Hot:
- My new raskog trolley from Ikea. I should really be taking it upstairs and filling it with supplies. Instead The (Not So) Small One and I are stuffing it with snacks and pushing it round the kitchen, asking each other if we want "anything from the trolley". I always thought being an air hostess would be nice; but only if the uniform included good hats.
- A weekend visit from our friend who lives in San Diego. His wife had given him a shopping list for the Cath Kidson shop in town. "Are you sure you don't mind coming with me, Sian?" he asked, in his innocence.
A casual, piled up page to reflect the way you'd find me on a grey Saturday in January - on the sofa with a stack of magazines and sewing and other things I love. The tag with the tree is a clothing label from about four years ago and most of the other pieces are from an old Midnight Rooster kit (including the top of the little paper bag the embellishments came in), The photo comes from a month-by-month "things to do" book I had as a child - I made a layout about it here |
- A boy in a dinner jacket. But there'll be more on that in February. So far he only has plans for the Formal, which is on Valentines Day. But his plans are good..
- Three Ginger Cakes for the price of two in Sainsburys. A small pleasure, but one worth enjoying
- A new Craft Shop opening close by, and with a big workspace. Maybe it will be a chance to meet some fellow scrappers
- It's National Storytelling Week this week, run here in the UK by the Society For Storytelling which exists to promote our oral storytelling tradition. It's funny: when I'm planning Storytelling Sunday, I never think of us all typing or scribbling - I imagine us sitting round the kitchen table, talking, properly telling the stories. I try to hear your voice every time I read a post and I try to make you feel as if you can hear mine. I learned about reading out loud at Library School (can you imagine? actual lessons on the best way to hold a book so that everyone could see the pictures? It was my favourite time of the week) and I can recommend the resources on this site if you are interested in making your voice heard!
And not hot?
- The (Not So) Small One's Big Bang calendar getting lost in the post. it's alright really. She doesn't need it. She can quote Sheldon perfectly well without it.
- Dried up Paint Dabbers. hardly the end of the world, but still..
- The top of the house. Not hot. It's freezing. We have a smoke safety window which has jammed itself open and we've been waiting for over a week for someone to come and fix it..
But now. let's move on to February - and Storytelling Sunday this weekend. We had lots of new participants last time round and I'm very much hoping that they'll all be back to join in again this month. Along with all of the rest of you! So, Pick your Precious - find something you love and write about it - and we'll see you on Sunday? More information here if you are new to the whole idea - and if you are new, you're very welcome.

A lovely eclectic LO & I can see all you described in it!! We're big Big Bang Theory fans in this house & in fact, Alex is so like Sheldon in thought, deed, reasoning & speech, it's uncanny!! :D
Loving the layered look to your Lo Sian x
I've purchased one of those Ikea trolleys but am still debating what to store in it ! maybe snacks are the answer !!
I was playing (and coveting) the trolley on a visit to IKEA on Monday. Love the layout and the idea for a roundup
Everyone is getting one of those trolleys! I feel left out!
I really can't understand why you would ever want to go to a Cath Kidson shop!!!!!!
These trollies sound interesting.I love the layering of your layout and the colours are beautiful x
Ouch to a £300 bill but LOL to the trolley dollies in your kitchen! Great way to use up scraps with all that ecclectic layering.
You do such great clusters. They always have interesting items tucked into them. Sorry the (Not So) Small One's calendar got lost in the mail. Big Bang Theory is my must see show. Surprisingly, Sheldon is not my favorite character--Amy is. One day she's going to pin Sheldon down and have her way with him.
I am loving your layout about Jan...I think I might do one, hope you don't mind. I have been deliberating those Project Life kinda thing but daily recording brings me out in rashes...your idea is more achievable for me. And I don't even need photos!
Love the soft colours in this. Reminds me of a snuggly warm jumper I used to have
Great layout Sian! We are Big Bang fans here too... hope the NSSO's calendar eventually shows up.
Oh I do love Big Bang Theory! The characters are all so good and the current story line with Sheldon and Amy is hilarious. The time he looked after her while she was sick literally made me laugh out loud!
Love your round up of January and hope that either your part of the world has a sudden unexpected heatwave (unlikely) or the company come and fix that window very soon.
Ha ha, can imagine you with your trolley:) lots of nice things happening, hope feb is just as good. Ooh! and a craft shop opening.....now that is something to celebrate.
oooh a new craft shop!! they might need a tea trolley lady when it opens :) Loving all the layers on your page!
So excited for SS. Looking forward to that tale of a boy in a dinner jacket too!
I do so love storytelling & would enjoy a class on how to read out loud most effectively. I don't have a Precious item for my story this month, but I do have a good story all ready & set to post on Sunday.
I really like all the little items piled on your page.
A really fun post to read and love your scrappy Lo to go along with it. Waaahhh to the Big Bang calendar lost. Be brave Not so Small One.
If I had a Big Bnag calendar I would also be sad to lose it no matter how much Sheldon I know. Love this series, Amy having Vicks rubbed on her chest has to be the best scene ever.

I am very excited for you at the thought of a new craft shop! Great layout too...see you on Sunday!
Alison xx
I love the colours in this and the textured ruffled edges - you do this feel and look so well. Sorry to hear about the freeze upstairs - no wonder you're in the kitchen with the trolley! Will be missing contributing to Sunday but look forward to popping in here to read all the wonderful stories.
I really enjoy your lists... And the pages that go with them. The random tidbits on the layout are perfect. I didn't know you had friends in San Diego! Does that mean I have a slight chance of actually meeting you over a cup of tea? Oh I hope you would let me know if you came my way! :D
Ah, I hear you about Project Life! I feel so "uncool" for not doing it these days but I can't imagine myself doing it either! I agree that this is a great alternative!
Love your layout and the idea of doing something like that for each month. You're so lucky having a new craft shop to explore, seems they're all closing here. See you tomorrow, I've got my story all planned - now to write it. :)
I love the idea of teaching how to hold the picture book - it is a skill. I once found myself reading a story to most of a train carriage...
Looking forward to STS, already done my research, processed my photos and am looking forward to a cup of coffee and some quiet time tomorrow to 'hear' all the stories.
Oh and paint dabbers - I empathise. Mine were dry last time I tried and I suspect the extra months won't have helped :sigh:
Great layout, I love the what's hot list :)
Great looking layout!
I hope they come and fix your window soon!
Lovely layout - and I'm typing this (telling you this?) while snuggled on my sofa, laptop on lap, surrounded by stacks of things: notebook and pen, camera, cosy blanket, several books and magazines, knitting... So I can very much relate to the sentiment! :)
Yay to reciting Sheldon :) ... I have a husband that does that lol. Great round up to a month
Really like the softness of the layout. Having your boy in a dinner jacket gives mamas a lump in the throat, it's a glimpse at how quickly he will be a man.
Brrr! I hope they've gotten there by now. What a good idea for a layout, and well done as always. I wish a new craft shop would open here. We've lost all our independent ones.
I rather want a raskog trolley for myself! Sounds like you've been having fun with it!
We love Big Bang too. What a shame it got lost in the post. If she can quote it perhaps she could make her own Big Bang calendar?!
Mmm... ginger cake! x
