Occupational Hazard

Do you think that you could bear a little red and green today? It's quite cheerful (such a grey day here!) and not at all Christmas-y, I promise. It's a page about last summer, when we were in Berlin

When I posted it on instagram someone was kind enough to query my spelling in the title. Believe me: if I've made a mistake I want to know about it, especially on a page I've made on request. So I double googled and I think - hope- I'm in the clear this time and haven't embarrassed Get It Scrapped.

The ampelmannchen are the little traffic light men who are seen lighting up pedestrian crossings in Berlin. They first arrived in 1961, in East Berlin, behind the iron curtain, but following the fall of the wall they achieved cult status and began appearing on souvenirs. Now they play their part in promoting tourism (with a website here): the Fair family is only one of very many every year who has browsed for gifts, wolfed down sandwiches and made use of the facilities under the distinctive red and green signage. Thanks, Ampelmann!

This page was made for a Get It Scrapped piece on using active white space. You can find it here.

There is such a cute factor in this layout & very cheerful & it prompted me to think about our own traffic walk/don't walk symbols. Our is a little opaque (white) person to walk, then usually a red hand do don't walk. I also Googled ampelmannchen to learn more about "them". Thanks, I learned something new.

I, too, learned something new today, and definitely agree with the cute factor of the layout. The black and white patterned paper is the perfect background for those cheery red and green accents!

How lovely! Not at all Christmassy - light and fresh :). The leaves and flowers propel it gently into summer. I love how you scrap little things.

I like the black and white designs, they are the perfect background for the photo and colour. Green and red go so well together.

I think you've used that heart bg pp to perfection....not easy! And the Christmas-sy colours are really nice here, too:):) I don't know about the Ampelmann, at all. We live too far away, LOL! Glad your man is coming along nicely. Wish mine would. He's crook with that pesky thumb. And thank you so much for your kind comment on my Video Attempt, LOL!!!!!!!!

oh love it! Thanks for sharing! And double checking the spelling...I'm prone to making mistakes in a title and I'm always so pleased with my family when they show up and point it out...mainly 'cause I haven't posted it yet, phew! You made me want to travel with your page. ;-)

They're part of my favourite bits of Berlin! The whole page looks wonderful ... the use of a smaller photo doesn't distract the eye from the bigger picture. Love it!

I'm a fan of apple and green at any time of the year, especially if a layout looks this good
