She's Great Gas

"You off out with your doctor friend tomorrow, then?" asked The Tall One, as he grabbed a snack or four.

"She's not just a doctor, she's an anaesthetist," said The Small One, slowly and carefully.

It says Gaz toxique on this Pink Paislee paper!

"Duh. YES. She'd definitely been on some of her own gas last time she was here," said her brother, handing her some supplies.

"Hey!" said The Small One, "That's not fair! She's cool. I asked her if she wanted to borrow me for Take Your Daughter To Work Day; and she said she'd see, but I'd have to be a bit older, and..."

and off they went to do their homework. My friend wasn't always a doctor, of course. We bonded in Additional Maths class. She could do it. I couldn't. We hadn't a father between us; and I think our mothers fondly believed we were good support for each other. In truth, we just liked the same boys.

We worked on the school magazine together. We interviewed an old headmaster. And those rumours about us being the last people to see him alive? Probably just rumours, though it's true he didn't ever get to see his words in print.

We shared a room the night before I got married, giggling like teenagers again, until she put on her bridesmaid dress and zipped me into my frock. Now we do more grown up things, talk about adding on conservatories or the price of tomatoes; and we spend on the fight against ageing with a facial each, not two coffees and a bun between us. But her laugh is the same. Her world view still cheers. She is always, as my Father-In-Law would have said, Great Gas

A layout without a photo, using my February Counterfeit Kit for their "Putting the Pen to Paper" mini challenge
That's it for today - but, don't forget, Storytelling Sunday is next week. Sunday 6th February.

Your post has reminded me of how much my friendships have changed. Once we shared hot toast after a heavy night at the "Disco" now it's a glass of wine while we chew over family situations. A solid friendship grows and grows dispite distance. Mine started when I was courting her brother (it didn't last) but our friendship is over 38 years strong so maybe he was the link.

Great post and thank you for your kind comments on my blog

It's funny where and how we all end up, when we started in a class together or giggled over boys. One girl I went to school with for many years is now a famous actress over here - it is hilarious to see her on screen, when I can imagine what her mother would be saying or remembering playing strawberry shortcake dolls together and trying on her mums lipstick in the bathroom.

Lovely! The patterned paper at the bottom really grounds the journaling. Well done!

A beautiful storytelling layout. How wonderful that your friendship has lasted all this time.

Your stories are such a wonderful way to start my day! I always wanted a friend that lasted from childhood, but we made two huge moves as I was growing up, and although I'm still in touch with one friend from the second move, the moves made it hard to maintain friendships--particularly among teenagers.

that's so sweet. really important to have someone like that who lasts.

Such a beautifully told story and a pretty, pretty layout, full of freshness and very feminine! I was a bit alarmed by the Empoisoner and Gaz Toxique at the top - is there a 'not' in there somewhere? She sounds more life-enhancing rather than the opposite! :)

Well, the Page Without a Picture is really rather fabulous, Sian. The story it tells is just wonderful - you are, indeed, a great story teller (just as your friend is "a great gas"!).
Thanks for sharing this - it made me smile.

How lucky you are to have a lifelong friend who you still see and so obviously are fond of. I love your photo-less LO, especially the layering & subtle colours.
