Short Happens

The Tall One hasn't always been tall. Many years ago he was very small.
"This baby is very small," said the midwives.
"This baby is too small," said the doctors.
"Stop!" said the wily old Consultant. "This is a small baby. But this is one smart, small baby. Look at his mum. She's not very big at all. Where's he supposed to grow? When he gets out he'll stretch his legs."
And he was right. The Tall One is smart. And he is tall. Taller even than The Accountant. Which I'm not. Obviously. He does try to empathise, though. When he happens upon me hemming a pair of jeans or balancing on a chair (because-it's-OK-I-can-get-it-myself); he likes to pat me on the head:
"Don't worry, Mum," he says kindly. "Short Happens!"

Sian, tell the tall one "good things come in small packages" That was my moms favorite saying, she was a little 4'11' lady in a 6+ft household. Love your blog

Great style of writing and I'm looking the names you use for your loved ones. Far more creative than the DH, DS, mum and Sib I use!!

Made me smile too! As a "small one" my gran (4ft 8in) taught me that you don't find diamonds as big as bricks!
