Words. Pictures. Either. Both.

I tell my stories with words. Most of the time. I pick up a pen and start to scribble and something like this appears:

Sometimes a whole story appears, sometimes it's just a snatch. But it's down on paper and that's good. That what Storytelling Sunday is about. recording a moment, keeping it for family and friends, for the future; and sharing it with us too.

BUT there is more than one way to hold that thought. This year the Storytelling Sunday emphasis will be on telling your story the way you love best. If you love to write, please keep on writing. But if you love to take pictures - if that's your best way of telling your story - show us a picture. One photo, a few words. That's a powerful way to tell your story too. I think we need both.

So if you have been thinking about joining in - make it your New Year Resolution! Lots of us will have plans for the 1st January, but remember - any story you tell on the first day of the year will have a special resonance. The link will be open all week, so maybe you'd like to tell the story of your New Year celebrations after the event. Or the story of anything "new". To start us off I'll have a persuasive post from a writer I know (you are starting to get to know him too..) - then it's over to you for

Storytelling Sunday 2: The words, the pictures.

I write:

Maybe you take pictures. Think about it.

Looking forward to your story telling Sundays. I might try to join in occasionally this year.

Both stories are fantastic and we've had the whole santa down the chimney over the years too.

Happy New Year Sian x

Love the stories and I had a great Christmas thank you with lots of laughs. We have a magic key which solves that problem. Got it at a garden centre and used to hang that up on Christmas Eve. Happy New Year x

I'm so pleased that you are continuing with Storytelling Sunday and the new format sounds great. I saw a Santa key in the local card shop before Christmas, it was for those people who don't have a fireplace - a magic key that only Santa could make work!

now that's got me thinking - storytelling sunday with a photo and a few words - thanks for the prompt

Oh I was going to suggest the Santa key also. And I'm looking forward to Sundays in 2012. I'm going to try and make every one of your storytelling days - I know I have lots more than 12 stories in me. I am undaunted by your suggestion to make the first one more momentous than the others. I'm just going to tell them in the order they come to me - when they've rattled around up there a few days, I'll put them down to get them out of my head. I will do pictures and words - I never realized how much I liked writing until I started to blog. Thanks for spurring me on, Sian. Happy New Year!

As a latecomer to Storytelling Sunday, I am so pleased you are going to continue in 2012 and with a new twist! Sometimes a photograph does speak a thousand words...
Such a great post, Sian. Little E sounds quite a character. I hope Santa was able to provide what Little e wished for and found a suitable way into the house with his red suit intact.

Little E has a good point! We have a Magic Santa Key for the front door, since we don't have a fireplace

Aren't kids funny. DD is more concerned by the fact that we have a gas fire across our fireplace so Santa will get stuck and of course Daddy doesn't even have a chimney!
We now leave a special Santa key tied outside the door.

Two lovely Christmassy tales, Sian! I do like to read your stories - the long ones and the short.
I'm a Words Person too, so I think my contributions will probably continue to be full of waffle... but maybe I'll try an all-pictures story some time - that would be a fun challenge for me!
Happy New Year, Sian, to you and your family.
So pleased you decided to keep on with Storytelling Sundays in 2012 - it will be something lovely to look forward to throughout the year!

Love these Christmas stories. So very sweet. Interesting twist on Story Telling Sunday for this year. We didn't have a fireplace in our house when the girls were little. They worried that Santa would not be able to get in to drop off gifts. I told them that Santa had a magic key that opened all doors. ;) It worked. :)

So glad you're continuing with Storytelling Sunday. I've got something cooked up for Sunday, but I may add to it now that I read your post today.

you have me thinking about the different ways we tell our stories. but the most important thing is that they are told, shared, and put out there. i can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.

I love both stories - they have a proper Christmas tingle about them. Looking forward to storytelling of 2012. I might have a go at a photo story at some point. Resolution methinks.

I have a story in mind. I have a list beside the computer and when I am reminded of a story I write myself a note At the moment there are four stories listed but I will be going through some old old scrapbooks and reminding myself of some of the special moments. I might even have pictures.

Ooh, I think a scrapbook page fits the criteria:) will have to get back into blogging mode though.

I love the photo idea! Writing does not come easily for me, but a picture is worth a thousand words. That I could do.

glad you are continuing Storytelling Sunday and have some ideas for Sunday - need to sit down tomorrow to formulate them. Photos almost always get paired with my stories - it is how I love to create.

Thanks for the inspiration. :^)

Lovely Christmas stories, Sian. And I can understand Little E's concern about Santa coming down the chimney.
It goes against all logic and what we try and teach children! Glad you are carrying on with Storytelling Sunday. I know I don't often write one but I enjoy reading. Maybe I'll share some photos this time round.

Lovely stories Sian, you always tell them so well. How clever of your brother! A picture and a few words will be much easier for me. I always struggle with getting the story out there!

Can't wait to see how people tell their stories this year! I have just written my post, with a couple of photos - may change how I do this over the year, but it is a start and I have got a story written down which I may not have written otherwise!

Love your story about the Christmas presents - what a wonderful surprise that was :)

Although I've never taken part, I always enjoying reading everyone's :)

Happy to hear you are continuing with Storytelling Sunday and I like this new idea Sian - I will likely find this easier:) Your stories here are fun and express the magic of Christmas. Look forward to tomorrow's post (perhaps from Uncle Dave?)

Happy New Year :)
