My Month in Numbers: September 2011

Over at Notes on Paper, Julie counts things. Once a month she rounds up what she she has done and what has come her way, and she makes a list. In numbers. It's a fiendishly clever way of pulling a whole month of life together, as I discovered when I tried it for myself.

My September went like this:

A lot: (bit rough and ready, I know, but who wants to admit how much coffee they actually drink? Plus, I'm feeling my way in here..) - the number of empty coffee tins I have achieved. I just know I can come up with a plan for them. Eventually.

She was experimenting with ice cube moulds. Why do we have numbers for ice cubes? See below

30: bars of soap produced by The (Not So) Small One's soap kitchen. It's her top activity at the moment, combining as it does many of her favourite things - microwaves, mess and delicious smells. I have high hopes for Christmas.

1: picture of The Accountant looking accountant-ly in a new work ad campaign brochure. Not sure about the caption which says (essentially) Phone this man for added value. Really?!

2: books I have especially enjoyed. I've been recommending the Guide one to anyone I know who was a Girl Guide. It's not about making wonky gadgets and singing silly songs, it's actually a very moving story of real courage.

500: rows of knitting in the cardigan I'm making.

3: trips to the dentist, but the less said about that, the better.

7: buttons sewn back on a school blazer. And it only has 3 buttons to start with.

and 92 comments from bloghoppers and well wishers on my Scrap365 post. Again, thank you! It's just over 6 weeks until the first issue appears.

That was September. If you would like to join in, give Julie a shout. She'd be happy to see you!

Great post - think I might give the guide book a try. I was a brownie and a guide and now the youngest is at brownies and the oldest at guides and they still sing some of the songs we used to! I love it that these traditions are being passed on.

What a great post! I think I may have seen Alexa do this before and I really must check out Julie's list.
I was a Brownie and so was my daughter, but sadly neither of us went on to be Guides.

I do like how Julie sorts out her months in number form and you've got off to a vey good start. I might keep this in mind for a project next year.
Oh, and The Accountant is looking not only clever but also dishy in the promo shot! No need to tell him I said so ...

What a fun post to read!! Soap making sounds terrific and TSO will have such lovely gifts to give at Christmas time. Three trips to the dentist... ouch! Those coffee tins look so appealing all stacked up like that. I too have a thing for tins and small boxes. hee hee

It's nice to have a peep into your month in numbers. I'm very impressed with The (not so) Small Ones venture into the crafty world. I've recently bought some supplies but haven't actually got around to making any soap yet so any tips welcome :)

You definitley need to find a crafty use for your steady supply of empty coffee cans.

So the NSSO is designated to making all the xmas presents...the accountant to raising the funds....you just need to persuade TTO to do the cooking....and that's a stress free christmas for you!!

Jacky, I like your thinking!

Great post! I should give this a try sometime - I love to count. My sister, Jen, would attest to this!

Love this idea - you know I'm a fan of numbers! But I love how you've done it, too :) And I'm so pleased that The Accountant gives added value!! ;)

PS The Boy sends his greetings to The (Not So) Small One! He was talking about her only yesterday :) He and I are united in wanting to arrange another trip to your area soon! xx

Goodness, I read this before going to work and have only just remembered I needed to come back and say 'thanks for playing with me this month!'. Yes, those tins have got to have a use - as gift tins / advent treats ... assuming you can empty 25 of them by December that is!

I love it when someone I know joins in and shares their numbers - so thank you!!! Muchly!

I'll go back to my post and a link to you now.

maybe you could alter/decorate the tins and use them to put the soap gifts in? Great post!

Love the idea of using numbers in your post, Sian. It's something I plan one day. Makes an interesting read, especially with the photos.

Great read Sian! I love doing this exercise as much as I love reading them from others! Those tins have a lot of potential and can be used as gift containers for the lovely soap numbers! :D

Neat post/summery idea, I don't keep the coffee packs but might swap brands just to have the tins. Do they do fair trade?

Ok I admit we're sad but I can think of sooo much fun with number ice cube moulds, I wonder if they do the math symbols too...

I was a Girl Scout, then moved to Girl Guides here, very scouty family we were. I'll add it to my list of books to confuse the local librarian with as I go in and ask for titles they've never heard of. I just hope someone else reads them after I have...

What a wonderful way to review the month! I feel the same - there must be a use for those coffee tins - I'll be watching to see what you come up with.

Having a giggle here about the seven button sewn onto a 3-button only blazer :) Very funny.

I love your month in numbers. Especially the soap numbers - I bet you will have a lovely scented Christmas gift!

I was a girl guide and my mum is guiding leader, I help out when I go to visit her. So we'll probably both read this book now! x

I have a feeling there are way more numbers in your month than you owned up to in this post--you're one busy lady!
