Black and White and Teal All Over

I have a new page for you today. My colorsplash photos from Saturday's post got me playing around with with the contrast between black and white and a monochrome colour scheme. It's certainly an easy way to pull together supplies for a layout: one black and white photo and a selection of embellishments in one colour gives you a look like this:

Photographed before the journaling was added. It's a family story, this one. But I will tell you that the bridesmaids dresses were in the shade of blue I have chosen for my background paper

I'll be trying this one again soon in a different colour. And that's a promise!

Many, many thanks to everyone who contributed a story for Storytelling Sunday this month, and to everyone who hopped around enjoying the tales. It's not too late, there is still time to add yours to the list. Or, if your story is still cooking, there is always next month..

There is something so elegant about bridal couture of yesteryear, my grandmothers and great grandmothers all looked so beautiful and probably a whole lot more formal that I would ever see them again!

Those were lovely dresses - it's rather wonderful that you have made that photo into a scrap page on the same colour-theme; kind-of keeping the snapshot of family history for your children & grandchildren, but in a much more meaningful way than just the photo on its own.
I suppose that's the real benefit of scrapbook pages, when applied to family photos. It can add more than just an extra dimension - it adds new history too!
Great layout, Sian - I like the composition and the way it all co-ordinates so very beautifully. The white flowers and pleated ribbon really add a lovely touch. And I love that blue!

What a great idea to take the colour that you can't see in the b&w photo and use that as your background, I would never have thought of doing that. Such an elegant photo and layout.

Lovely delicate vintage feel ... Like the softly distressed look for this photo.

Great layout, I love the colours. I was at work having a quick sneaky blog read and I read teal as tea! I was expecting a post on spilt tea on a layout! :)

gorgeous layout Sian - the b&w&onecolor combo is really quite elegant.

I love using black and white photos for the very reason that you can then use your own colour palette....but do love the idea of picking a colour that would have actually been in the photo.

the beautiful blues really go well with the black and white photo. i like how the two are connected in an unseen way - the color of the dresses.

That is beautiful -one of my favourite colours. I think I may use that idea with some of the old b&w photos - thanks for the inspiration.

What a lovely LO - and a beautiful way to record the colour of the dresses. I loved blog hopping from storytelling Sunday - though I didn't comment - not because I didn't want to, as I had limited time - and preferred to try to read all the stories from each participant. I that I succeeded and I loved all the stories.

Amazing monochromatic LO!! Such a classic look and really allows for the photo to shine! I just checked out the Counterfeit kit challenge and am loving the palette. I still have some scraps and journal tags from "Daily Junque" that may work. Hope you are playing along this month! :)

That's a gorgeous page to compliment a gorgeous photo. We don't actually need to know the story ~ the LO seems complete without it. But, being nosy, I'd love to know what you wrote ....

Beautiful shade of blue. Part of me thinks the photo looks lovely just as it is in black and white and part of me wants to see just what the dresses looked like in colour.

That is a gorgeous layout. What a great idea to use the black and white photo, yet use papers in the color of the dresses.

So pretty! Love that color! And funny I have to work at not having all my layouts be monochromatic - I don't know why I lean toward "matchey/matchey". I LOVE colors. lol

Such an elegant LO...& a great formula for creating one too! I just love that you chose the colour that the dresses actually were even though the photo is B&W...wher did you journal? Just on the tag?..or on the background as well?...Handwritten? Am I nosey?!!! Just like to know these things!!! :)

Sian said...

Journaling is on the tags and on the back. And handwritten, which is my favourite way.
