Get Caught Reading

May feels to me like a good month to be a scrapbooker. We've got National Scrapbooking Day and better weather and more light. So much to see and do and write about!

But it's a good month to be a reader too..and I think Statesiders might know why. It's Get Caught Reading month, across the pond. Let's bring it on over! World Book Night is brilliant (though this year I discovered I had already read all the titles. They need to go quirkier) - but a month? Let's do it!

I asked the family to Catch Me Reading and this is what they found. I'm reading Adam Thorpe's new book Flight. And thinking about spending an Amazon voucher..

..maybe on:
Hilary Mantel's new Bring up the Bodies - the sequel to Wolf Hall
Susannah Conway's Instant Love - making magic with Polaroids
or Ronda Palazzari's Art of Layers - no, wait, I've already succumbed to that one and I think it's a beautiful book. I can definitely recommend it for pretty, easy to follow and do scrapbooking techniques.

So, how about you? Any chance I'll catch you reading if I come for a visit?

for sure - if I'm awake and not at the computer there is a good chance I'm reading, including while the TV is on. Mostly on my kindle and lots of fantasy, some murder mystery. love your photo

If anyone can make May the month to get everyone reading, you can Sian :) They've captured a great shot of you too

On the weekend I finished a political autobiography and today I started a series TEYO is reading - just to see what is capturing his undivided attention at the moment. As well, I am reading the third Harry Potter to the children - out loud each evening.
I'd also like to chase up more by Anne Holt, the Norwegian writer I was talking about on my blog earlier in the week, I enjoyed the one I have read.

What a great idea - its all about the reading here too. The youngest is getting into Roald Dahl and having the BFG read to her. The oldest is taking part in a book group at school in conjunction with the Carnegie book award. Me - I challenged myself to read two books a month and have kept up - even mananging four in April!

Cool idea and as the book about to go in my handbag as I head off to do errands is "The Lost Art of Reading" it seems some how appropriate. I'll see if I can get caught reading :)

What a brilliant idea :) I'll see what I can do ;)I'm usually the one that hears the mumbles of "it's no use trying to talk to her while she's got her nose in a book..."

Now that the school term is over, I am looking forward to reading something I don't have to grade. Right now it's Edward Rutherfurd's "Princes of Ireland," but Molly Peacock's biography of Mary Granville Pendarves Delaney, "The Paper Garden," is waiting patiently in the wings. Happy day!

I'm still working on my Spring Reading list - and half the time if my family were to snap me reading, I might have already fallen asleep. I must move my reading to earlier in the day. I checked on the Layers book on B&N and it's available as an e-book. I'll download a sample and see. Thanks.

Oh a great post and a terrific photo of you. I just spent yesterday afternoon doing a LO about how I don't read much anymore because of scrapping. I then went to the book store last night and picked up "Alone in the Classroom" by Elizabeth Hay, a Canadian author who won our Canadian Giller prize a few years back for another novel. I love reading books set in Canada. Anyway, I'm only on page 28 but it is great already!

Stop by ANY day & you are likely to catch me reading at some point! I have four books going right now, but am focusing on The Harbinger because my book club will be discussing it next Tuesday.

Mainly reading on my ipad these days - Stephen King's new book about time travel. I've good things about "Let's Pretend this Never Happened" by a blogger named Bloggess.
Will check that out soon.

It would mean coming over at bedtime! I always read at least a few pages before I turn off the light!

Like Debs, I'm mainly a bedtime reader. I always have at least one on the go, and while on holiday I bought 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society'. Off now to read some more!

I have so many on the pile waiting but have just hit a super busy time of year teaching and creating so I'm not getting a chance every day...but summer is coming :)

I read a little every day, and often quite a bit more. I'm always reading a couple of books--usually a memoir or a novel and a piece of non-fiction. Right now it's Imagine: How Creativity Works, and Unless It Moves the Human Heart: the Craft and Art of Writing. I'm loving both of them. I just finished The Marriage Plot (mixed review for that one.)

Hi Sian! Really missed your posts while I was away! I totally love May - and now I work in an office again I really feel the 'more light' aspect... very hard to photograph layouts when you leave home and come home in the dark...I'm still reading 'In Defence of Dogs' by John Bradshaw but only for about 15 minutes a night before I fall asleep...x

I'm also eyeing up my next book purchase I really don't need much persuading.

You'll definitely catch me reading if you stop by at bed time:) I have to investigate this special month long celebration, sounds too good to be true!

Indeed you might - though I'm not a great reader of fiction these last few years. I usually have several on the go, in different places in the house. That's a lovely photo of you. ;)

My book goes everywhere with me, I love to read and I love to read from a paper book and not an electric one :)

I am well on target to reach my goal of 100 books this year - so odds on you would catch me reading.

I'm an avid reader---always have been. But I want to mention, that if you've been on the fence about a Kindle---get it! I always loved the tactile experience of books and I love owning books. But my husband surprised me with a Kindle for Christmas (just the little cheapest one) and I love it! Now I only buy the books I want for my collection.

Love this action shot of you reading Sian :)

I will say after taking what seems like a long break from reading (or maybe it was because last year it took me a whole year to read 1 very long book!!)this year I have read 5 books - which makes me very happy to be back at it! I have come to the realization, if the book does not catch my interest after a few weeks, then it is OK if it never gets read! Giving myself that permission has made a huge difference in my reading :)

That's a great shot of you reading. I'm on holiday soon and I'll be working my way through a pile of books that have been waiting for me to find the time. I have to say the Art of Layers book looks very tempting.....
