The Tin With the Ding

Did you buy any Royal wedding souvenirs? I hadn't thought about it until I saw a picture of a perfect little blue tin and knew it was the one for me. It has shortbread inside and a lovely print on the top which looks like paper cutting, but  is actually an illustration by Kate Forrester. When the biscuits are gone, I'll fill it with embroidery thread for my grandchildren to find years from now.

There is just one thing about my tin. It has a ding in it. A dent. A little imperfection. Every one on the shelf was the same. I know this because I took advantage of the fact I was on my own (and not embarrassing any other family member); and I took them all out and looked.

But, no matter. After all, I do like my history to have a little added - history.

And here is the souvenir page I made:

I might send it across to the Crate Paper Color Challenge this month. It fits the scheme of royal blue, sky blue and lavender (although you have to look closely to see the stitched lavender scallops here). The banner and the white edging I made with a doily punch. And that's my souvenir of a souvenir.

If they were all "dinged" the same, must be part of the manufacturing process - a little rough handling by one of the machines passing it down the assembly line?

It is still a pretty tin which will suit all the embroidery threads - unfortunately we have unpacked a few things that are supposed to be new but they are 'dinged' or cracked, it is quite annoying!

The tin looks cute Sian and I love your background paper. Pretty layout. I didn't buy anything - wonder if I should see if there's anything left anywhere.

Oooh, now I really want one of those tins! I wanted to get a souvenir but hadn't seen any I liked, that tin is really pretty!

And so is your page of course, I love the delicate bunting and the chipboard bird. Great souvenir of a souvenir! x

Pretty page - and tin. Not one for royal souvenirs me, but I like shortbread and embroidery threads :D
Pretty bunting too!

I can just imagine you inspecting them all in the shop. so much nicer as a home for embroidery threads than the plastic box I use

That's a beautifula layout Sian I noticed all your stitching around the scallops straightaway. I'd have rather have a tin with a ding than not have one at all.

A lovely tin and a lovely page. I like how you're recording the story about the item itself. Robbie & I would have pulled all the tins off the shelf looking for the perfect one, too. LOL

Exquisite is the word to describe this, I think. I particularly like the birds and crowns.

What a pretty page this is! The tin is sweet; I bet M&S have had lots returned by their stores, if they are packed (or made) so badly! Still, it's a lovely tin and if you don't mind the teeny dent, then it's fine! A very nice place to store embroidery threads. When I get my new cupboard, I want to show off my little collection of pretty tins!

Lovely idea to get a souvenir Sian; I have a few coins from way back, but no tins (which would be far more useful). LOVE your LO, I rather wish you could do my scrapbooking for me!!! So many adorable little details.

What a beautiful LO to remember the royal wedding! I love the elegant look with the doily banner! That punch must be awesome!! The hand stitching is the perfect touch! Beautiful tin. I am a bit of a fan of small tins and boxes myself. :)

No souvenirs for me, I did mean to keep a newspaper but I forgot! The tin is a gorgeous shade of blue, I do like souvenirs to be tasteful!

And very lovely it is too. And yes, I CAN see those beautifully-stitched scallops. What a lovely idea, to keep embroidery threads in for the next generation!

How come I didn't see those tins in my local M&S, ding or no ding? I love the LO ~ everything comes together so perfectly.

That doily bunting is just divine. Send the tin down to me, I will make short work of the shortbread...it's my favourite.

Well, I said it before blogger bombed out, but Robbie and I would have looked through all the tins to find a perfect one, too. LOL

Ack can't remember what I said Sian! Gorgeous LO, love the tin (I seem to recall getting coins when I was younger to commemorate royal stuff). The details on your LO are stunning; wish you could scrapbook for me, LOL! Have a lovely weekend! Sue

Your layout looks great Sian and that tin sure looks nice. Hmmm, wonder what the history is on that dent. I'm with Ginger - hope there will be something nice while they're here for their visit next month, although I know they're not coming near Toronto.

Lovely layout and I really like the tin too! Not seen anything like that in Essex!

The tin is beautiful - pity it has a ding in it, but I suppose it gives it character. I didn't see a lot of souvenir items here in Aus, but I wasn't looking that hard! Your LO is gorgeous as usual!

Another beautiful layout and I love your tin (with history). Don't think I saw any like that down this way - in fact didn't see anything that caught my eye as a souvenir to keep
