Hurray for Humf. Humf is finished. Don't know what a Humf is? No, neither did I until I visited Little E and my sister produced the knitting pattern.
"I thought you might help me with one," she said, "Actually, no, I thought you might like to make one."
So I did. Humf is short, round, purple and stars in his own TV show. He looks like this:
Pattern bought on Ebay. "Don't forget your Humf card," Little E said as I left, and he pressed it into my hand |
I'm moving swiftly past a certain family member who thought Humf looked like a Barney the Dinosaur who had let himself go. And I'm putting my Little E's Humf forward for my Monthly Make with Annie the Felt Fairy (more details here - it's not too late to join in!). Then I'm parcelling him up for Little E's birthday and waving him off with a sigh of relief. Humfs are hard.

the things aunties do!! I have sympathy with the Barnie comment but he looks fun and cuddly
Humfs might be hard, but they are a rather smashing shade of purple:) The wool looks interesting.
'Humf' ... appropriately onomatopoeic for how you felt while making it! :-)
He is cute! I'm sure little E will love him. Makes me realise how much my girls are now growing up as there are a number of tv characters for little ones that I don't recognise - a few years ago I could have answered mastermind questions on them!
I like the look of Humf, do u think he'll stay around and become an icon like The Hoff?

Oh well done, I know who Humf is because Alice likes him :). Funny how I now know current children's programmes again. If ever you find a pattern for Miss Mouse from Show Me Show Me please let me know ;) xxx
Humf is a Blue Furry Thing.. His friend Loon is a Pink Feathered Thing, I think! Little E will love your Humf
Wow Sian, is there no end to your talents? Of course, my grandson knew instantly who Humf was. Get with the programme Granny!
I can see that you won't be producing any further Humfs. He certainly looks very cuddly and I'm sure Little E will love him.
I no longer have little ones, so no reason to be familiar with "humf" but it does look like a lot of work to make one!
No idea who Humf is - looks a bit like Tinky Winky after a heavy night out - but I'm sure litte E will love him (and his talented aunt)!
I think I'm with Jimjam's on this one!!! The things we will make to please small children!!! I'm sure he'll love him.....and I feel you may love moving on to a new make!!
I'm feeling ancient now as I have no idea who/what Humf is! However, your version of him is pretty impressive and I know that Little E is going to be thrilled with him.
Bet your sis is pleased that she has such a talented sister ;-)
I'm new to Humf as well, but you made a lovely job of him! especially his facial expression...Little E is going to be thrilled!! well Done Auntie Sian!! :)
Humf looks terrific! I too have never heard of him before but I love the Barney comparison. Lucky Little E!!
Ooh, Im so behind the times on kids characters now. Never heard of Humpf, it was all Thomas the tank and teletubbies when rob was little. Anyway, Humpf looks lovely, soft and cuddleable and Im sure Kittle E will love him to bits.
He looks very complex to make but wonderfully Humphy now he's done. The dedication of a loving Aunt ... Can we award you a medal?
Hope Little E likes his Humpf and I agree the facial expression is great :)
Short and round & purple? that'll be me then!
His expression is exactly how I feel after my day today;)
humpf!
Definitely not Barney at all! He had that really vacant, scary look, but humf is totally adorable.

I bet this is Little E's very favourite birthday present! It is a lovely toy - well done to you. Assuming you knitted "Humf"? I can knit, but I don't (not ever ever... I do not like it!). I can see why it was tricky to knit though - and the yarn you used probably didn't make it any easier - all that textured stuff it tricky (I know this because I do crochet - sometimes).
You did a great job and I love that Humf - he's gorgeous!
Humf is lovely, very adorable!
He may have been hard but I am sure he will be appreciated!
Little E is worth it though. I'm glad I don't have to knit a Humf. A scarf is my limit.
What a strange creature Humph looks. But I am sure Little E will love him and you are such a kind auntie to make one.
I can see where the Barney comment came from....I've never heard of Humf either, but am sure he's going to a very loving home!

Well, I can see that I'm really out of touch with what's "in" for little ones right now. I'd never heard of Humf but I'm glad to meet him as I think he is adorable. And what a nice auntie you are to spend the time knitting him. Little E will love him, I'm sure!
I've not heard of Humf but he looks pretty cute. I bet he will be loved lots!
I can tell mine are growing up - haven't a clue who Humfs is.
Beautifully made Sian - little E will love him.
No, I don't know who Humpf is either :D But he sure is a cutie!
Humpf is great! This character is new to me but then again I think my knowledge of childrens' tv characters ended with the tellietubbies!
Oh, wow, that does look like a lot of work . . . but oh so cute!
Humpf looks like he was a difficult project, but he is too cute and looks very cuddly as well!
Lol .... Love that, "letting himself go" comment. Oh you will be a very popular Aunt :)
Awww my kids love Humf! He is just too cute, well done x
Humf may have been hard but oh I bet he's loved something fierce.
Maybe Little E's mom will send a picture of the two of them together--that would be fun to see!
