Something From Almost Nothing..So Far

A quick catch up today on the pages I've made for Shimelle's Something For Almost Nothing class. I've been doing 6x12 and I've got to say that I love it! There is something very satisfying about cutting a piece of cardstock in two and saving half for later; and something very enticing about that smaller page sitting on my desk waiting to be filled in half the time. I think I'm converted. Almost. I haven't even thought about buying an album yet. And I don't think that matters one bit. I've been thinking about sewing some 12x12 page protectors in half and putting them in my big album. We'll see. There's no need to make my mind up just yet.

So, here we go:

And patterned paper scraps next. My sewing machine decided to stop sewing on paper half way through this one; so I had to fake most of the stitching by poking holes and drawing on stitches with a brown pen. I've blurred out the photo because asking you to look at me in a bikini is completely unnecessary. The Accountant was happy enough to take a photo, though, and that's a good enough reason to celebrate life, don't you think?

Then ribbon. I'm trying to use up photos as well as supplies, so this is one from a pile of duplicates in a school collection.

And cardstock. I loved SJ's tone on tone idea and I gave it a go with this old photo. It's not a good picture I know, but it's the only one we have of the day so I've been holding on to it anyway. I did love that hat! The rest of the journaling is on the back so it wouldn't intrude.

And that's my album so far.

Love all these layouts, Sian! The soft colors are gorgeous and I love the stitching. Also love the zig-zaggy pieces of newsprint?

6x12 is a great size! I used it for my JYC album and loved it.

Oh, Sian, I love your layouts! Very well done!!! I think my favorite is the tone-on-tone you did - LOVE the stitching too.

I need to get my sewing machine out and do some stitching myself! I don't have a place to keep my machine set up all the time (it lands on our kitchen table) so I'm less likely to use it. You have inspired me! :o)

Excellent layouts Sian! And I have to say that if you are comfortable wearing a bikini (kudos to you!) I'd be happy to actually see you in it and tell you that you look simply mahvelous darling and be totally jealous since I haven't worn a bikini since I was, um, 13?

Nice layouts. I tried 6 x 12 too for a BPS class last year and really enjoyed the change of pace. But not enough to switch from mainly 12 x 12. But thanks for the inspiration to try it again.

Your colour scheme is fab, and the final page, tone-on-tone, is totally gorgeous! I'll be giving that a go myself, sooner or later.

Gorgeous pages Sian...especially the tone on tone one...love it!! The 6"x12" format is looking good & I love the idea of stitching a
12"x12" page protector to accomodate them...I may just have to steal that one!

I like your pages. I have enjoyed the 6x12 pages that I have done. It's a fun size. Definitely, your husband wanting to take a photo of you in a bikini is something to celebrate!

I must agree with everyone else, that these are lovely pages. I like the way you've used that little birdie on each page (though I see it's missing from the tone-on-tone, but maybe you don't have a white or pale blue one).
The machine stitching is smart and I also love the tone-on-tone page. It really suits that photo.
The Small One looks lovely in her ballet kit and you looked very happy and relaxed, swimming in the sea.
A real success so far - and it's all using up stash too - bonus!

Gosh Sian, it's looking beautiful. I particularly love the one with the pleated ribbon. It's simple but perfect!

Definitely so far so good Sian. I love the pleated ribbon and the tone one tone looks gorgeous. I like to scrap in a different size sometimes and used 6x12 for Shimelle's scrap your day project and have recently used 8.5x11 for another project. I think part of the fun of using these different sizes is making your own album I suppose it just depends on if you want to protect your pages and also you have to consider where your holes will be for binding or book rings.
Looking forward to seeing the rest of the project.

Such wonderful LOs, Sian! I always love what you put together. And we have very similar taste in product, so it's always fun for me to see what you do with my favorites lines and manufacturers. Thanks for sharing! Can't wait to see more!

Loving your pages Sian and am wondering where you got your Baker's Twine? I've been hankering after some stripey string for ... oo ... ages!

I'm beginning to wish I'd signed up for this class too. Have been seeing loads of lovely layouts from it about.

Well check you out. You are very busy indeed. I wish I had more time to scrap. Maybe trying the 6x12 format may work!!
The waether here has been bright and spring like of late so that is were all my light is coming from. But rain is forcast for the weekend, so Mrs Camera will be in bed, I think.
Have a lovely weekend Sian.

Cute pages, I especially love the one with the 'pop out' hearts.

I just love your pages Sian, 6 x 12 rocks, I am well into them at the moment. American Crafts sell some great 6 x 12 page protectors but I am wondering if you could put two pages together in a normal 12 x 12 or you could sew one in half but that always go pear shaped for me when I try to do it!!!

humel said...

I'm late to this party but I love your layouts too!! I had the same idea about sewing down the middle of a 12x12 page protector; I also wondered about just sticking two layouts of this size side by side on a spare sheet of 12x12? I often just mount my pages straight into an album though (especially for a themed album like this) so I guess it doesn't matter about not having the right size page protectors then!

I'll stop wittering now.... Great pages x

Gorgeous pages. All of them! Love the soft colours too.

I love all of these. I've only done one 6X12 album and I agree, it was a very satisfying experience. I almost never think to do it on a regular basis though. It's so perfect for one photo.

Lovely LOs Sian and a great size too. Well done!

I love the clean look of your pages. I like that even though you've used minimal supplies, there's plenty of texture to them. Thanks for sharing.
