I'm just just squeezing in under the wire with my layout today. It's my answer to some of the challenges Miss Smith has been setting herslf (and the rest of us) over at Curioser and Curioser . With this one:
I hope I have covered "using a sketch" and "finding a new way of telling the story". You already know the story - I had fun squeezing (almost) all the words on here; and the design started out as a Studio Calico Sunday Sketch
I'm not a great lover of my handwriting, but I am doggedly determined to leave it lying around for posterity. especially in our email dominated world. It seems appropriate on a layout about a letterbox. And if you have read the story, you will know why the snowflakes are there.
So, there you go. I promised I would have a go at a challenge and this is what I came up with. Now I just have that Pass the Page to finish up..

awesome. that is totally what I would have imagined a pillar box page made with that photo you took to look like. The splash of red border against the rest of the muted tones is just perfect.
I, too, love your handwriting. I'm passionate about getting people to use theirs on the page---it is so uniquely "you." Do you look at a recipe---say written by your grandmother and think, "gosh, she had terrible handwriting." No, it just evokes warm feelings of "her."
Of course, I already told you what I think of your "post boxes." I pinned your layout on my "board" too!
Oh well done on completing a couple of Miss Smith's challenges, I have been taken by a couple of her ideas as well and must get around to scrapping them!
Fab LO Sian, I'm a little behind in bloggy reading, so I will nip and read your pillar box story. I don't like my handwriting much, so I tend to include it, but hidden if I can. The little phone dial caught my eye, may I ask where you got it from (my kids still can't believe we used to have phones that had a dial like that on the front!)

Your handwriting is great. You are right on with the reasons why you want to include it.
Isn't it funny that so many people think their own handwriting is horrible! It's like hearing your voice recorded and thinking, 'I don't sound like that!' I love your page and seeing your handwriting on it.
When I saw your page, my first though was, "Great, Sian is doing exactly what it says on the tin!" ~ getting the story down. I love how the page also has a Christmassy feel to it.
Its a fab page Sian and great to see the layout having read the story. I too think its important to journal in your own handwriting especially as you say in this technology driven world we live in
I loved the story when I read it and this page suits it perfectly - I also liked that dial. It reminded me how short our phone numbers were when calls were so expensive!

That's a lovely page and story Sian.
I used to print journalling for pages but have learnt that even though I would like my handwriting to be more distinguished, it is mine and that makes it unique. My dad & nan were not 'writers' but I do have a handwritten recipe of my nan's and a list of craft materials written by my dad. They are special keepsakes because there is connection on the paper, and that makes me appreciate handwriting, whether beautiful or not. It is also a trademark, because as soon as you see handwriting you can recognise the person. I have just bought a book from a charity shop as it happens, because I want to experiment and be playful with my handwriting.
By the way, I love the letterbox and telephone dial. They were the days..........
i really like it when people use their own handwriting on a page - it adds that personal touch!

Love the paper strips! I always journal by hand. I find it too time consuming to use the computer.

What a great page - I really like the red border to highlight the pillar and all the strips of patterned papers. Way to go using your handwriting, this was definitely the perfect page for it!
I also like your handwriting - I think it's just that we got nagged at school, to write tidily, so we all have hang-ups about our perfectly nice and normal writing now!!
Love the red spotty border round the edge of your page, the placing of the photo and the choices of papers for the vertical strips (yes, I know you used a sketch, but everyone's interpretation is different and yours is really good).

Great job on the layout Sian (I like the mix of papers you have used here)! It really is lovely... and so is your handwriting :) I once had a lady at a crop ask my if I would write something out for her because she liked my handwriting... I was stunned... all I could think of was... what about your kids...they won`t want to see my writing 20 years from now... You are right about e-mail... I am very thankful to have some items with my grandmothers writing.
LOVE this page, and the fact that you documented your story from this month. I want to do the same thing - and am thinking of putting all of my "Storytelling Sunday" pieces into their own little book...
