On The Edge Of A New Year

As we balance on the very edge of a new year, it's only natural to look back while we look forward. It's been mostly a year of quiet pleasures here (unless Little E is in the house, or there is a flute exam looming, or I feel the need for some big Morrissey sounds. Maybe not completely quiet, then). But 2010 has been a good one.

It has been the year I started pressing new buttons on my camera and designing for a team (thanks, Gotta Craft). And the year I took part in more online classes and made two of my all-time favourite layouts:

this one

and this one

It has been the year I started Pass The Book (back soon. If you fancied the sound of Inner Excavation on Ali Edwards' blog yesterday, sit tight because I have it on order). And the year I rediscovered knitting, fancied a bit of felt..a lot of new things.

I really wanted to slow down on the classes in the coming year; and consider quality, not quantity. But thinking about one of my favourite blog features here this year - Christmas Club - made me realise how important to me telling the story really is. Here on my blog and in my albums. I missed out on Ali Edwards' Yesterday and Today the first time round; but now, with my PSE9 installed, I think it's simply meant to be. I've signed up and looking forward to connecting with a bunch of storytellers from all over the world. 2011 might become The Year Of The Story here at From High In The Sky. I'm sharpening my pencil and flipping open my notebook and waiting to see what's round the next corner..

I'm just starting to reflect on the past year - what an unexpected one it's been for us but in a good way. I'm not signing up for any classes at the moment but will look forward to reading your stories as you follow Ali's class! I hope 2011 is a wonderful year for you and yours.

I already think of yours as 'the blog of the wonderful stories'....it sounds like you're going to have even more to share....perfect.
I'm taking an Ali class as well....but mine's 'one little word'...am really looking forward to it as I so admire what she does.

Like Jacky, I always think of this blog as the story blog, so I'll be very happy to see it expand and continue in the new year. I took Ali's course last year, but for some reason, never could get started with it. It's high on my list for my word for 2011: finish. I contemplated signing up at the reduced rate again, but since I already have access to all that I need, I decided to go it alone. I hope the inspiration here will get me on track!

I took Ali's class last year - you'll love it! I did a lot, but not all of the layouts. I may try to follow along on my own from last year's class and see what new stories I can come up with!

Ooooo sounds exciting!! I've signed up for One Little Word and also had my eye on Yesterday and Today. It seems like a lot of work though, and quite a bit to pay for the course. Does it look like it will be something great to do?? I may change my mind!! I think I have until 6th to sign up!

Very nice post, Sian. I've been reflecting on this past year too, and considering what will have my focus in 2011. I've been considering the Ali class myself...I see that it starts today though so I'd better get with it if I'm going to go in that direction. There are so many things I want to do/sign up for but I want to be careful not to overload myself. I'll look forward to reading your stories in 2011!!!

Wishing you lots of good things to you and your family in 2011.

I've been looking forward before looking back - yikes! Will do a little reflection this week as well. I'm so on the fence about Yesterday and Today. The price is scaring me away a little bit. And the timing, as I do best with "live" classes and I've got several other things I want to do at the first of the year. Will need to revisit the description again.

I think you should re-name your blog to "Highlights in the Sky" because it has provided regular Highlights for me - and I'm sure lots of others - throughout 2010. I'm sure that, if you really do carry on telling stories, that 2011 will be just as fun and interesting for you and for all of your keen readers!
Thanks for a year of great stories, lovely photos and scrap pages and interesting thoughts and ideas. Yours is definitely among my very favourite blogs to visit!
Happy New Year for Saturday. May 2011 be a wonderful year for you and your family!

I've so loved your stories and blogs, Sian and look forward to more in the coming year.
I too think I need to do less
e-courses and to think about quality rather than quantity. I have been devouring them since discovering them earlier this year. Most have been excellent and I have learned lots, but I am over stretching myself and struggle to keep up or finish. Note to self - slow down in 2011.
I am interested in Yesterday & Today but have 2 course already signed up, so I am holding fire for now. I do have a collection of old family photos and I have done some of my tree, also the census I have been waiting for will be released in 2011.....
I may be sorely tempted to join in once I see your blog!

Well...I'm sitting comfortably so you can begin whenever you're ready!! Thanks for a year of fabulous posts & I will look forward to your observations & recollections in the year ahead with eager anticipation! Like you I had decided to keep classes to a minimum in 2011 (I have a few other things in the pipeline!) but have already spotted a Big Picture class that's taken my fancy!! Hmm

Wishing you & yours a very Happy New Year! xx

Sian, I enjoy reading your blog! Enjoy the Ali Edward's class, it sounds wonderful. (I really wanted to do it too but have put a hold on all scrappin' spending except for adhesives until DH returns to work!) Hope you and your family have a very Happy New Year!

The thing that I love the most about visiting your blog is the emphasis that you place on story telling and preserving your memories. I'm definitely looking forward to visiting in 2011 if there's going to be even more of that! x

A very Happy New Year to you, your blog is full of inspiration, there is always something of interest to read - long may this continue!

Sian, you are a natural storyteller which is one of the reasons I love your blog... I will see you on the boards at Y & T! P.S. I agree though with the quality vs quantity - I am trying to be a bit more choosy in what I pick and I think that's one of the things that I love so much about Shim's classes - they are more about the story... Happy New Year!

I'm reading these in reverse lol.... Y&T sounds perfect for you and I'm sure I'd love it too, but I've decided to take a break from new classes for a bit and try to finish off/start a few of the archived ones I've bought! (Unless Shimelle announces another one, of course!)
