When Being Wrong Can Sometimes Be Right

I had just waved The Small One off to school the other morning when I turned round and saw this lying on the kitchen table:

Quick phone photo
Oooh, I thought. That doesn't look good. A sad face at this time of the morning? Is there something we need to talk about?

I wondered all day about how to bring it up, all casual you know; and in the end I just came right out and asked. Turns out the biggest trauma of the day was Home Economics. They had to make fruit salad when some of the other classes were making pizza. That was it. A sad face for fruit salad.

You can overthink things as a parent sometimes.

I'm glad that was all it was. I sometimes think it gets more difficult being a parent as the children get older - with age comes a whole new set of problems. xx

Yes, it is good that was all it was - and yes, I know I am guilty of over thinking many parenting issues!

That is something we as mothers are so prone to. Even now when my children are grown up with children of their own I can still do it.

Awww. I'm sure you won't always have the 'We don't make friends with salad' song ringing in your ears. :-)

But somehow, even if your DD didn't admit it, I bet she's glad you asked and I bet you're glad you did too.

Good to know it was only fruit salad ~ I'd have been worrying all day, too.

FABULOUS! Pure innocence! Kids and their problems - wouldn't it be great to have such an uncomplicated life!

i think its only natural to worry about things when u love people so much. shame u werent getting pizza though, i'd have preferred that myself. we never made exciting things like that in home economics only shepherds pie etc.

I so agree with you but we just don't seem to be able to help ourselves sometimes.

Oh, Sian, right with you on this one. If it was me, I'd have been worried sick all day and wouldn't have been able to settle.

We certainly all tend to over worry...and it doesn't stop when they get older either!!

How worried you must have been all day - fretting and probably thinking the worst! Still.... I can understand The Small One completely... fruit salad instead of pizza! How terrible!

Me too - I can worry all day about almost nothing at all. It seems to be a disease that you catch as soon as you realise you're expecting a baby...
My mother tells me you never stop worrying about your children.
Cheerful eh?
So glad it was nothing really, earth-shatteringly serious. After all, she can always make pizza at home (how about Jamie Oliver's 10-minute version?)

She must be living a pretty charmed life, since that's the downer for the day. Bravo to you for creating that life and being a caring mom.

the hardest thing about life is keeping the right perspective. sometimes fruit salad vs. pizza is a big deal - it just depends on what else is going on. :-)

As they get older the worry seems to get greater - at least when they were babies you had more control of their lives!

Phew! (And I love your tablecloth.)

that would have been on my mind all day too! xx

I can understand the small ones dissapointment....I would prefer making pizza too. Who said being a mum was simple eh? It's so easy to over think stuff then start to worry.

TSO is lucky to have such an observant Mum - I'm sure you and she can knock up a pizza together soon! How's the zoo (or was it a circus?) coming along?

Well, I know at this point in my life I should be happy about the fruit salad, but I believe I would have rather the pizza too! LOL

I am well known for overthinking and overworrying as a parent. I know exactly how you felt. So glad it was just fruit salad!

I over think and I'm not a parent, can't imagine what I'd be like if I had kids! You are such a good mom Sian for noticing this, better this and talking about it than not noticing at all :)

They are very good at worrying you without even realising it! I'm glad everything is ok though :)

I still over think about parenting, but as our boy gets older (he is 22) it is my husband that really over thinks!!
I think it is better that you do than that you don't, gosh what a strange sentence. I'm sure you know what I mean Sian x

Oh, Sian...if I had a dime for every time I jumped to conclusions... Now that Carrie is grown we communicate during the day through texting and sometimes she is very cryptic, leading me to assume she's upset or sad. It can drive me crazy at times if I let it.

{This is a sweet post!} xo

We all worry don't we - at least it was only the fruit salad - the smallest things to us mean such a lot to them don't they ? Lovely post x

yay relief x

Well, Google seems to be working again for me and not signing me out constantly.
So just popped back to say how much I loved this post. I can think of similar instances in the past. As Mark Twain said, 'I've known a great many troubles but most of them never happened'.
Thank goodness too!

Glad to hear that's all it was. I'm thinking I'm with the small one, pizza does sound better than fruit salad. :)
