The Way We Wore

I've been reading through all your seventies stories after Saturday's post and laughing out loud at how many of us suffered the same fate. And thinking we are all still here to tell those tales with a smile, so I guess the damage doesn't run too deep! All the same, special mention has to go to Sarah (whose mum cunningly crafted kaftans from tablecloths) - Sarah, we salute you.

Of course there had to be a layout in there somewhere. And here it is:

That's me on the right hand end, dressed in a top which was first a dress. And, in a happy coincidence after Thursday's photo of The Small One's first glasses, you can see mine here. Blue. Plastic. Don't we all look like we are having fun? Though, to be fair, I think it was a very hot day (it must have been - some of those legs haven't seen a pair of shorts since).

I used some of the Crate Paper Sandra sent me from the Gotta Craft sale stock, and some of her KI Memories Heartfelt Patches, mixed in with a few bits I pulled from my stash. There might not be room on the front; but there is on the back: I'm going to add your seventies style stories right on there with mine.

Until Thursday!

That paper is just perfect, Sian.reminds me of 1970s wallpaper.Your little list would also be true of a child of the 60s....and those NHS specs are probably collectable 'memorabilia' now!

Great title. The paper does look very 70s and matches your brother's orange bucket perfectly :)

I think this should win the "Scrap Page of the Month" award!
Fabulous, Sian! I like the choice of paper - very throw-back-to-the-'70s, but it suits the photo very well.
I remember the NHS plastic glasses. Our friend Sarah had blue ones; mine were brown. I always thought the pink were worst.
I didn't have tops made from cut-down dresses - my poor sister inherited my old clothes!
But we did have shorts and those sandals; and scabby knees; ankle socks... Not long hair though - we had ours kept short so it could be kept "tidy"! I didn't have long hair til I was about 12 (when the hairdresser - who was our friend - persuaded my mum to let me grow it... I think she was tired of me sobbing the whole time she cut my hair!). Of course, I'm scarred for life by this horrible cruelty on the part of my mother.. .
I can remember the students who stayed with us in the summer and who wore jeans with flares, t-shirts or flowered blouses, big floppy hats and jackets with huge lapels. Some had bags made from multi-coloured crochet squares - I was so thrilled when my grandma sent me one for myself! She taught me how to make them too - maybe it's time for another crochet bag, for this summer (a bit more tasteful in colour choices perhaps...)
A great scrap page, brings back lots of memories (as did your previous post).
What fun!

I love your layout, but have to say I am glad I was an 80s child. I escaped the 70s patterns, but had to deal with the ski pants and over washed denim for most of my youth.

I harken back to the late 50s and early 60s, but I think we all have similar stories. You've given me an idea for a page---must write it down. Love your design and choice of papers--just beautiful.

You know, when I had to have glasses for the first time at age 13, my Gran told me I was vain and that the NHS ones were perfectly suitable for "someone like you" ~ I am still grateful to this day that my mum took no notice. Do you reckon I could get a page for my Y&T album with that story ...?
Your LO is fabulous, prefect colours and paterns.

Wow, Sian - what a fun layout and a great way to pay tribute to those wonderful 70's. Stunning layout and choice of papers.

Fabulous! That paper and the colours just sum up that era perfectly. So many fashion elements on show there. But if it were 1974, you only had a couple of years to wait until the big heatwave of the decade, bet those legs made it back into shorts then!

this layout is so 70s in colour and background style. have several pictures of me and the sister wearing our unfortunate clothing choices too, heehee.

We still use Clark's sandals here - they are quite sought after actually! I think we would refer to legs first exposed to the summer sun as being on their 'maiden voyage' ... happens a lot around here with our Celtic heritage - especially Dad, we get a fit of the giggles when he breaks out the shorts!

I forgot ... The Four Year Old had the equivalent of NHS glasses for her first pair too - was a wise choice for a then two year old!

Great layout Sian! And I love the title - just might have to scraplift that at some later date, ok? :>)

This is a lovely sunny page! And how nice of you to honour our additional memories by including us :). Oh, and yes, I remember Clark's buckled sandals too - if you sat with a leg underneath you, you ended up with a buckle-shaped indent in the skin of your ankle!

Oh yes, the seventies! Love the colors one your layout, reminds me of our kitchen back then. Great word play in the title!

You got the colors dead on Sian! The green reminds me of our old kitchen appliances my mom had, love the "if you were a child in the 70's" strip. Well done:)
