Hey, Monday! Were you expecting me? It's become a bit of a tradition, hasn't it? You and I, hanging here at the start of the week, hoping we'll get a cheery wave from anyone else who feels like "doing a Monday". "Mondayers" I believe you suggested we call them. Oh, Monday: remember how we first got to know each other with "Me On Monday", as I forced myself to take more selfies and then wrote about my weekend so that there would be words to go with the pictures. Then, the year after that, we added to the diary idea and you got to hear about what was new, or what I had learned for the first time; and we both learned some very useful nuggets from the other Mondayers.

So, Monday, will we talk about this year? You know we put our heads together to come up with another twist: something else Mondayers could write about, not a rule, but another source of inspiration. The card I posted last week was a clue. The plan came to me over the holidays, as I enjoyed the arrival of cards from friends, and of interesting catalogues, of gifts I'd ordered: the mail, in other words. What, I thought, if we wrote about our favourite piece of post from the previous week?
Weave it into your weekend story, definitely, (I like reading about the weekend); but if, like me, you need an extra something to pep up your post every so often, keep an eye on what's coming through your door or into your mailbox. It might be a card from an old friend, or a new one; maybe simply a catalogue with a photo of a challenging colour combination you want to pin to a noticeboard and think about; or something special you'd been saving up to order; or even a charity mailshot that you can't bring yourself to throw away.
Maybe you'll be inspired to send more mail, who knows? When I first started blogging I was surprised and delighted by the number of cards and little packets which I discovered were flying round our community. I'd like to think that if we keep the mail gong, the writing will follow.
....for my copy of Julie Kirk's Snipped Tales, which arrived here last month. |
It can be anything at all, though - honestly: anything. Hospital appointment? We'll wish you luck. Birthday card? We'll help you blow out your candles. And all the while, as you stalk your postman, you are very welcome to keep on trying new things, finding firsts, writing about your weekend. It's the writing that counts. Make a memo, or post about....post. And then, give us a wave. That's about it, Monday, isn't it?
We hope you have a good week, Monday and I: I'll keep picking up the links (so let me know below so I can keep an eye out for you!) and with some luck, we'll keep on waving and wishing you all the very best. Until next time!

Another inspired idea! And perhaps before the day is out, I'll have a post up. Not much mail to show for another couple of weeks since I'm not at home, but I do have a package coming here that I can share next week, hopefully with some interesting news about a Christmas gift I received. Your new twist did give me an idea for today. I get a daily email from The Week which I enjoy very much, but haven't seen a hard copy of the publication.
I really like the twist you've added. I'm a big fan of magazines - actual physical magazines that I can thumb through and pour over and mark up, and I'm always tearing out articles and photos and to save.
a nice new layer - feels a bit retro looking to post as a nice antidote to all the digital. Have a great week
Interesting new spin on Monday. I am not sure how it will play out for me about the mail as we go several days without receiving any post (we also go days without the phone ringing). Happy week ahead & I hope that Uncle Dave has a new sweater tucked into his luggage :)
great idea Sian!
This is an easy one for me as I have been blessed with lovely mail the past week!
xx
Nice idea! This week is a particularly good one for me to look out for happy mail (*coughs - impending birthday*).
Are you planning a #Mondayers hashtag (or something like that)? I might just join you on Instagram (rather than on my blog) if you are.
And thanks so so much for sharing your post from me! It's still surreal to hear about it landing on other peoples' doormats!
Happy Monday to you! xx
That's a lovely idea, Sian :). I think it has lots of possibilities too .. well, I'll be joining in. Though I realise I will now have to stop and flick through some of the bumph in case it has Monday potential rather than tear off any identifying details and dump it straight in the bin!
You always have such great ideas. Looking forward to your Monday posts throughout the year.
Lovely idea Sian! I will join in when I can, maybe not always on a Monday...
Can a bit of cyber post work too, I wonder. After all, I have been working hard to keep mail that has to be recycled to a minimum.
Great new twist to the Me on Monday. Don't faint but today I finally got back on the blogging horse - hopefully I can manage to blog twice a week and then build up a bit from there.
Have a great week!!
Rock star! I did the post right and didn't even know it! Whhooohhooo happy dance!!!!
Seriously Sian, how do you do it! That amazing amazing creative and inspirational mind. Happy new year my friend, may 2017 be a happy one for you xxxx
Thanks to Karen (Random Reflections) I was directed here (to this post)...what a nifty idea, so full of possibilities. I look forward to joining in from Washington DC...for sure next Monday...and I even have a super candidate.
Cheers~
Great idea Sian!! I'm getting a post up today - a little late this week, but hopefully joining in on Mondays after this . . . if there's anything interesting in the mail! :)
This is a lovely idea even though I have a fear of post arriving! :)
I'm liking the new twist. Will be on the lookout for something interesting in the mail to share next week.
Oh yes, I like this new twist! Looking forward to joining in.
What a good idea! Happy Mail of any kind is worth celebrating!
This sounds like fun. Saw it on Melissa's blog. Hoping I can participate now and then. We don't get too much that's exciting besides bills (those are NOT exciting AT ALL) and advertisements. But once in awhile we receive a package, something ordered to make us smile. So I could do that! What a great idea you came up with!!
Sounds a brilliant idea! Must pop it into my bullet journal [yes! I've a new obsession!] & try to join in. Now I'm not on DTs etc and doing stuff for me;)!!!
