World Cardmaking Day

I couldn't let World Cardmaking Day slip by yesterday without reaching into my bargain card kits again to see if I could come up with anything. I started out well enough. Revved up the sewing machine, did a bit of stitching...

..and then the machine made one of those heart sink noises. You know the kind? But I stopped and I looked and I thought maybe if I just rethreaded it, everything would be alright with the world again. So I tried and I tried and I tried again; and then I called for back up and she tried and she tried and she said "I can get the thread into the eye, but it won't go through." So I fought the urge to shout BUT YOU'RE YOUNG, YOU CAN SEE WAY BETTER THAN I CAN. JUST DO IT! and we fetched the last resort back up, because he has better eyesight than the rest of us put together, and he said "You've been stitching through glue again, haven't you? This eye is completely gunged up."

Oh. Right. Yes.

But it's fixed now, so maybe I'll get another couple of thank you cards made today.

Cards? Cards? There's still time to enter the ARBEE CARDS GIVEAWAY HERE...

Beautiful cards, I can never be bothered to get the machine out - maybe I should!

Since beginning the Friendship Quilt project (and taking up dressmaking again) I haven't used my machine for paper crafting, for fear of a heart sinking moment like this. Although my machine must be thinking it's been abandoned right now. Lovely, lovely cards.

What lovely cards and well worth having the whole family check out your machine lol. I tend to use a different needle for sewing on paper to fabric. I think it comes from the whole never use your fabric scissors on paper bit. Not sure if it makes that much difference though regarding a needle

I really should dust off my sewing machine ...

Two lovely cards, Sian. I like the second one best (but it's a hard choice!).
Your poor machine... But I am glad the solution was simple (and cheap!).

I took my supplies out on the back patio yesterday & made cards for several hours . . . and I used paper doilies, too!! How FUN!

Love the cards....my machine seems to have an aversion to glue as well.

At least it wasn't a costly repair job! I think we can all imagine exactly what that noise sounded like, followed by that 'uh oh' moment.

What lovely cards Sian, I am drawn to orange at the moment.
I love sewing on my cards too and had a drama with my machine recently. A local specialist told me it was irreparable as the replacement part is no long available. I was told a like for like machine would cost about £800 so my friends husband offered to look at it. He blew some dust from an electric sensor and it works perfectly. I'm so glad I didn't listen to the 'expert' and write my machine off. And I'll remember if I have trouble threading my needle to check for glue!

Yeah. Well. I have a story about that too. I actually somehow glued up the INNERS of mine. See, I'm the impatient one who never waits for the glue to dry before stitching. So my machine REFUSES to now do anything but straight stitch - & that's a dodgy one too. So I'm resorting to zigzag STAMPS. The machine was bought by Mum for my engagement FIRST time around [last century] & she saved up the egg money [she sold eggs to make a little extra] to buy it. Took her over 12 months. Even if it didn't work at all, it's a keeper;) BTW....loooove the orange doily & your using tag idea is sweet as!!!

Gorgeous cards! I just love the paper on the first one---and all the stitching of course! Be careful; you're lucky it was only the needle that got gunked up!

Of course you are stitching through glue! ;-) I might be giggling a little, but I have one that would have said the same thing....and you'll stich through glue again too! Love it! happy card making day just a wee bit late!

Lovely cards - I like that first with the stamped words.

We spent Saturday afternoon reorganising the office in the hope that having a space for my sewing machine will mean it actually gets used. I'll try to remember not to stitch through glue ;)

Great cards. I love the look of stitching on my layouts, but can never be bothered to get the machine out of the cupboard under the stairs and set it all up!

You've made a lovely job of those ... and I am glad it was just a needle problem. I had to smile about the eyesight comment - you are way too young!

Two really great looking cards. I especially like the second one but then blue is my favourite colour. :) Glad your machine is working now, mine is out of commission till I get a new needle - snapped the one that was in it right off. Ugh!
