A Sunday Doll

Last night I was watching "Coco Before Chanel" (and enjoying it very much) when a scene in an orphanage with schoolgirls dressed in beautifully tucked Victorian dresses suddenly reminded me of a little doll I made many years ago. I thought I would introduce you to her today because she really is a Sunday Doll: only to be taken out and played with on Sundays or Special Days. Her box started out as a gift pack for bubble bath; but it was much to nice to stay as that, so I trimmed the inside with fabric and lace and gave it to Imogen to live in. Her clothes were made with the help of "Making and Dessing Dollshouse Dolls" by Venus Dodge..an old favourite of mine.

I used another pattern from the same book to inspire me when I was making the little Alice dress for this layout (for a Copy and Paste project). And now I'm thinking I should make another one: I think Imogen deserves an Alice dress of her very own. After all, she already has the petticoats. Where's the blue felt?
Have a good Sunday!

What a dear little dolly! I definitely think she deserves an "Alice" dress too. I have a wonderful old book about making toys, including dolls. It's called "Toys for Your Delight". Can't remember the author and it's packed in a box at the moment, til we finish our reorganising. It has patterns for every type of fabric toy, from a ball, to zoo / circus animals made from felt and card, to dolls and their clothes. All her toys are wonderfully embellished with lovely embroidery. In fact, I use it as a source-book for embroidery stitches too, as there are so many there. When I find it again, I may use it for a project and a blog post or two...

Thanks for mentioning my Sock Monkeys again. They are fun. Maybe I should do a Cat or Rabbit tutorial too - those are so easy and so sweet.

awh i love this story. i haqve a number of old dolls from my mum with national costumes on and some old teddies. one of my favourite dollies is one which was made over 60 years ago as it belonged to my godmother. when you hold her hand she walks with you. i once saw her in an antique book and think she was a 1920s inspired doll. she needs some TLC as her hair has seen better days I'm afraid.

What a gorgeous doll, what an heirloom to hold onto. So sweet! Re your message on my blog, cruising is high on HIS list, and it's on the table for consideration, if I email you could you give me some cruising advice?!

I definitely think that Imogen should have a new dress but don't forget to show us her in it when you're done although she looks very smart in her current outfit.

She's gorgeous!
What a fabulous layout - I love how you layer your elements Sian, it's funny how I'm drawn to what I find so difficult - your pages are so textural and interesting. Thanks for sharing!

I love your doll, so well cared for, and your layout is amazing! I'm like Amy, so drawn to these beautiful layered layouts that I never seem to be able to pull off. I try and end up taking it all apart!

Hi Sian,
Back for a second look! The first time I focused on the clothes; this time, on the layout (which is really fabulous)! What a post chock-full of loveliness.
