Hands up: who here likes sketches? Actually, that's a trick question because I already know lots of you do. I have one for you today! Over at Sketchbook365 a layout of mine has been turned into a sketch for the October challenge.
It's already been a pleasure to see how the Sketchbook designers have interpreted my page - now I'd love to see what all you sketchy experts do with it.
My original page can be found on page 54 of October's Scrap365; but I thought I'd have another go and I came up with this:
I called it The Curious Incident of the Birds in the Gift Shop, which I now think is probably unfair. They aren't curious, they're remarkable and I like them both very much. But what was curious? the number of other shoppers snapping photos of the displays. I thought I was the only tourist who did that..
So, that's mine. Now, let's see yours! This is the sketch:
and you will find all the details on the Sketchbook365 blog right here. Every month I visit the entries and I'm blown away by the variety of pages - and they come in from all over the world! Please don't think that you have to be in the UK to do this. There is a very pretty prize on offer from Creative Craft World and you have a month to link up your entry. It's worth a go! You could -
- replace the squares with a different shape
- take away the frames or use mats instead
- make it all smaller and really work that white space
- turn it vertically and let the whole block sit on one side of your page
- go digital! This I'd love to see..
- take away some embellishments and go really clean and simple
..but, what am I saying? You're the experts! let's see it whatever way you fancy..
psst..don't forget you can still enter the Flair For Buttons giveaway here. I'll announce the winners on Tuesday next.

I remember those shots and thinking "I'm glad I'm not the only one who takes photos of displays" :)
Lovely sketch - hmmm October's 365 huh? Well I might get time in October!
I snapped a photo of a lovely christmas display in a shop last year....and got some quite menacing looks from their security....I'm not quite sure what they thought I was doing!!
Love your page....and this sketch.
love the sketch and layout, will try and have a go later!
Love your layout and the title is great going to print off that sketch and certainly have a go.
I had to laugh when I went to Camden Market with my sister recently and there are these menacing signs everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE stating no photos allowed of the merchandise. I'm not surprised really as most of it was blatant rip offs. Wouldn't want themselves slapped with a lawsuits now would they! Funnily enough - the stuff that looked completely original and quirky had no such signs. hmmm.
Love the way they have interpreted your page :D And I still love those birdies!
That's a lovely page and story and I like the white space.
I hold my hands up to taking photos of some very strange things sometimes. It's only lately some people have started to ask what I am doing. Perhaps they are suspicious and think I am going to complain (like a goal post in the hospital grounds, and our mobile library). But they usually seem pleased when I explain my motive.
I'm not someone who uses layouts as a rule, but do like a challenge so may just try your ideas out.
As always an interesting post.
Oh, I like this very much, Sian. Your own colourway is very clean and elegant and I love the way you've simplified the design. You are, of course, sending me a challenge with your 'go digital' remark!
What a lovely challenge! I certainly have lots of photos that need to be scrapped, so I've bookmarked this sketch. I love to take photos of shop displays. I've learned to ask however, as not all shop keepers are happy with the idea. I've even found a couple of shops who posted a "no photos allowed" sign.
Lovely - I'm a great admirer of your paper feathers.
Of course my hand went up right away! I have a friend coming over to scrap tomorrow, and I'm thinking we may just have to try out this sketch!
That is terrific that they used one of your LO's for a sketch! A terrific sketch and I love your take on it as well as the title. I always struggle with small photos on a LO and usually only use one photo. It is something that I am trying to get away from so who knows, maybe I'll give this one a go! :)
I book marked this, too. What I really like about this is that it is its own mini tutorial about how to use embellishments in a fun, quirkly, sian-like style. Love it!
Rinda
Sweet layout and a lovely sketch. I love the bunting on it!
Another fab page - and a quirky memory captured beautifully.
I hadn;t spotted that the new sketch was from one of your pages but I loved it already!
such a beautiful layout....i love the sketch, will have to find some time to join in x
I actually went looking for a sketch this morning - and sorry I didn't find this one. It would have been quite the challenge for me. I tend to use sketches with fewer elements - the other ones scare me ;-)
Love what you have done with it. And I will attempt the sketch one of these days.
Hav a great weekend/ hav en god weekend!
Now, you know I love a good sketch & when I saw it was one of yours up for the October Challenge I immediately wrote it in my Scrap-diary as a 'to do' item!! Love your original & this new interpretation too! (Did you know there is a movie of 'The curious incident of the dog in the nightime' being released soon?) :D
Love it, Sian - so fresh and pretty! I haven't scrapped a layout in ages, perhaps I will in October once LSNED is done?
Since I always have my little camera with me, I often taken photos of recipes in cookbooks. I like that one particular recipe but have no intention of buying the cookbook. So far, no security has every accosted me. I'll see what I can do with your lovely sketch in digital.
Love the sketch, I love sketches.
Superb title!
Oh I just LOVE your layout, Sian, and the sketch is so nice. It's been such a long time since I actually created a scrapbook layout - might have to give this one a go this weekend while I'm working on Project Life.
Love your layout Sian and what a great idea of them making a sketch out of it. I might jst haveto clear away the scrapping table.
The muted tones in this layout are so lovely - funnily enough, because I have used RadLad, I can see how your photo treatment suits or is adapted to the colours in your layouts - they really suit your style.
Oh wow - I love your take on the sketch! SOOO inspiring! Absolutely brilliant. Have a lovely weekend! xo
Another gorgeous page, Sian. Now you have set a challenge - go digital - when I have just seen some lovely digi stuff on paisley press! Love the lace.
Interesting sketch. I've been looking for some inspiration to use & will give it a try
Congrats on having your layout converted to a sketch. I visited and enjoyed seeing what the designers had done. Each one different and interesting in its own right...
Definitely going to be giving this a go this week. I always love to see how differently everyone interprets the sketches.
Me, me, me, Miss, I love sketches! :D
Taking notes on your challenge. :)
I am a follower of the Scrap365 sketch blog and I love the sketches they have to offer. This one is no exception and I really hope to be able to play with it! I love the monochromatic look of your page!
