Sometimes, after Storytelling Sunday, I think - I should have made a page about that. And sometimes I actually get round to doing it:
This is the only photo we have of the Thomas Train Triumph; but at least that means I don't have to think about how to get more pictures on my page. Despite my best efforts to change, I'm still a one photo kind of girl. I always have been. I think it goes right back to the beginning, when I found a stack of 6x4 photos in a folder, and I took one , and I stuck it on a page. The main draw now, for me, is that working with one picture over a couple of hours gives me a chance to really look at it, really take in the little details and remember the things I'd missed. On this one I remembered:
- that crazy flower patterned fleece she is wearing, which we bought while on holiday in Edinburgh. It replaced one we'd bought in the same shop a couple of years earlier. One with a big red heart on the front and a pair of ears sewn into the hood. Everyone loved it.
- the little girl standing next to her. Who travelled for miles every day and, at the end of that first year, decided it was just too far. She changed schools and we never saw her again.
- the train driver cap which was popular with every kid who visited; but not with its original owner, because, even in those days, his hair was too big for a hat
- and Thomas himself. We used the same cardboard box idea again to make Robot Wars robot costumes for a family party. Robot Wars was very popular in our house for many years..
..and so it goes on. That's what happens when I start with one photo and spend a bit of time with it.
The brightly coloured papers here are a move away from the paler pages I've been making lately. Almost everything came in a kit from Citrus Twist - what about those crazy shaped flowers? I cut those from a piece of Prima paper which seemed to suit.
The red washi tape was in there too, so I used it to create a flap with my photo
In the end a different part of the story came out in my journaling, so it looks as if I'll be printing out the full Storytelling Sunday version and sticking it to the back of my layout. That's one post preserved - if, like me, you are starting to wonder about keeping the rest, you could have a look at the simple instructions from Blog Guidebook on how to back up your blog. I think it's definitely worth it, don't you?

Hello, I haven't been here for awhile. Love your bright, bold page and I think I'll have to go back and read your Sunday Story.
Hi Sian Just got around to replying to your previous post. Yes, I was a reader for a year before I took the plunge and realised what a friendly bunch bloggers are.
You have made a great page around your SS. The colours really suit the occasion. I particularly like all the layering under the photograph especially the alphabetised paper. Such a cute photograph.
Wow, love the 'whalefin' chevron paper, great layout.
I have just downloaded my blog, thanks for the tip :)
Whoa! Those bright colours woke me up this morning:) Robot wars, oh yes we loved that too. Have you ever seen the Big Bang episode where they do Robot wars? Great stuff:) lovely, fun and bright.....just how I like it:)
There is is again - the reason why we love this hobby so much - how one photo can evoke so many memories.
Love the bright colours of this page.
So very bright and zingy, I love it :o) It's amazing what spending a bit of time with a photo can bring forth from the archives of our minds xx
So glad to start my day off with a bit of alliteration followed by a pop of color. But just imagine my surprise if you had done a two photo layout with those bright zany colors. Best to take this things slowly, one at a time, I suspect.
I'm so glad you did make that layout, and shared it with us :) And thank you for the extra snippets of story, too - I love memory trails! x
I love this bright clourful LO! So beautiful, thx for the tip :)
So glad you got that story scrapped Sian! And thanks for the link - i've bookmarked it for future reference.
It must be the month for it Sian, I just scrapped this month's story too.
Super layout, love your hidden journalling!
That is a lovely, bright colourful page.
I normally only use one photo too and it's amazing the amount of things that you remember, things that maybe aren't even in the photo!
Its funny how things abut a photo change after you think you've told "the story".
I've never thought about printing out a blog post for a layout - but its a really good idea. I am a two or three photo kinda girl, too much detail is needed for one photo!
such a cute photo definitely deserves its own page! i like how you made a mini-book with the photo and the journaling. a single photo can evokes so many thoughts and memories, can't it?!
I like putting the blog post on the back and putting a different angle/twist on the front. Hope the bits you've blogged here get on there too - always fun to have those details.
Scrapheap challenge was popular here for years, robot wars not quite so much - not enough engineering I suspect.
I often stick stories on the back of my pages......mainly because I frequently don't leave enough room on the actual page!!!
Wonderful how many memories come back from just one photo - you could have made a whole book here! I love your bright page and, of course, the flap - such a great way to journal! That Special Delivery sticker is a stroke of genius too. :)
so that was a fun LO and I love how the story telling altered. sometimes it happens like that doesn't it,
Jo xxx
That's a lovely layout. Thanks for the reminder to back up my blog. I haven't done it in at least a year. I'd be very sad if I lost everything.
I've made a couple of pages from SS posts, but not as many as I'd like. What I really must do is convert the blog into a photobook, I have been meaning too for a while but the number of posts intimidates me ... well, it'll only be more if I don't hurry up!
Ooo, love this bright page, it looks fantastic and so happy! The washi tape flap is a fabulous idea. x
I agree that a single photo can evoke several memories. Although I usually scrapbook a number of photos, a single photo doesn't hold me back. For me, it's all about the story. I'll tell the story with one photo, or 10!
I love how one moment in time can carry us through so many memories :) Thanks the backup reminder. Like Amy I have thought of doing the posts into a book but haven't gotten around to...500+ posts is intimadating.
Single photo layouts are still a favorite of mine. I love all the reflecting you did while you scrapped this one. I've been thinking about doing a Blurb book from blog posts for years now. It just gets more overwhelming, and I know I'll only want to include some of the posts. Thanks for the link. The bright colors of this layout are perfect for the photo!
I rarely do one photo layouts, but you may be about to convince me!
Rinda
WOW what a page - perfect for the bright photo. I agree that spending time with photos stimulates the memory cells - and now you have a (nother) lovely page to boot!
Love how your photo has bought back several memories. I am not normally a 1 photo per page, the more photos the better for me. But you've inspired me to get out an older photo and remember....
I do love your layouts Sian! The orange pattern is so fun and bright, perfect with the piccy!
Take care, Estelle xx
This LO is pure perfection!!...& thanks everso for the link to 'Blog Guide' much appreciated!! :D
What a beautiful page and back story to the picture and your Sunday Story! So many stories to tell and scrap. It gets a bit overwhelming sometimes.
Love the vibrancy of this and how you have used a busy background so successfully. The hidden journaling is wonderful and I love all of the layers!
This is lovely! Love the background to it!
I find it really hard now to have more than one photo on a layout. I have only made one layout of my STS, but I have always wanted to do more and love what you have made here in this layout with the bright colors :)
Thanks for the link!
