Sodastreams were popular. I know that; though we didn't own one and neither did my in-laws, apparently. I think maybe our Dads were holding on to their old soda siphons instead - battered relics of bachelordom and a nod towards dreams of becoming James Bond. But I'm losing my focus. The point is The Accountant wanted one and now he has one. I know he was pleased because he slipped away quietly and reappeared wearing his Austin Powers shirt (see below for further details). With the help of the small One (who heard the words "gas" and "cylinder" and volunteered immediately), he carefully unpacked the box and stepped back to admire.
Things got a bit sticky shortly after that. I was forced to admit that I hadn't been able to, um, buy the flavouring concentrates anywhere. Sparkling soda we could do. Flavoured sparkling soda was more of a problem. The Small One ducked into the larder to see what she could find...chocolate Crusha? or how about Cream Of Chicken? She offered brightly, brandishing a can of Campbells. We settled on Lime Cordial. And it worked. I think I'll keep looking for the official flavours though. Then we'll be Groovy, Baby.
Today I'm Loving..these wine bottle holders from simply Handmade. A stylish way to bring a bottle to a New Years party?

Hm...this is new to me. I've never heard of this, but it sounds like a fun thing to have.
Love the Austin Powers shirt reference! :o) lol
Soda Stream! They still make these?? Fab :) Soda Stream cola and cream soda were the best flavours :)
Ah, I remember getting wistful about these when I was a kid. My friend had one and they used to make themselves a fizzy drink "whenever we like" (which was probably an exaggeration, given the cost of the gas canisters and flavouring concentrates!). I didn't actually like the drinks very much, but that wasn't the point really... it was cool to have one! And fizzy of any sort was a huge treat for us anyway.
My mother very sensibly refused to buy one - but I did feel it wasn't fair!!
I saw something about them being back in fashion, just the other day.
You could just use good quality squash or cordials. I'm sure they would taste good enough. And I thought I saw a Cream Soda flavouring syrup somewhere the other day... hmmm.
This makes me think about Jerry and Margot in 'The Good Life'! Oh no, showing my age now!
Good luck with finding new flavourings - hey, you could do with some of my sloe gin, bet that would be nice fizzed up with soda water. What do you think?
Love the shirt! Am a bit confused about the soda stream . . .

Deb..DH says "Now you're talking" sloe gin sounds perfect!
Lizzie..what you describe is our experience exactly..our friends had them and it didn't taste that great but just as you say that wasn't the point!
Rinda..I've added a wiki link to explain
Yes! Jerry and Margot for sure!!!!
I come from the same situation as Lizzie - always wistfully thought they were cool, good luck finding the syrup.
Awe! What fun! We used to have one of these as a kid - I loved experimenting with all of the different syrup flavors - i miss that extra fizz you could get in the bottle! enjoy!
cool shirt!!
Oh, what a blast from the past! My parents would not spend money on one of these but a friend has one, and it most exciting to get an invite! Delighted they are still around. Shirt is great too! x alexa

This does bring back memories for me too but funnily we didn't have one either! Good luck with the flavour hunting. Amanda
Cream of chicken! LOL Thanks for the giggle!
I had a boyfriend once who was bought one of these as a graduation present - a long time ago! Great shirt :)
Oh, oh, oh, Sodastream!!! We had one. As a child I loved it - I could make a fizzy drink out of any of my favourite flavoured squashes.
Of course we did buy some of the Sodastream flavours too. My favourite was some sort of fruity thing about like Fanta Fruit Twist.
we had one and it was fab until we discovered ''the real thing'' of course!!!!! loving the accountant's shirt :) here's hoping he's feeling groovy
