Greetings From Gatsby

I think I was born in the wrong time. I was meant to shingle my hair and put on my pearls and dance all night. I can't wait to go and see The Great Gatsby.

There are some gorgeous boards full of Gatsby glamour on Pinterest at the moment: I've been having a browse whenever I get the chance. And I've been inspired to take the look and turn it into a couple of cards. There's a line or two I love, not from Gatsby, but from an F. Scott Fitzgerald collection of short stories called Flappers and Philosophers...

I made it into this

Great Gatsby card by Sian from From High in the Sky

and then I did this

Great Gatsby card by Sian from From High in the Sky

The prompt for the 52 card challenge this week was The Printed Word. Covered that one, then. And yet, I'd like to do more. I'd like to do a fabulous story. How about you?

Great cards---as usual. But the bigger question to me---is---has The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio been released in the UK? If so, you will love it! I'm going for the second time today.

I do plan to see the film as soon as possible too.
Great cards as always Sian particularly the stamped word one, it must have taken patience & a steady hand x

Lovely cards, can't choose between them for a favourite.
Am trying to convince my husband that he will enjoy the Great Gatsby film - I just hope it's as good as the Robert Redford one I saw several times in the 70s!

Very pretty cards, Sian - nicely elegant and one of my favourite colours :). I remember the Robert Redford version - sigh!

Oh I really like the quote! The cards are lovely too!

I love that quote Sian and especially the way you have stamped it on the second card.

Both so different and stunning in their own way

I haven't had a chance to see it and will probably have to wait until it comes out on TV. You will have to let us all know what you think of the movie. I have one friend who was very disappointed but she is very particular about books turned into movies, while I consider them to be two different things. Prevents any possible disappointment when I do that.

That first one is stunning! The quote would be perfect with so many of the Gatsby-era stamps I have.

I like both cards but the second one is my favourite, the printed word background just adds something to it. Hope you enjoy the film. Showed the kids a photo of their great-grandma Carolyn (owner of the cradle) as a flapper and they were shocked to realise she'd once been young ;)

Lovely cards ... and I've learnt a new word ... I had no idea "shingle" was a way of doing your hair!

Like Jemma, I didn't know you could 'shingle' your hair...fab cards, Sian and I love the quote!

Absolutely gorgeous cards!

I haven't read Gatsby in years so wanted to re-read it before the movie . . . only to discover we don't have a copy. Will have to remedy that this week & have a quick read. (We, of course, have already seen Star Trek & Iron Man 3! LOL)

That's a fantastic quote! I'm feeling the need to go and look on Pinterest now!

Both cards are, not surprisingly, gorgeous, but I must admit a preference for the second one. I think I like the visual contrast between the grittiness of the background paper and focal text you used and softness of the butterfly cluster you added to the page. Very nice!

As far as a fabulous story is concerned, Storytelling Sunday is just around the corner and we know that will be filled with all manner of fabulous stories!

Wow, Sian, these are gorgeous cards. It's fun to see your style, but with a little different twist. Love the colors and the sweet elegance in your work. Just lovely.

I'm really looking forward to the movie, for two reasons. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I like Baz Lurhman's interpretations .. sometimes over the top but also very creative and stylistic.

Lovely cards - especially the glitz of the first. Daughter and I hope to see the movie very soon.

Oh I so love these Sian! I may have to write that line down. Devon is tremendously excited at the thought of the new film. She says her English teacher used the Leonardo Romeo & Juliet film to help with their Shakespeare and has no doubt he will use this new film when they do The Great Gatsby next year - she loves all those type of films.

Wow, really great cards. So original!

It is definitely a period I can imagine you living comfortably in :) Great cards

Apologies for the lack of comments of late... life has been....err tricky!

Gatsby ... you'll love it.

Very well done! Love the idea of putting a book quote on the front of a card! I have to try doing this too!

Mmmm, both gorgeous and make me want to get up and make glamorous cards all afternoon.

The thing with the film is... How can it compare with the old version. Robert Redford was so fantastic back then - and was it Mia Farrow? I remember being entranced and ran home to read the book - way back in the day. I suspect I'd be disappointed! One for a DVD evening maybe.

But your elegant cards most certainly set the scene.

Beautiful cards Sian! I especially love the first one. Guess I'm going to have to wait till it comes out on dvd as there is no way J will want to go to it and I'm just not into going to the movies by myself. :) PS I'm one of those who remember the Robert Redford one too.
