"I can hardly believe that it's two years since the school trip to Paris," said The (Not So) Small One as she rifled through a little stack of pictures on my desk.
It's true. that Paris pile has been sitting there since she came back. Oh, she was so excited to show me her photos!
She had made such a good job of recording lots of little details - the high railings, the low windows, fast food, slow traffic, exploding suitcases, snaking queues: all of it, all mixed in with a happy succession of smiling selfies. Makes me laugh, now, to think of the one roll of film I took with me on my school trip years ago. Two photos a day I think I stuck to. So, when I started to look back and realise that we still had lots of printed out pictures (even after the late night hurry-up-and-get-that-homework-project-finished-up-and-handed-in thing), I decided to make a page to record the art of snapping Paris.
...and just as I was planning it, Get It Scrapped started talking about pages designed with three columns. Columns? Eiffel Tower? That sounded like a plan.
I thought a column design would be perfect. It took a bit of working at in the end, though. I like arranging things in grids and squares; and I thought this would be a similar kind of process. But truthfully? I found it more of a challenge. My columns wouldn't stack up! At last, I found it worked if I started in the middle, building from the top of the page down, and, once that was done, adding the left and right sides. I'm kind of interested in the discovery that this particular page design doesn't seem to want to work for me. I might have to make another one, work it through, see what I'm missing..
And the best place to start is probably - yes- over at Get It Scrapped

Just lovely Sian - I like how the doily/cluster at the top seems to 'hold' the columns together.
The colours are delicious - and how nice to have your own personal photographer to send out to snap the world for you! x
It's a really lovely layout. I think I would struggle with layouts, I tend to like everything in the middle or over to the right :s
I think you totally rocked it. You will have to try it again and see how it goes. I love the white space and the different column widths.
Well what you've made certainly works for me,Sian....I love it....and your little clusters of embellishments finish it off perfectly.
Love the composition and all of the little embellishments. The colours seem very Parisian chic as well!
It looks great Sian...and I can't believe it was almost two years ago either!

It might have been a challenge, but the result is truly lovely!
Love the journalling ... and your post's words too. How profligate with photos we have become ... and ultimately how careless as the really good snaps can get lost underneath the mountain of others. Loving the dots of colour against the elegant ... taupe?
Love the colour scheme of this, and an original idea to use 3 columns. You always come up with some great designs.
I love pages with grids and columns but struggle with your minimalist style usually. Interesting point in the post - how we now take so many photos is something I've been pondering about - after listening to the last Give Your Photos Stories podcast.
Every time you post a LO it becomes my favourite! This is just beautiful Sian. I noticed the top and bottom doily first.
Great layout! I love all the embellishments you used. I usually start with a 3x3 grid plan when I do a layout, start in the center and then work around, though admittedly most of my stuff stays centered in the middle column, though I might shift it slightly offside.
OK, so I am struggling to understand how it hasn't worked for you, Sian - it looks just perfect to me@ Soft colours, vintage-y look, things clustered together ... Sigh of envy here :).
You just do the detail so very very well
Oh I love this! You did such a great job and I adore the subtle colours. Just fabulous!
Just perfect Sian. I like the clean design, the pops of colour, oh everything!
This turned out perfectly lovely, despite the difficulty of this format for you!
you would never know your gorgeous page was a challenge for you. I saw it on pinterest first and have only now got across here to have a read and a closer look. All the detail is wonderful Sian x a lovely reminder for TSO x x
Great page (love the embellies) and the 3 column structure really worked for it.

It's beautiful! I quite like everything about it. It's been quite some time since I created a vertical page. You have given me some ideas :)
I think its lovely to capture memories of other people's memory keeping too!
This is such a fun page, Sian! Love all your sweet little details.
And here's another post where I'd swear that I'd already left a comment ...
I love the look of this layout; super effective and decidedly simple to construct. May well have to scraplift.
The columns look good to me! As does the little bike wood veneer at the bottom of the page.
I would love to go back to Paris actually with a camera this time, I don't think I took one on my school trip. Or the photos were lost somewhere. I think me and hubby are long overdue a romantic trip there anyway :-)
It's a beautiful page despite, or probably because of, the struggle. There's a lot to see, but it's still easy to make one's way through it all. I like the interest and bits of color the embellishments add.
It looks great Sian. Two years? It sure doesn't seem like that. Have you tried the column thing again? How did it work out? Any better?
