Another Man's Treasure..for Sketchbook365

It's my turn this month again to have Sketchbook365 create a sketch from one of my pages. Thanks 365!

This time round it's taken from a layout I made for an article in the "Viewpoint" series - on scrapbooking from an unusual point of view (almost said "angle" there: but scrapbooking from an unusual angle? sounds a bit extreme). My point of view? A dream - of a house to decorate, all of my own. a fantasy page, which you can find in this month's Scrap365

Sian Fair for Sketchbook365

When I saw the sketch, I decided to have another go at the same design and this is what I came up with. I wasn't ready to let go of the house theme just yet: this one is about the bits of treasure I find when I go poking around at my Mum's. Every visit, lately, I seem to have found something to bring from her house to ours. In local terms it's called "pruch" and you can say it with as much spit as you want to. It simply means "lucky treasure" - maybe from an attic or a car boot sale or even a bin - anything you fancy holding on to when someone else wants to throw it away. My pruch a couple of Sundays ago included:

- Ronan the Donkey, who always seems to travel with James the Falorie Man (from Storytelling Sunday), so he had to come home. he is felt, very lovely and made by my Mum many years ago.

- a hand puppet I started when I was about ten, obviously with quite a lot of Mum's help, by the look of that face.

- a treasured Christmas present: my "Slideorama" which required darkness (the cloakroom) and many, many batteries before it would work.

- a newspaper announcing the death of George VI. This is the ultimate pruch in that it wasn't ours to start with: a visitor left it with my Mum because she thought we might be interested. Of course we're interested.

Here's the sketch:

There are some lovely, different interpretations by the Design Team on the Sketchbook365 blog and a great prize from our High in the Sky good friend A Sprinkle of Imagination. You have until April 19th to add yours to the linky: and I'd love to see some from all you sketch lovers out there. Best of luck! Someone has to win and you can enter from anywhere in the world....

A great idea for a LO! Looks like some good treasure here. I went through the same phase with my mom years ago. Every time I went over she had things for me to take home. Your puppet is very cute!

Lovely layout, but I most enjoyed seeing the pruch you picked up on your last visit - how fun!

I just might have to give that sketch a try if I can get my lesson plans out of the way early tomorrow! :>)

You brought back memories with the picture of that slide projector. I had one as a kid and I remember sitting on a darkened staircase watching the slides on a closed door with my sisters and cousins.

I really like your page design and the story it tells. Great title. In our house, these sort of treasures were known as 'twiddly bits' but I love the word 'pruch'. I may have to introduce it to my grandchildren. I am sure they can say it with all the feeling it deserves.

Oh, we had a slideorama too! I had forgotten all about it. I seem to remember it needed really big batteries. They slid in at the bottom and it was quite heavy to carry. We used to close all the doors in the corridor, sit at one end and project onto the white door at the other end. Happy days!

I love your interpretation of the sketch---and the machine stitching---nice touch. But, mostly, I love the theme of the page. I wish I had a place to poke around and find some fun, old stuff! Do share with us how you decide to use it in your home.

Cute pruches. Did you mean local as in area local or family local? I´ll be scribbling on my dictionary. ;)

Oh I like having a word for it! Love the layout and the items you came home with.
I think you've given me an idea with that sketch I just might have to come up with something.

I had never heard of "pruch" before, but it's obvious you found some true treasures. And it seems you've given the gift of pruch to lots of scrappers who will enjoy a bit of treasure from you.

Interesting sketch! Maybe I could use my new bowl as my next precious and my pruch!

That is one of those words that fit what it means I think. We for sure do not have anything like it here in the States...Do you have a little shelf for all your treasures? Mine is chock full myself. I just put a little hand painted ceramic kitty on mine tonight and asked my daughter if it was OK that he sat next to the ceramic dog...or would they fight?

I'll have to give that sketch a whirl. FOUR photos is perfect for Peru tales!
