Not Bright In Brighton

The day we went to Brighton it rained on a biblical scale. It was so wet we could barely see our hands in front of our faces. So wet that we found on street parking astone's throw from the Pavilion on a Saturday lunchtime. and so wet that I wrapped my camera safely in its waterproof jacket and left it there.

Photo from tourist leaflet. Crown shapes cut with Slice Vintage Findings card

Tall and Small said that if I took a photo of them in their waterproof macs, they would remove themselves from the family. With immediate effect. Then they trudged off in the direction of Starbucks. Their father said; "I'm glad you aren't going to take a picture of me in a fold up raincoat, and then put it on your blog captioned The Accountant In A Pac-a-mac. It doesn't make me sound very exciting."

I took a last look at the Pavilion. It was darker than I imagined. And definitely wetter. I thought about stopping in the gift shop for a stick of seaside rock, because there has to be a good joke in there somewhere. But Starbucks was starting to call me too, so I left it.

We won't forget our visit, though. The day we were there, they turned the bright off in Brighton.

Psst..other Sky High news : You may still place a comment for July's Pass The Book here. And it's  Storytelling Sunday this Sunday.

You can never guarantee the weather in Britain eh?! Rest assured that if the sun had been shining there is no way you would have been able to find a parking space within 2 miles of the centre! It's such a lovely place, you will have to return again and hope for warmer weather - just so we can see The Accountant in all his 'exciting' holiday ensemble ;-)

I have rainy memories of Brighton when I was about same age as Small One. No Starbucks then - I remember us all (aunts, cousins and grandparents and us) sitting in a shelter along the sea front playing i-spy

so i'm confused, it was raining, you wanted to see the royal pavilion but you went to starbucks? wouldn't it have been an idea to go inside the pavilion, it's very lovely you know.
i have loads of pac-a-mac/kagoul pictures from childhood so the tall and small ones got off lightly i have to say.
this is defo a stoy worth telling though,

Love the paint splashes and what genius to use a photo from a brochure to illustrate your page.

Love how you've splattered the paint....so apt.
The Pavilion is beautiful....I do hope you did go inside.
And it's pac-a-mac weather here today!!!

Love the page and the well-told story. Everyone's take on what you might have done with the camera is just too funny.

Great idea to use the brochure photo - I laughed reading the family's "threats"!

I wrote my story last night for Sunday - one I've been wanting to record for years but a little bit of a difficult story to tell. It might be a little bit too long and I might pull together a layout later today, but either way I'm ready! :>)

Love the family's comments, I can imagine the faces that went with them. glad they (actually all of you) had a Starbuck's nearby. The splatter is perfect for a rainy story. Thanks for the comment on my dad, all is well :)

Way to go for making the best of a rainy day and then brightening the whole thing up with that crisp white background!

Not sure I can remember seeing paint or ink droplets on your pages before, but I do love the effect here and the cut outs swirling around the photo are beautiful! Your Slice is sure enticing me to think about purchasing my own.

Clever penultimate paragraph! You mean accountants DON'T all wear pacamacs? Pretty colours (and lots of white space :)), and love your stitching round the edge.

Lovely page - really like the cut out elements and the stitching.

The one and only time I was in Brighton was back in 1986 and I had a ball - out partying all night and then ran out of time to go and see the Poly which was the main reason for going - ah, to be young again! I love the way you have made a great page even out of this wet experience!

Loving the colourfull splodges and the textured card.

We used to go to Brighton alot when we were young. Can't remember it raining though. We did alot of walking along the seven sisters too.

Oh dear, the fine sensitivities of those who reside with you High In The Sky ... those years are ahead of me, I await with trepidation!

You shold have driven a little further into Southampton... Victoria country park with a sweet little tearoom and haunted museum, Netley Abbey (haunted!) and pebble beach at Weston shore...
Course, it would have still rained... *lol*

We've spent many a day in Brighton - one of my favourite seaside places, although last time we were there the bin men were on strike and it was very smelly and dirty!

Had to smile at the rain macs and i'm glad i'm not the only one who gets referenced to the blog every time we go out!!

Fantastic layout Sian xx

What a shame. It may not have been bright and sunny but your layout sure is. I love the white space and your splashy splodges.

Loving the paint speckles! Sorry your day in brighton was so rainy, though I'd have liked to see all the family in their macs! x

I love the paint splashes, Sian. Beautiful colours. Love the play on words too.... shame about the weather.

Wonderful!!! Lovely page!

Lovely story and a beautiful page. I guess rain in Brighton is not unusual. The photos from rain in Grand Cayman are waiting to be scrapped. It absolutely belted it down and I have photos of the family in plastic bags (Calling them macs would contravene the trades description act). Must admit I quite enjoyed warm rain and it did brighten up later.

Excuse me? Accountants aren't exciting? No one's ever told me, they're always happy to let me do the accounts... We've had those sorts of days, our last one was trudging around Boston and there too Starbucks called strongly :)

Beautiful, beautiful layout. You just get better and better x
