When I first started scrapbooking I did a lot of stitching on my pages. Then I started trying out other things - misting and painting - but I always come back to sewing in the end. This week I've been trying out a paper applique effect:
I haven't actually stitched the paper on, I just sewed very close to the edge and it's a look I like. It does take a bit of time but I'd definitely love to do some more. I have an idea forming for a page without photos, using only appliqued paper and leaving plenty of space for journaling. And with Shimelle's journaling class coming up, room for the writing is going to be essential in the next couple of weeks, yes?
Today I'm Loving...a tip someone passed on recently. If you are using canvas bags for your groceries these days - remember to give them a good hot machine wash regularly. It stops germs from lurking.

Well, thankyou very much for that little grocery bag tip :-)
I'm loving the vibrancy of this page today - quite a contrast to my most recent offering. I have joined the new Shimelle class... we'll have to sharpen the pencils I'd say!
love the colours too, amy has gr8 taste. looking forward to starting more shimelle fun and games in a couple of weeks, always depending on whether we're in the hospital or not of course.
Love Jo xxxx
How funny is that, i just washed my bags this morning!!
Beautiful layout, fab stitching.
Gorgeous page - and a lovely hand-stitched effect - really looking forward to seeing the paper appliqué page.
Can't wait for that new class to start!
The applique is great, wouldn't have thought to do applique on paper but the effect is fab.
it might be time-consuming but the result is always worth the effort in the end. really like the colours here too.
Your stitches are so beautiful and perfect, Sian. And I absolutely LOVE the colors on this page! And of course, that adorable bunting...
Pretty stitching and pretty layout!
Great page - I love the colors & all the little extras. The stitching adds such a nice touch.
Love the page....beautiful colours...and the applique is such a good idea.
Darling layout, Sian. I use reusable grocery bags too; and usually remember to wash and air dry them every couple of months when grocery day happens to coincide with laundry day (not the usual schedule).
Love the layout, Sian, and the stitching is subtle but perfect.
What a fab layout, love that applique look. Years ago when my son was little we used to get him an activity magazine for pre schoolers. It had amazing applique pictures inside using mostly newspaper and brown paper. I can't remember the name of it but it was fab too. Your LO reminds me of that...but without the newspaper and brown paper.
Lovely stitching Sian, and really like your thank-you to your DD - and all those lovely bits tumbling down the page vertically from the little bow. Great idea to do it on the card or paper, and then stick it down - any time I tried it, it pulled the card too tight and made a curved surface - good tip!
That stitching is very effective - lovely! I like the layered clouds and how you split your title letters over two lines. The colours are so bright and eye-catching too.
I started sewing on layouts last year, but somehow I havent done any for a while.. time to find the needle and thread again I think.
Fabby technique, and a fabby layout altogether :-) Can't wait to see your pages with plenty of journaling, as I know they'll be superb too! xx
Great idea - it looks fab on the layout,I'm not good at sewing and don't have a lot of patience for it and I'm envious of people who have lovely stitching on their pages. Thanks for the tip about the canvas bag :-)x
Beautiful layout, wish i could sew as neatly as you. thanks for the tip
The first thing I noticed was the little row of heart flags, but what I really love is the pattern on the paper and how the shape is repeated in the tree scene and the clouds. Such lovely design!

Very cute layout!
Pretty! Great job on the stitching!
As always, so much to look at in your layout. I love the paper applique technique you've used. When my kids were little, I made lots of their clothes and used applique a lot. I may have to dig out some of those for the new grandbabies when they arrive. I'm not anywhere near that successful with embellishments on my pages. Have to say I struggle there! But I spend a lot of time here looking at yours for inspiration.
I love the little hearts on the banner! gorgeous LO Sian
such a great layout, and your stitching is amazing.
Another stunning layout Sian, I love this idea! :)
