always a go-to when I need a bit of an escape!

It's good to know that you are being well taken care of. And you're right, there is a separate blog post in the last part of your post.

How lovely to have Big Kids that are also chauffeurs and bakers. I've just started re-reading Maya Angelou's autobiographical novels so they would keep me going for a while and there are always more hexies to sew together. Sending healing thoughts x

Oh, Moonrise Kingdom is so Sian! If you check out Bernice's Gratitude blog, she's offering up a link to get a free online art journal magazine that can help keep you occupied. Here's the link:

Have you watched The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel? It's a lovely film.

It sounds like things are revolving smoothing in the universe of your elevated foot - that's wonderful. If I were in your shoes, or socks?, I'd take the opportunity to finish the 3 books I have in process. Oh make that 4, I forgot the library just notified me of a new one to download. Enjoy your respite!

PS I'd also find a way to scrap with October Afternoon's Public Library collection that I just ordered from steals.com. We both know who enabled me to get those goodies, now don't we?

Good on you taking it easy---although I think you can have those sweets to yourself!!!! I've had a bit of time & decided to buy a couple of scrap mags..... But can't find the ones I want..... Looks like I'll just have to do some Pinterest instead:):)!!!!

It's good that you have so many interests that you can keep busy with pleasurable activities even when confined to a chair! I'd be tackling the long list of books I want to read. I'm in the midst of two of them at the moment, and have another three calling my name.

You poor thing Sian! Glad you're being well looked after and given lots of well-deserved TLC from everyone :) If I was immobile, I'd probably spend lots of time crocheting, reading and scrapbooking - not all that different from what I do when I'm totally mobile I guess!! I'm on a big kick of reading books by Irish authors at the moment - have just finished 'The Spinning Heart' by Donal Ryan.
Hope you feel better soon and take care of yourself xxx

I somehow missed your Monday post! Hope it's not too painful and you seem to be making the best of it - would we expect anything else from you?

Get well soon xx

I would be reaching for my Diana Gabaldon Outlander books that I recently started re-reading and I would get Mr P to bring downstairs my butterfly afghan I am cross-stitching (but have sadly not worked on at all in the last couple of years)

Hellooooo!! Sorry its been so long since I've been around your blog but now I find you with an injury! I'm off to have a browse and find out what happened....

I'm glad you are keeping busy. I read so many books, watched so much telly and crocheted far too many little bows that eventually i had enough of it all. So...i really hope this is a quick recovery for you and it's gets easier to climb those stairs high in the sky x x

It's great you are being well looked after Sian. Having things close to hand is always useful. I had a foot operation and was immobile for a number of weeks. I thought I'd get so much crafting done but I had to have my foot elevated and do regular exercises and very hot-cold foot baths so it didn't quite work as I hoped!

Lizzie said...

Oh dear! I was just having a catch-up session, read a few words on your current post and thought... That doesn't sound good - having a bit longer on crutches, what happened to Sian?
So I had a look and found your Father's Day Foot post... and this one... Poor foot!
But I am glad to hear they are all taking good care of you Sian.
Rest the foot and take it easy - I'm sure you deserve to be cared for for a while, you do so much for everyone else!
I'd be glad to send you a few books, if you want some more reading material. I always have so many books around the place... perhaps some of them might entertain you for a while? Let me know what kind of thing you fancy and I'll see what I can do... (if I have it - I'm not so into murder mysteries or gory stuff I'm afraid, so if that's your favourite, you'll be disappointed!)

OK, I'm all out of sequence--the product of a 10-day vacation and lots of before & after prep/catch up at work. I'm sure if I read back far enough I would find the reason for your lay-up (plus I'm gathering from more recent posts that all is well), but it is still fun to comment.

My husband is retired, so he would be generally available to fetch anything I managed to forget. Other than that, a solid Wi-Fi/cellular connection & my iPad are nearly all I would need.

- Feedly--my connection with my blogging friends
- Amazon.com--check! Who knows what might need to be ordered?
- Barnes & Noble--absolutely! (I'm working my way through the "Outlander" series)

So, despite my uninformed situation, I hope you are fully recovered from whatever ailed you.
