Photo 365+1

..and it's back. At long last my phone is doing what it's supposed to and I'm collecting Hipstamatic 365 pictures again.

I like this set. They were all taken on one drive out into the country; and they have me thinking about a whole new project. I've been passing these sights for years, always promising myself I'll bring a camera next time. Well. no more excuses. I'm going to bring the camera. I'm going to do more "roadside" photography. More pictures of the trips I make all the time, before everything I see disappears for good.

Roadside - a favourite landmark of mine. The old Texaco sign.

Reaching up - what's left of a windmill. A very unusual sight in these parts

In the distance - a ruined cottage, high up on a hill

Gates - no, not the nicest gates I've ever seen; but so very typical of the agricultural landscape round here. Plus, I think that green path promises a lot.

Vintage - an old coke sign on what used to be a fish and chip shop in what looks like an old Nissan hut. It's for sale now, for development, so I'm guessing the sign won't be there for much longer...

..and that's the push I needed. Buildings disappear all the time. The landscape of our journeys changes. I'm going to get out there and record it.

What a great project Sian. Things do change so quickly. When I first moved to Half Moon Bay (over 20 years ago), I bought a print of a painting of downtown. Sometimes I look at it now, and I'm amazed by the changes.

I have the same thoughts about a particular drive I frequently take. However, hurtling along on a highway for most of the way and always having two travelling companions who don't often sit nicely for the long four hour drive stops me in my tracks quick smart ... by the time I think to stop, the need to get there, sane, over takes the photographic urges!

You're right Sian and it's something I really should do too. There have been so many changes along the high street in our town, over the relatively short time we've lived here. Lots of things I wish I'd captured that are now long gone.

I like 'em! Our area is so "plain vanilla" with newer construction that it's difficult to find vintage scenes like yours.

It's a great idea,Sian....sad really that everything changes so quickly these days.

Love the vintage coke sign! I hope whoever reclaims that project knows that thing has value and doesn't just trash it!

Oh, but the landscape you have! You make me wish I was back there again. Did I ever tell you I should have been born British? I thoroughly enjoyed the whole diamond jubilee too!

It's official....the grass is greener...

What a beautiful set of photos- I hope the Coca cola sign gets a nice new home.

you sure have a point Sian - it won't be long before all the landmarks as we know them disappear. I do like that old coke sign! What kind of project do you have in mind then :) x

What a great idea Sian, things do certainly change far too quickly and it's a good reminder to have these- and continue to capture them too.

I feel the same way, I am one to wax nostalgic and point out things to the guys as we ride along. It definitely hit home with me when my grandparents' farm home, packhouse, smokehouse and tobacco barns were gone :(

So true...our village has changed dramatically in recent years & I wish I'd taken more 'before' shots! As for that CocaCola sign, I think you should get in there & make them an offer!! :D

What a great idea Sian. It is frightening sometimes how quickly the landscape is changing.

Oh now I love this project of yours. What a crime it would be to take down that Coca Cola sign, your images are very reminiscent already of a bygone era. Loved this post x

So exciting to capture things we pass by & take for granted. We're planning a little drive Saturday as I start looking for the items on Rinda's scavenger hunt.

I love your Instagram photos. I wish I would remember to use that app more often. It's a great idea for a photographic project, too. I'm working on one for the summer--in addition to Rinda's scavenger hunt and Capture Your 365.

I think you should collect up the vintage signs ~ more recycling than stealing ~ and open a vintage sign museum in your garden shed.
Do you even have a garden shed?

It's good to take the time to see what you pass by every day. I'm not often the passenger when I'm out but when I am I have a good look at all the things normally pass me by in a blur!

I've been scanning in old photos for the building next door - fascinating to see something I know so well as it was wayyy back when. Life tends to change without you even noticing doesn't it? Glad you've got the photos now.

It's a great idea to take pictures of landmarks that may soon be gone for good. Lovely pictures x

Yeah - there are lots of times I would love to stop and take photos on the roadside - but life always seems to be too busy for the things I would really love to do!

The prompts worked quite well for your drive :)

Wonderful idea to record your environment - things change so fast ... The colour cast is perfect for this. :) alexa

Fab snaps, I love the decaying pride of the Texaco sign. You must record them all. A mini album is calling. x
