A Bit of Better Blogging - Part Six

I've been waiting for this book to arrive

"Scrapbook Workshop - Favourite Techniques From Favourite Scrapbook Bloggers"

and it has inspired me to pull together another selection of blogging tips, tutorials and thoughts I have found interesting. I hope you find something here worth a look!

  • From Write to Done (great writing site) an interesting post here - are you a Blogger Buddy or a Blogger Bum?
  • Pugly Pixel - all round very lovely site with lots of video tutorials for photoshoppers who like to blog, iPhone photo tips, freebie web design items. A pleasure to browse.
  • Scoutie Girl offers a reasonably priced blogging ebook and more which I think would make an interesting follow on to Shimelles's classes. I haven't used it, but if you browse around there are some free extracts to tempt you
  • BlogU - lots of useful tips which don't assume a lot of knowledge. Check out her popular posts sections.
  • WhatThe Font allows you to uplaod a sample of a font you have found and loved to find out what it is
  • My Girl Thursday - cute videos with "your blogging questions answered" and some free printables
I'll be creating a Pinterest board with my blogging favourite tip sites just as soon as I can - so keep an eye out for that. And check out the Pinterest Parade too - it's still growing!

I hope your Tuesday is a great one. On a sidenote - I have been unable to access my email since about 6.00pm yesterday. I might be waiting until my technical support gets home tonight before I'm back. But I will be back. Definitely.
ETA: Email has returned. Hurrah.

Sian, thank you for your lovely email. I've been trying to reply but I keep getting a message saying I've triggered Hotmail's spam filters (I have no idea why!! I've read my message carefully and I can't see anything dodgy!) I'll try again later but wanted to let you know I had received your email, thank you :)

Thanks for the links Sian. I've already checked out Pugly Pixel. I've never seen it before but it's going to be so useful and I've already learnt something this morning.

I love your Better Blogging posts - just enough for me to glean an extra tip or two without being overwhelming to my ageing brain!

I'll have to come back later to check out the links, but I did link my boards to the Pinterest post. I've just gotten started there, and this should be a great resource!

These look like some interesting links - I'm going to keep this window open on my computer today and check them out one at a time as I have a few minutes between "chores" (like a little reward!).

Sian, I am way behind on my reading but wanted to say:
1) Great list of links I will be back to follow these up.
2) Love the Pinterest parade idea (I did say I was way behind)
3) Last but certainly not least - A big congratulations on the new magazine.

And now I need to go read up all about the new mag on the other blogs too.

I've added the BlogU to my favorites and really enjoyed watching the My Girl Thursday videos. I like the blogging organizer printables - think I'll create some simliar pages for my insiration/idea book. Thanks for sharing these.

I'll be back to catch up on all your posts (been on the road for a few days and have missed all my blog reading!) - your posts are always inspiring so I will make sure I come back but I just wanted to say thanks for your comment on my LOAD post - glad to hear that you are also a slow scrapper! I seem to be in the minority! As for your question about my layout - I have some albums that I stuffed with whatever layout came to hand two years ago (not in anyway organised) and the layouts since then are in PILES! I need to invest in some albums and spend some time to fill them but so far, I have them all stored in a 64 litre Very Useful Box and now there's a new pile of 40 or so layouts forming! Such a bad habit!

Hotmail's hating me at the moment :( It thinks every message I try to send to you is spam. I even tried this one:

"Dear Hotmail,

This is a perfectly innocent message. Just like yesterday's was, and the one I tried earlier. Please let me send it so Sian knows I'm not ignoring her! It would be even better if you could let me type everything I want to type, which really isn't in the slightest bit dodgy, without setting off some major alert and shutting down my email. What do you think?

PS If you do let this message through, will you please give my love to Sian and tell her I'll try again as soon as you're feeling less pernickety?

Many thanks,

Mel"

but it said that looked like spam too and refused to send it :( I'll keep trying! xx

Ooh, thankyou Sian. I have looked at the good/bad blogger one. I am a good blogger but apparently I could try harder...I will try Miss!

Love ur list! That book arrived on my doorstep today...isn't it fab? I love it, I'd b interested to find out what other books u recommend? thx

Sian said...

Michelle, I don't have a lot of scrapping books, but I do return to Ali Edward's "Life Artist" every so often. It's not a technique book, more of a manifesto for creating. For solid design principles you can't beat Cathy Zielske's books. And of course all the Pass the Book titles are great ones too!

Cate Brickell said...

another amazing list here! I have both the scoutie girl books, they are fabulous! reminds me I must go back and have a refresher read of them! thank you!

wow. thank you so much for including pugly pixel in your list -- what an honor! i've been a long fan of scoutie girl and my girl thursday. i'm off to explore your other links.

again, thanks much!

A list to save for later. I always feel slightly guilty when I see articles about 'good bloggers' refusing to use a real name (even if it is to keep one's marriage intact) is a prime problem for most people. However, I do try hard to respond to people's comments and to pass on those I find useful.

Love the Ali Edwards & Cathy Zielske books too :)
