The Daily Doily

I don't know when I last enjoyed a spur-of-the-moment project as much as the one I'd love to show you today!

It started at the weekend when I was looking for something to replace the All About Me shaped hole on my desk (thanks again Mel. It was great) and into my blog reader popped another wonderful post from Christine Middlecamp. Her scrapbooking blog was one of the first I ever found; and I'm still captivated by her compelling, honestly told lifestory and her stunning scrapbooking style. Over the past couple of weeks she has been running a series of tutorials on The Embellished Paper Doily : what a wonderful way of getting a little bit of the Christine look.

So, I took my little packet of Martha Stewart doilies (they came in a kit)

and I started to play along with this:

A tutorial is such a great way to try something new - buttons and bling together, for example, is something I would never have tried without a gentle push - and to see how tchniques take effect. I'm really starting to love the extra dimension the black framing gives on these. A new set of instructions went up today and I can't wait to get started..

Sian! I LOVE these! Wow. I know what you mean about the hole on your desk since the All About Me project has passed. I've been aimlessly wondering what to do next.

Your embellishments with the doilies are fabulous! I love the buttons and the inking you have done. Can't wait to see what you'll use these on in the future. xo

These are gorgeous! I shall have to chcek her out. I'm also wondering what to scrap next, but as I have both Week In The Life and Something From {Almost} Nothing to finish, I guess it should be those!

when i think of doilies, i think old-fashion and granny-ish but yours are mod and so stylish! i can see how that would be a fun project.

Interesting! I might try out some of her idea; though I think I'm more inclined to do them on plaster than a doily.

I've long been a fan of Christine Middlecamp's scrap style. It's amazingly detailed and I'm just waiting for my doilies to arrive so that I can do something similar.

Your versions of the doilies are amazing close - I'm surprised that you could find such great substitutes! x

Ooh, what fun little bits & pieces! They sort-of need to be displayed all together really.. maybe on a canvas at the top of the stairs?

Oh these are so beautiful Sian!
Do you know of Nic Howard? She's a scrapper from NZ and has had a class recently at BPS, her style is also very layered and detailed and I imagine you'd quite like her stuff as well. Oh, she has a blog too - not sure of the name but google her and you'd find her easily enough.
