This Summer The (Not) So Small One and I bought new swimsuits for our holidays: age appropriate for me and a most excellent two piece for the teenager. I thought she looked fabulous; and she must have been pretty pleased with the effect herself because she let me take photos. They're all safely tucked away in the album and I have chosen a simple picture of her face for this layout:
Because sometimes I like to make pages with clues; pages where the story isn't obvious to everyone right on first glance. It's there in hints and references; and, if you lift the flap, you'll find the words.
A Jenni Bowlin rub on which is at least three years old. Some of the first ones I bought have lost their "rub" but not the JBS ones. They still go on perfectly. |
It's a page between us: the girl in the excellent bikini and her Mum who took the pictures. No, maybe it won't mean much to everyone else. But maybe that doesn't always matter when it's for a personal album.
I used one of my tracing paper butterflies here |
Maybe sometimes a little trigger (the colours, the shapes copied from those on the suit, the wet hair, straight from the pool) to get the personal memories going is simply enough. Swimsuits are pretty personal things, after all. Aren't they?
Lift the washi tape flap and you will find some words. I put the typewriter in as a clue |

Yes, to all of that :) I totally agree that sometimes it's more fun, or more appropriate, to not have the full story there in an obvious way. This page will be extra special to you and to T(NS)SO as a result. And it's a lovely page to boot! x
looks like a fun, personal page!
What a lovely shot of T(NS)SO :o)
As for the LO....butterflies, hearts, doilies and vintage typewriters, what's not to like?
I'm afraid I'm a very blunt scrapper - or plain lazy - the whole lot is laid bare for me!
Gorgeous delicate page Sian, beautiful accents and a lovely warm feel throughout.
Very occasionally I hide the journaling....perfect for a very personal page.
You could also have hidden a bikini shot on the page as well.
Beautiful details as always. I love the Washi tape as a flap holder, and the tracing paper butterfly is especially lovely. I often have hidden journaling, but usually it's because I have too much to say for the layout itself.
This is gorgeous & what a stunner TNSSO is! I love the colours & the delicate feel of this one..the tracing paper butterfly is perfect! I'm not one for hidden journaling myself...it frustrates me that the LO has to be pulled out of its protector for the journaling to be read! The only time I've incorporated it has been by way of a pocket & pull tab at the top of the page! :D
How lovely both the LO and the hidden parts of the page.
Your tracing paper butterfly is beautiful, thanks for the close-up as I missed it on first look at the overall page. So delicate!
Such a clever idea for hidden words in a personal page.
Love that tracing paper butterfly too!
I think there is nothing lovelier than a sweet teenager, with a great body, wearing a bikini. Of course, it is pure envy on my part that I can no longer wear something like that! You did a beautiful layout for your daughter. When I think the journaling is too personal for public viewing, I often hide it in some way.
Love the washi hinge and that photo - very enigmatic.
This is a beautiful page, and I think you were right to keep it subtle on this occasion
a beautiful layout Sian and i especially like your photo of tnsmo.
smart, smart, smart... I knew you were. Love the scattering of embellishments and choice of photo :)
A great way to hide the journaling. The effect is beautiful :) x
Lovely detail on your page and what a beautiful photo, Sian. I love the typewriter that conceals journalling.
yes swimsuits are very personable...
Great post, I leave clues too, just didn't know that was what I was doing!
Great layout! Love the hidden journaling.
Just awesome - everything about it.
What a lovely page, thecolours themselves evoke summer/swimming and the wet hair too. I loved your comment about 'age appropriate'! x
A very pretty, delicate page - making the reader work is always more intriguing! I especially like your 'so' and the butterfly - the slightly faded antique look is such a great contrast to the purity of that young skin. May she never know a wrinkle!
Lovely page Sian....and I do like a bit of hidden journaling now and then!

I love the softness of the photo and how that is carried out on the layout. Very pretty!
What a beautiful personal layout!
That is a great page and a beautiful picture, I love the idea of little clues to hidden jornalling.
Doesn't tape make a great hinge? I do like hiding journaling and personal pages. Lovely details as always. Those tracing paper butterflies are sweet.
What a lovely personal page. It's so nice and soft looking. I like how you've dropped a clue as to where the journaling is.
